Played back in 2005. Just adding it to my map of memories
Another course I played that is either closed or pretty close to closing...it was a cool course. What I expected from an Arizona course mid August. Hot as heck. Had great views of the aircraft boneyard and some rare planes.
Ok course
While the golf course is fairly nice getting on base to play is a nightmare unless you are in the military showed drivers license insurance card and car registration and had a background check than had to wait almost 30 min. for someone from the golf course to come down to "sponsor" us in order for us to proceed to the GC while I appreciate our military and support the security of our bases this is way to much red tape to go through to golf will pass next time
Blanchard OK
This is not a difficult course; very good for duffers. It is flat and very open. Fairways and greens were very good. Greens putt fast, but a few minutes on the practice green will set you up for the real thing. There were walkers so play was a little slow but not irritatingly so. Main drawback was the procedure for getting on the base: you need a passport or birth certificate to prove citizenship, probably will stand in line to get to the service window in the welcome center, and then must wait at the base gate for an escort to pick you up and lead you in. Plan on a half-hour, at least.
Long, challenging greens
Simple layout, but long, with fast greens. Fairways and greens in good to very good condition. Rough very playable. Bunkers variable. A decent course for the money. Must have a pass to get onto Davis-Monthan Airbase. Passes can be had at the visitors center, call ahead and a staff will meet you there to sponsor your visit.
Blanchard GC at Davis-Monthan AFB
The course is reasonably long but not very difficult. It is flat and you can roll the ball all the way onto the green on most holes. The fairways are watered--bad lies are not a problem--and the greens are very smooth. It's a good course for seasoned citizens who often find themselves with less air game and more ground game as the years go by.
Getting thru the gate and in to the base is a bit of a hassle. You need to call the pro shop and they will send someone down to get you signed in. Also, if you like to sit down for a sandwich and beverage after the round, you are largely out of luck. The bar and grill closes at 1pm That's right . . . one hour after noon and they close up shop!
enjoyable round
nice flat course with wide open fairways. nicely maintained and fun to play. a bit of a hassle to get on base the first time but will apply for 6 mo pass in future.
Pleasant surprise
The course was in great condition. Not much elevation change, fairly flat. The greens were very well maintained, in great shape, not too difficult and rolled true. Staff was very friendly. Food was great. All and all a great value. I will play here often.
Golf Course layout
Could have next hole directions, but later found in handbook from Golf Course complete layout then everything's smooth as silk.
On AFB, kind of hassle to get pass to get onto Air Force base
Course is flat, and wide open, with MANY wasteland areas. Got a good price, and glad I got to play it. Staff were all very helpful
unplayable for non residents.
When I arrived at the gates at 08:50, I was told that I would haveto wait until 09:30 for an escort. When the escort from the golf club arrived, we were informed that I could not enter the base unless the escort guarante. Truly disappointing!!.
the course has a lot of desert
Green were in great shape but slow and the fairway was lush.
A wide open desert course
Staff is great. On a military base so plan for additional time to clear admission to the base. Took me about 20 minutes. Tee boxes are nice. Fairways ok, lateral ground is mostly rocks and dried bushes. Greens actually seemed slow.
In the wild blue skys.
Nice course, nice employees. One good tip is if you plan to play this course fairly often you should get a 6 month pass at the visitor center. This way you can drive right onto the base instead of waiting at the visitor center for the golf course guys come to sign you in.
Fun course
As a civilian I never knew I could play this course. Turns out you just have to go get a day pass at the visitor center. The course is easy. Wayward shots are easy to get back in play and if you don't try to overpower the course you might be surprised and how low a score you can shoot. The course is in good shape for this time of year and I can't wait to go back.
