Black Horse at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
About
Following a $13 million renovation at this 36-hole former military facility, Black Horse Golf Course was not only dramatically improved, but now comparable to its more revered sister course, Bayonet. Black Horse has long been considered the easier of the two, but that's not exactly a given now with the improvements and lengthening by golf course architect Gene Bates. Its serrated bunkers may be a little easier to get out of than the cavernous craters on Bayonet, and the fairways are little more generous, but Black Horse makes up for it with more undulating and difficult greens. The renovation also opened up the views to Monterey Bay for both courses. Trees were trimmed, and both courses now have an overall cleaner look, especially with the latest bentgrass turf from tee to green.

Will definitely be back!
Super fun course. In excellent condition. Greens are challenging in a good, fun kind of way. Only negative is that houses are currently being built around the course which, at least for now detracts from the visual appeal.
Too much costruction
Homes being built destroy the beauty of course and are responsible for disruptive construction to accommodate houses…or should i say McMansions
More houses
Feel o course being destroyed with houses. Course conditions poor as result of construction
Reseeding makes Black Horse worth playing
Played on 7/17/23 and the fairways were in much better condition than when I played 2 years ago!
A year from now will allow the course to mature and be in 1st class condition
BlackHorse
It’s very nice place to golfing. Recently as remodeling and build new houses, much dirt around, ball has to be straight otherwise will tough to keep up
One of My Favorite Courses
Bayonet and Black Horse are great courses. The courses are always in great shape, and the pace of play is good (on the weekdays). The practice facility has everything you need. The weather is the thing you need to worry about, but that's part of the game. Have fun!!!
It will be great, next year…
The fairways and greens are good. But so much construction right now. Awesome in another year!
Course is in a state of transition
I love the layout of Black Horse. Yes it has tough challenging greens, but if you plot your way around the track you can still score reasonably well
However, the course is in a state of transition right now. Aside from all the housing construction going on mere feet from the course, they are doing some turf modifications. About half the course is torn up and dirt As of now the preferred landing areas are still in tact but don’t stray off line as the sides of the fairway are pure dirt.
Greens are firm as usual with only a few having some ugly spots. Maintenance did a good job keeping the pins away from those areas.
One of the tee boxes was just dirt. I assume in preparation for new turf
If you play during the week, prices are acceptable but you have to deal with all of the construction crews. Play during the weekend and prices soar high but no crew’s to interfere with your game.
It will be interesting to see how many of the views of the bay are blocked out by houses….
Alots of constuction
piace is a mess with all the construction green not in the best shape
Another great day at Black Horse Golf Course
The price rate to play this course is the best deal out there right now. I hope they continue to offer it all summer long.
