About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson has never seemed willing to cower in the presence of its resort-course cousins. Paloma and Ventana are golf resorts, but the Golf Club at Vistoso is just a golf course, and a fine one at that. This Tom Weiskopf-designed layout was a "readers write-in" Golf Magazine's "Top 100 you can play," and is a "sneaky" favorite among locals and visitors alike. The layout is nowhere near as penal as Ventana or La Paloma, and if you can find better greens in the greater Tucson area, let us know. Take note of the 166-yard, par-3 third hole -- on a clear day (there are only 323 of them) you will have an amazing view of the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Great Staff
We had two foursomes that were part a a bachelor party. We spoke to the head pro in advance and went over the little events we planned. Everyone was on board except the starter. He was a pain from the get go. Eventually, the ranger took over and all was forgotten. We had the best day and my new son-in-law put one out there 326 yds in the fairway
Great place to play
This was my 3rd time on this track, a true target golf course with plenty of views and wildlife! I think this is a must play course for the Tucson area!
A very picturesque desert course
The clubhouse and dining area are very welcoming. The staff at the front desk are all very nice. The course is not easy but if you hit the ball relatively straight it makes the layout much easier. I would highly recommend playing Vistoso.
Great desert course at a great price
This course exceeded my expectations. It was in great shape and the price was very reasonable even though this was prime season. I definitely will play this one when back in Tucson.
Awesome Track!!!
We were in Tucson for a weekend golf getaway and played Vistoso Golf Club twice. We were scheduled to play other courses but cancelled after we experienced the conditions, scenery, and hospitality at Vistosa. We will definitely return to play again in the near future!!! The patio for a after round bite and cocktail was beautiful and relaxing. WELCOME BACK VISTOSO!!! Thank you for a great golf value and experience.
nice place
good deal for the price, the course is in good shape and everything is good.
Great Staff, course in good condition
All the staff was friendly and helpful. Too many at other golf courses who are not. Prices were somewhat high at the snack bar.
Near perfect day
Course was better than I expected after not being there for about 4-5 years. Conditions were superb and the greens running quick. Played the tips and was surprised that it suited my game better than the Gold tees. A bit more room and was able to carry all the waste areas. Vistoso is value for money. Only downside is many of the surrounding natural areas are being developed. Money talks.
Making a comback
I have been playing Vistoso for over 15 years. When I first played the course the conditions were unrivaled. The course, however, fell on hard times and the conditions suffered. It appears as if the course is making a comeback. The layout has always been great and now the conditions are getting back to the way they used to be. The greens were fast, true and receptive. The tee boxes were in good shape with work being done to many of them. The fairways were nice and plush but have a ways to go before they reach the conditions of years past. Keep up the great work. I will be back.
pace of play
We had a 5 hr. round, waited before every hit. This made a great course not so inviting for a return visit.
Too many tee times or golfers did not play proper tees for their handicap.
Good return visit
Course played well, though the fairways were a little thin. Greens were in good shape. I downgrade the layout because of the difficult carries off the tees for the women. Staff was friendly. Patio is a wonderful setting though we were sort of run off at 6 pm for an art class that was starting up. Got a great Golfnow hot deal making the value rating excellent. It's a good deal up to $40 to 60 / player. Pace was about 4:20 as we waited on a slower foursome ahead several times.
Pace of play and treatment
Unfortunately, our tee time was delayed 30 minutes because of a morning shot gun start that had slow play. The course was backed up and when we arrived at 18th hole the sprinkler system turned on so we were unable to finish the hole. When we arrived back at the club house, the staff were more anxious to leave to see the super bowl than concerned about us. Unfortunate, because we had taken guests there and they did not have a positive experience.
Personel problems
We had been following a group of four and waiting a little while on each tee box for them to clear the fairway or the green. Pace of play was normal until we reached the 6th tee box when this grouchy pruned face ranger told us to keep up with the group ahead of us. The group ahead of us was still in the middle of the fairway. We caught the group ahead of us on the next tee box waiting for the group ahead of them. I Asked them if Mr. Grench had warned them, and they said no. This didn't set to well with our group. Our group and our friends will not be stepping foot on this course again.
Nice greens
Course is in great shape. Greens were smooth and speedy.
Challenging Golf Course
Great layout and scenery. Most of the hole need a very good drive to go over bushes.
17 par 3 is challenging.
Nicest course I've played this trip
Pros:
Nice layout.
Very good condition.
Fast greens.
Cons:
Bunkers, put sand in them, green side bunkers with no sand!!
Pace of play, almost a 5 hr. round.
Par 5's were gimicky!
Bring your A Game, we had 20+ mph winds and this made this round quite the challenge.
I golfed with 3 locals so had the advantage of knowing where to hit for the most part.
Very nice course.
There are many great courses to play (troon). Vistoso is close to par with the troon coursrs. Better than some. Always enjoy golfing, challenging and beautiful desert course. Am an avid golfer. This course is worth a try. You will probably be back.
great place ..........go play
We always look forward to playing this course every year and do so more than once. Connect to their website as they always have specials.
Course conditions are ALWAYS excellent and ALL the staff are very good at what they do.
cold with a late tee time
very nice course, but they could use on course yardage markers. Take a GPS unit.
friendly and welcoming
A must to play in the Tucson area. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Dear VKMorgan,
You are not alone. I have played this course several times, this has occurred to me on several occasions. Last time our group was in the middle of the fairway awaiting the green to clear. There was not a group within a hole behind us, but I was told we'd have to pick up and move to the next hole. Needless to say, my response was less than probably appropriate to Mr. Ranger - especially since we were waiting to hit.
