Great 9-hole course
I was very surprised. This is a small country course that is very well maintained. You play the front side from the white tees and the back side from the blue tees. The fairways are a little clumpy when the grass thins out primarily on the edges. The greens roll very nicely and smooth. They are a little slow but that's probably because of the grass. The grass is a large bladed grass but they are very smooth. They don't seem to break much.
There are a few very cool holes. Number 2 is a short 90 degree dogleg par 4 from the white tees and a little longer from the blue tees. You drive your ball to the corner. Your second shot will be from 100 to 130 yards or so depending on where you place your drive. Number 6 is a nice par 3 that has trouble front and left. Hit it fat off the tee and you're in a pond. Yank it left and you're in another water hazard. Number 7 is a par 5 that has water and trees on the right hand side. Relatively easy par 5 expect when you move back to the blue tees. From the back tees you have to hit a longer drive and keep it left to avoid the trees on the right which will force you to play a fade around the trees. Cut it too much and you could be in the water. Number 18 is a bear of a hole. From the white tees it's about 400 yards but when you move back it becomes a 450 yard monster that seems to play into the prevailing wind. It was a little windy the day I played and it was all I could handle. I failed to get up and downpour par from about 40 yards. Brute of a hole for us shorter hitters.
A great course considering it's in a small town and only nine holes. But the do a great job maintaining the course. I plan to play this course more often even though it's a 200 mile drive for me to ge there.
Sweet
This course is a great value. The staff is very friendly and courteous, The sand traps are very well kept as are the greens. I will golf here again and again.
Looks like Tim Cup’s driving range.
Deal was $12 for 18 holes, a cart, and balls. Driving range was limited to 7 iron and under it was so short. Wide open course. Greens were like a shag rug. Fairways were non existent. Girl in clubhouse was very nice. It’s the only course for 60 mile radius you’d think it would be better. Not worth the money.
No Waiting
Course was in great shape, little warm, some breezes but no hold ups or waiting for the next shot. Play here once or so a month; great lady in the shop, extremely clean and maintained course. It is a nice place to play and visit.
Great Deal, good course
The city takes good care of the course. extremely clean and inviting. I enjoy the course and value the reasonable price to play,
Nice Day
Quick and easy to play, plenty of challenge for an average golfer. Very nice staff, enjoyable afternoon of golf.
Fun course
9 hole course played once from the whites and once from the blues. Fairly straight course on a flat layout. A few dog leg holes and some water to contend with. A few scattered trees that never came in to play. Carts are old, but they make the 18 holes with no problem. Not lush or pristine, but enjoyable. Its an easy play with just enough challenge.
ONLY A 9 HOLE COURSE
Paid $6 for round, overpaid by $5. Pace of play always good when nobody at the course. Very friendly lady working...only good aspect here. Dusty dirty course, should be plowed under.
was in the area for the day
The tee boxes could use trimming... the fairways were in sad shape... annoying gnats on early fairways... poorly maintained water hazards. BUT from about 30 yards in, it was actually pretty nice. Greens were soft and consistent. If you must golf and are in the area, focus on your short game and bear with the distractions.
Play in the summer
Wait until summer to play this course. This time of year the fairways are dead.. They do not over seed . The course is flat and open. The greens were in pretty good condition. Staff was nice. I would recommend this course in the summer when it has some grass on the fairways.
Excellent For A Beginner!!!
This course isn't the most appealing, but its the best place if your a beginner. This course is flat and the fairways are for the most part parallel to one another so if you slice the ball drastically it will just land on the other fairway and your good! On top of that this is a very small town so the most people I have seen out there at once is about 4 groups for the entire course. So, given the layout of the course on top of the few people that will be there this course will allow you to take all the time you need.
basic muni
This course is as basic as it get. Not much excitement here. It's probably a favorite of the local seniors. It's very friendly and flat. The town was quaint and there are several wineries where you can do tasting. That was worth the trip the course not so much. If you are a beginner you can spray the ball and still stay in the hole .
Greens in the best shape ever
Price great, staff awesome, overall was very pleased with the condition of the course. The greens are in the best condition ever ive been playing there for 8years really nice course for a small town.
GREAT if you like this type of course
This is what my buddies in Texas call a "cow pasture" course. Literally cut out of farming and ranch property. Extremely flat with almost no water, sand or trees (just enough of each to make it look like a golf course). I LOVED the course. Very easy. Very relaxing. Only three individuals spread out amongst the 9 holes on a Thursday morning. Completed 18 holes in just under two hours!! Long enough to be a real golf course, but easy enough to shut off your brain and enjoy a relaxing day of golf with no challenges. VERY walkable...short green to tee. The pro running the counter was very pleasant. My only disappointment was that the course is located an hour and a half from my house. If not for that, this is exactly the kind of course that I would play everyday.
If you are looking for a picturesque course with well-maintained fairways and challenging holes, this ain't your place. However, that's a fair trade for a nice view of distant mountains and hard fairways that let a low ball roll forever! Found the tees and greens to be in perfectly acceptable condition for the type of course and low green fees. Good, inexpensive golf if you are near Willcox.
