Irresponsible New Ownership! Unfortunate & Disgraceful.
I would not recommend this course to anyone. Ownership recently changed and the new ownership (Generation Golf, LLC) is not a company that I can in good conscience do business with. Prior to the new management, Dorado GC was very nice executive course. Conditions were always good, staff was friendly, and the course & environment were welcoming to beginning golfers. However, since Generation Golf took over operations in mid-May, it is no longer a course I can golf. I had golfed there once since the changeover on May 30. Apparently, at that time they must have still been using the old reservation system. On my next visit there on July 18, the reservation system must have been synced with the system used at the other course they operate in Tucson (Rolling Hills GC).
Upon check-in that day, when I gave my name I was told that I was not longer allowed to golf at Dorado GC. Prior to that visit, (and even though I made my tee time time reservation in my own name over the phone) I had never been informed that I was being denied service at ANY golf course. But on this visit upon check-in I was told that there was a note on my reservation and I was no longer allowed to golf there. When I requested an explanation, none was immediately provided. Upon insistence as to the reason, eventually the manager informed me it was due to a complaint I had made in December at Rolling Hills GC to the general manager (and executive director of Generation Golf, Dorado's new ownership).
The complaint was regarding that course's lack of adherence to Pima County's emergency masking order in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. On that visit, there were no signs posted for the mandatory masking requirement in or around the pro shop, and I watched patrons come and out not wearing any face coverings nor even attempting to maintain a 6' distance with anyone else. There was also a large group of drunk, unmasked patrons congregating on the covered patio area just in front of the clubhouse & pro shop. Not a single employee said anything, and watched as those drunk, unmaksed patrons walked in and out of the pro shop and indoor restrooms.
So I have now been 'blacklisted' from all courses that Generation Golf, LLC operates, in retribution for my complaint that they were in violation of the County Health emergency order. I cannot in good conscience support, nor recommend Dorado now, nor any other course operated by this management group. I'm sure the general manager of Dorado & executive director, Generation Golf, LLC will never admit to this. He did inform me in an email since my last unsuccessful visit to the course, that I was permanently being denied service (and "anyone associated with me") due to 'disagreements' with them in the past at both courses. I found that quite interesting, as I had only golfed Dorado once since they took over operations there and had no issues on that visit. I have had no contact with the general manager since I emailed him with my complaint on Rolling HIlls GC in December. He never responded to that email complaint, and I never returned to Rolling Hills again after that appalling and disturbing visit there in December.
I will miss the course that Dorado once was, and it's unfortunate that the course in now owned and operated by an irresponsible management group. I also cannot recommend that anyone give a company their patronage that refuses to maintain a safe environment for its employees and patrons, and violates local country heath ordinances. Inexcusable and disgraceful.
Great for beginners
Easy pace, challenging layout for beginners. Inconsistent greens: some fast but acceptable and some just dry, rock solid. No beverages offered around course, just clubhouse.
Beginner
I’m a beginner to golf. This was an easy course to play at. The pace was good. I think if anything my bf and I were the slow ones. But we kept up with the couple ahead of us. So I’d think we were okay. The ONLY thing that was eh was no beverages. I like to drink some beer on the course. And they don’t offer any beverages. But other then that. A great course for beginners. We did all 18 holes in about 3 hours.
Great Day At Dorado
First time and we will be back. Good golf rates and check in moved quickly after computer started working. Nice layout for a mature course. Highly recommend but slow play in spots on a Saturday.
Fun little course
Great little executive course, a bit pricey for the amount of golf you actually play. Nice carts. Could use better on course signage as cart paths are often not obvious. Overall, fun little course.
Future is doubtful
Might have been a fun executive course many years ago. Not much to say today. Dry. Dusty. Tired. Hard baked greens.
Play Rolling at Hill instead.
Slow pace of play
Beautiful course for walking but no beverages available on course and no ranger to keep pace of play. Foursome in front of us were so slow and didn’t seem to care they were holding everyone up. On course portapotty was awful and if you can hold it till you do finish the better. I
A little pricey in comparison
Pros:
Great, friendly staff. Easy course. Good greens condition
Cons:
No beverage service or bar. Very dusty cart paths. Started later than tee time because of lack of carts. Fairways and bunkers VERY dry.
My opinion:
Overpriced in comparison to local courses.
Extremely overpriced
Course was way overpriced. Got behind a 5 some who never offered our 3 some to play through. We jumped in front of them at the turn when they stopped at the clubhouse. They didn’t seem happy about us hitting when they got to the tee. We played the front 9 in over 2 hours and the back 9 in 70 minutes. It is a par 62, 3000 yards.
Great Alternative
Want to play golf in 3 hours on a reasonable course with friendly staff? This is a good choice!
Fun Sunday
My wife took me and my daughter and son in law to this course for my birthday. I hadn’t golfed in a while so this was a good course to get my feet wet in. The staff was very friendly, the course was good, and we enjoyed our day.
