Omni Amelia Island Resort - Oak Marsh
About
Oak Marsh is a Pete Dye-designed golf course that is one of three 18-hole courses at Omni Amelia Island Resort. The Oak Marsh course meanders alongside the Atlantic Ocean, providing sweeping views and an ever-changing sea breeze.
Appropriately named after its terrain of scenic salt marshes and moss-draped heritage oaks, the golf course has a stunning landscape that is ideal for a challenging round. Dye protected the natural beauty of the island by carefully maintaining the tidal marshes, oceanfront dunes, grassland, and savannahs. The layout features tight fairways and small, bulk-headed greens, a classic Dye element. There are a variety of bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on fourteen holes.

Awesome Layout. Mediocre conditions.
Layout and views are primo! The green were muni slooowwww probably rolling at a 7. Hairy and sandy. Apparent they hadn’t been mowed in days. Tee boxes were also under grown and spotty. All in all the layout and views make it a great track. Improve green rolling and speeds and it’s a no brainer.
Only issue is that bat/restaurant closes too early
Great track but….
Great layout with super friendly and accommodating staff. Poor condition. You can see 10 to 30 old cup placements on most greens. Greens were slow. Tee boxes needed attention..
Can't go wrong here!
Great staff, nice practice area, challenging course and well maintained!
You will enjoy.
Slow play
the course was nice and we were off to a good start, but on the 6th hole we had to wait on EVERY SHOT for the rest of the round. There were two foursomes ahead of us (old guys) that played REAL SLOW!! WHERE IS THE RANGER??? There wasn't one!! For the amount we paid (even with the Golfnow hot deal), they should have had someone out there keeping it moving and letting us (a twosome) play through.
And we had a single hit in to us 3 times!! One hole, #15, I was on the right side looking for my ball and he hit up on to the green before I found mine! (we didn't finish the hole). Same thing the next hole!
It was a 5 hour round. That can be frustrating.
Nice course (a little over priced but nice).
Oak Marsh
Oak Marsh is a great course to play when you are feeling good about your game and you need a stiff dose of humility. For me, this is a fun course to play. Scenic, with mossy oaks overhanging the fairways. This was my fifth time playing it, and I think I am finally getting the hang of it. There are many places that you need to be on a certain side of the fairway to have a shot at the green. Course seemed to be in below average shape. Like we are in-between growing seasons. Will probably be better in a month. We went off the first tee more than 30 minutes after the previous group. So it was like we had the place to ourselves. Staff is excellent, and you really feel taken care of. It's a good change of pace course to go play near Jacksonville.
Not What I Expected, Not Great
Overall the experience was not what I had expected from an Omni course. As one of the "jewels" in their portfolio of hotels, it was not up to the level of other 4 star hotels. Cost of the round was not terrible, however once we experienced the condition of the course, it was evident why the course was nearly empty. Greens were nice, but tees to fairways to consistency of bunkers to lack of beverage cart service, it was not good. We regret not booking TPC Sawgrass instead of driving all the way out to the course to find the conditions as they were.
We were also paired with a single whom was great, however the course was empty, why wouldn't the starter offer the single to head out ahead?
Food at the turn was only in the restaurant, it took almost 20 minutes to get 2 hotdogs and when asking about the cigars in the humidor, the server noted that her manager was across property and they weren't able to get us any...
No offer to load bags onto carts or clean and remove from the carts from the outside staff.
Proshop team was great, very friendly, offered to help us find items and were very engaging and helpful with tips for our first time playing.
I would not recommend this course until they are able to get it back to a premium playing condition or if they were to reduce the prices to something of a locals type course.
We will skip next time in Florida.
Great possibilities, But!!!
Good layout but the greens were terrible....absolutely horrible!
Allen
Course was in better condition than the recent reviews had insinuated. It was a bit rough around the edges and the greens had recently been top-dressed with sand but they rolled true. Coming out of cooler months I thought the grass was in acceptable shape and I am sure once the weather gets hot the Bermuda will grow in well for the summer season. Was an overall shorter layout but like any Pete Dye course it was about angles and your approaches to the green that mattered the most. Staying at the Omni it was convenient and I would play again.
