Starr Pass - RoadRunner #9 Photo submitted by Mark7630854 on 10/08/2012
Have always loved the original 18 at Starr Pass good to great shape some wet trips but hey it had rained the night before. Great desert course 🌵with some spectacular views. 🌵⛳️🌵⛳️

This course rates up there with all the higher end courses in Tucson. People were friendly and accommodating. We had an exceptional experience at Starr Pass
Skip Palmer (was Roadrunner)
Palmer course has too many par 3's. Play Coyote/Rattler.
Everything about the course, staff we dealt with, restaurant were very good. Problem was slow play by a group in front of us. Our cart GPS showed us 90 minutes behind the pace.
These were assumed to be displayed on all carts. I had an appointment 6 hours after my tee time, so I was forced to depart the course before finishing my round. I informed the departure staff about the situation, they were very sympathetic, but they informed me that they do not employ a course marshal and rely on the golfers to police the course.
Keep your driver home
Beautiful course with great views of mountains and even some city views. Course is challenging, it's up in the mountains where wind is prevalent. You not only need to know your wedge numbers but need to be able to adjust them 10-20 yards for the win. Precision is needed with approach shots as pin placement left small target areas. Fairways are tight and if you miss them it's a penalty because it's all dense desert shrubs. Blind approach shots, blind tee shots, target golf.
The course is well watered, rough is cut short so it plays like hitting off the fairway. Rough is longer around the green, but not too thick. Bunkers need more sand. Tee boxes were flat, fairways were cut short with plenty of seed. Fringe was a bit long, putting onto the green would throw the ball in a specific direction. Greens were fast but not too firm.
Carts have GPS but screens are small. Pace alerts are on the screen, but didn't see a ranger all round. No water bottles provided, you are given (1) 9 oz plastic cup for the round that you can fill up every ~3 holes.
Value is absolutely there if you are good enough to play the layout. Good grass practice range. Good restaurant with view of 18 after the round. 10 min tee time intervals. Fighter jets flying over the course frequently.
One of the more difficult courses I've played.
No food or beverage other than at the start of the round at the little snack bar.
No starter?
Great day on the course
What a treat to play this course. The views that surround this course are beautiful. Native cactus and vegetation all around with wildlife every where. The course was challenging but in a good way and it was in beautiful shape. The greens were just right for me. We played in less than fours hours and had a great lunch after. Do yourself a treat and play this course.
Great Value in AZ
Fantastic round, course in great condition. Played from the tips, so the tee boxes were untouched. Challenging but fair course. Pace of play was excellent.
wonderful course
Very well laid out course. Challenging and a little tight, but nothing servere. A lot of well placed carries off tee boxes, and approch shots. just enough to get into your head. Actually makes you condcentrate more. Fairways were lush with perfect lies. Greens were nice but a little deceptive. Hit your puts firm io the hole, or the unseen break at the hole will turn your ball away . hit it to hard and your ball will roll way past the hole. watch for the hidden uphill putt. look at the hill behind the green what looks like a flat surface acturally goes uphill.
This is a must play course. Staff is very friiendly. Can't say enough good things about the course.
Loved the course would definitely go back difficult course with lots of blind shots and undulation definitely not a boring course to play.
Sand traps- very poor
Rocks and pebbles
Not up to standards of a Troon. Course
Need more staff with. Gas, etc especially after 4 pm
Amazing Course
Great course with friendly staff. Scenery was amazing greens were a bit slow as well as pace of play thus the 4 star review.
Nice course but bunkers are in poor condition
Bunkers have no sand. If you are not going to maintain then they should be switched to grass.
Great golf
A beautiful desert track. Target golf. An interesting layout with a couple blind shots. A course that rewards proper club selection. Very fun.
