Mountain
Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139). Low 100's, overcast and calm. POP was under 3.5H twilight. Nice Fazio layout that is very spread out. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over Desertscape. The course plays shorter than the listed yardage because of the elevation and the firmness IMO.
Tees level with most divots repaired. Not sure what has happened, but they are now thin with many bare spots.
Fairways mostly lush with some thin spots and generally nice to play from.
Bermuda rough mostly green and decent to play from, not maintained high.
Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm.
Large Bermuda greens rolling nicely. Smooth, medium fast and firm.
Customer service good on all levels. Bottled water usually provided. No Drink cart late day. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Greens and Sand excellent, the rest of the course conditions are mediocre. Still recommended.
OVERRATED
About 4-6 good holes, rest of the course was average. Greens were in great condition. Tee boxes were so-so. Fairways were worse than most $15 muni courses. Don't believe the hype about this course. So many better options available at lower prices.
Beautiful Course!
Loved the course! Don't understand their 2 per golf cart rule!
How to waste a great course with a deplorable staff
Such a shame to waste a nice course with such a deplorable staff. Unfriendly, no ranger to monitor pace of play, truly ruined my afternoon of golf.
Remember who is the customer and that is OUR time to relax. If you don’t like the job, go ruin the day of others, not customers that are trying to enjoy their precious 4 hrs on the course.
Ventana Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) mid morning in 3H, 15M. Low 100's, muggy and overcast with little wind made you wish there was a little breeze! Course conditions are deteriorating as they lead up to summer maintenance and the Front 9 being closed for sprinkler renovation.
Tees level but were just aerated.
Fairways mostly lush and decent to play from.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally okay to play from. Not much different from the fairway within 10 yards of the fairway.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens roll really nice. Smooth, firm and medium speed.
Excellent grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Customer service usually @ least 4/5 star if not 5/5 star here. Saw the Drink cart once and bottled water provided. Nice restaurant onsite with excellent breakfast specials. Recommended.
Course in rough shape
Its summer. In Tucson. The things that make it great to play golf this time of year also make it difficult. The courses are usually in pretty rough shape. Ventana is no exception lotta bare spots on the fairways and greens that are not in good shape. Probably mostly weather related. Little pricey for around in mediocre conditions in a $20 ham sandwich definitely overpriced
Good, not great
Best greens in Tucson. Not a particularly exciting layout. You will spend 30 minutes during your round just driving between holes. $75 summer rate is a bit exorbitant.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in less than 3.5H. Low 100's, clear and breezy.
Tees level but several had been recently vericut. Played better than they looked.
Fairways mostly lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally okay to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens rolled nice again. Smooth, firm and medium speed.
Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Customer service excellent from all encountered. No drink cart weekdays during the summer, but bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Recommended.
Mountain
Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139). Around 100, clear and calm. POP was around 4H twilight. Played with a super nice father and adult son from Houston. My type of guys. They drove 14 hours for a 4 day all inclusive golf deal, parked the car, checked into their room and were out playing twilight golf!
Tees level/lush with most divots repaired.
Fairways lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough mostly green and decent to play from, not maintained high.
Sand traps very good. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm.
Large Bermuda greens still showing the effects of punching. Medium speed and bumpier than usual, still very firm.
Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. No Drink cart late day. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Nice Fazio layout that is very spread out. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over Desertscape. The course plays shorter than the listed yardage because of the elevation and the firmness IMO. Recommended.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in less than 3.5H. Low 90's, hazy and fairly calm.
Tees level, mostly lush and nice to play from with most divots properly repaired.
Fairways mostly lush and nice to play from.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally good to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens mostly recovered from aerification. Just okay and medium speed.
Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Varied Fazio layout, tight but still fun to play. Several risk reward par 4's that are tight. Numerous elevated tee shots, constantly up/down rolling hills. Recommended.
Love the Canyon
Of the 2 courses at Ventana, I have always preferred the Canyon. Mountain is also great but Canyon is all right in front of you with no drama. Maybe it's a little easier too. Anyway, who doesn't like posting lower scores?
This time of year its easy to get around in about 3 hours as a twosome which is a big plus.
Excellent course and staff, well worth the drive
Great course and staff. Felt like we had course to ourselves. Very friendly staff, Brandon and Ronnel made us want to play again on our next visit. Pace of play was awesome and both courses were challenging. We enjoyed Canyon course the best.
Overall Excellent Play
Was arguably the nicest course I played on my Tucson trip. With the exception of the third hole, this really isn't a mountain course, despite the name. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the overall layout of this track. Conditions were excellent from tee to green and the greens ran fairly fast and gave me fits trying to read. Fairways tend to be narrower and course is lined with much more vegetation then the overall desert setting. Forced carries and water come into play on some holes.
Overall a great track and definitely a must play if in the Tucson area.
Canyon
Rode the Greens (6537/70.7/135) super twilight in 3.5H. Around 90, clear and fairly calm.
Difficult layout. Tight but still fun to play. Varied with several risk reward par 4's. Numerous elevated tee shots, constantly up/down rolling hills.
Tees level, mostly lush and nice to play from with most divots properly repaired.
Fairways lush and deceptively undulating, few flat lies. You get divot spots in the collection areas.
Bermuda rough maintained low and generally good to play from.
Sand traps well maintained with good quality, light sand.
Large Bermuda greens were just punched, so they were as expected. Bumpy and medium slow.
Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided and nice restaurant onsite. Very nice grass driving range included with the golf. Carts do not have GPS. Canyon front will soon be closed to redo the sprinkler system and I could tell the course was not as well maintained as usual. Still recommended.
