Back along Snively’s Ridge on the eastern boundary of the Santa Lucia Preserve is a spot that is one of the great luxury getaways in the USA. It’s called Carmel Valley Ranch, and its Pete Dye par-70 layout is a very playable golf course that was voted one of the Top 100 Women-Friendly Courses in the country by Golf for Women’s Magazine.

Carmel valley ranch

The course was in excellent condition but the pace of play was terrible. The Marshall allowed a five-some to tee off ahead of us and it backed up the entire course. On the fourth hole we had 3 groups waiting to tee off.

Staff and director of golf are terrible.

Played here as part of our honeymoon we were greeted by the staff with a “what do you want” after they were busy talking for 5 min while we were waiting. Someone who started with an L was somewhat standoffish and acted like he was better than us for some reason and someone with a g or a c first name was the worst. Save your money this resort is not the best Monterey has to offer. You deserve better, as we found out the next night staying in a Carmel inn and just playing any course we wanted.

A real gem at $125

Excellent conditions from tee boxes to the greens. A wide variety of holes with some incredible views on the back side. One weak par 3 but that’s my only gripe (besides not being able to play before 12 noon if you’re not a resort guest). Waited a long time to play here and can’t wait to return. Kudos to the entire team at CVR!!

Immaculate conditions

My first time playing this course and I was very impressed with the overall course conditions. Very lush, evenly and accurately maintained fairways, rough and greens.
Very hard to find any patch of dirt or poorly maintained grass. Greens were fabulous and extremely consistent. Beautiful surroundings.
I would recommend this course.

Hidden Gem of Carmel, CA.

I was fortunate enough to discover this course because of my lessons there with legendary teacher, Fred Shoemaker. The course and staff are just Fabulous! Best value for the money in Carmel! Highly Recommend!

Loved it!

Possibly most immaculate course I’ve ever played. Perfect condition. Better than Spyglass. Helpful, friendly starter. Beautiful views with lots of deer and wild turkeys.
