Chesapeake Golf Club
About
Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Amazing
My friends and I enjoyed the course! It was beautiful and we didn’t feel rushed
A bit disappointed
I played this course last fall with a friend. We found it challenging and at the same time, a bit on the rough side. Fairways weren't it great shape, which we chalked up to the time of year, and just coming off of summer. Also, like so many courses, trees have leaves that fall in the fall so it was easy to loss a ball if you were off to the side. The same friend and I were excited to come back thinking the work would be finished getting the course ready for the new year. The greens (90%) were very nice, unfortunately some golfers still don't get the idea of ball marks and fixing them, so there was some damage. There is also some type of weed that is growing in some of the greens. Tee boxes were great, but the fairways...... rough both on the edges and inside. Some real work needs to be done to get the fairways in shape..
Good day slow pace of play.
It was a good day for golf vefire weather came un. Git an earlier tee yime. I guess oyhers did too. Without a starter to regulate atarts the pace was slow. 5 hr round..
Decent Course
The course itself is not bad. Plays pretty quickly. Pace seems to be an issue sometimes. Seems like groups don’t know how to let singles play through. Greens weren’t terrible but def not the best.
BE AWARE!
Driving range conditions were trash! 180yrd. Max distance
Had to call to ask them to send out a Marshall to check on why it was 4 groups backed up. Pace of play was the absolute worst part about this course. I teed off 35 minutes after my normal tee time.
Course does NOT drain well! Don’t recommend playing after a drop of rain.
NO beverage cart going around the course!
Otherwise playability of the course layout was challenging at times, conditions were well kept (aside from the rain), level of difficulty was about a 6/10. Pretty flat course and a lot of getable holes.
Not worth the money
While the course is located in a nice area of town and surrounded by an expensive neighborhood, the facilities are extremely disappointing. To start, the actual condition of the course is not worth the $40 I paid to play. It may be the end of November, but the fairways were no better than a course you could play at half the price such as Kempsville or Ocean View. Cart paths were atrocious. The greens are a redeeming factor…for now. This was my second time playing the course and the greens had been improved, but you could tell that they aren’t taken care of. The many small patches of weeds will likely become large patches. Also, no one repairs divots at this course and the super doesn’t take it upon himself either. Tons of dead spots on the greens. The layout is average, a few interesting holes with water or early dog legs, but still nothing you couldn’t get for cheaper elsewhere. Off course facilities are worse than on course. Take my advice, use the bathroom before you leave home because the bathrooms in the club house haven’t been cleaned in months. Also, you don’t return to the club house after 9 so be sure to use the portable toilet on 7. And if you are expecting a beverage cart, be on the lookout for a regular cart with a cooler in the passenger seat. Suffice it to say, this course is not worth your time and money if you are closer to VB or Norfolk courses like I am. And even if you are in Chesapeake, I’d drive a little further to Battlefield. Sure, their off course facilities are modest at best, but their prices reflect it and the course quality itself makes up for the weekend rate. I will say, I’be played Chesapeake’s sister courses (Honeybee and Stumpy Lake) and the quality of their facilities are much higher. Still pricey for what it is? Yes. But better than Chesapeake by far.
Chesapeake
Terrible range limited to 8i and under, I got there 45 prior to tee time and could not warm up because the ball dispenser was empty.
