Better than some, but worst than most.
Before I get too far into this review, I will say that Thursday afternoon we had monsoon rains, so some of my problems were from muddy areas (today was Saturday).
With that said, the course was ok but not a good value at $25. I was part of a group and they accommodated us nicely, so there is that.
The greens were ugly with brown spots but most rolled ok. The speeds on them was somewhat inconsistent.
The fairways were good in most places, but there were ruts from carts and rain that shouldn't have been there - yesterday should have been cart path only and probably wasn't.
I did not have a horrible problem with the rough - you just have to adjust your shot and your expectations.
The sand traps are ridiculous - probably the poorest feature. I was able to putt out of 2 of them - others in my group had lots of trouble with the hard pack when putting was not an option.
Bottom line, the course is playable and does not deserve some of the harsh criticism I have seen in other reviews. For a small $ upgrade, there are plenty of courses in better shape around here that you can play, but PB-South is ok.
It could be better with some work, so I am hoping that it will improve.
Poor Condition
General course conditions were awful. Several greens were totally unplayable. Fairways decent but any ball in the first cut just disappeared.
Cut rate price was $10 each......we over-paid!
Greens roll good, and course is OK. It is early September and still fairly hot. We had the course to ourselves which is always great. No heavy rain for a week or so which is what it needs to play well. Can get wet at times, but value for the dollar is very good.
Fun track, fix the greens.
This would be a nice track if the greens were any good. This is like PBNorth. Both would be great if they had puttable greens. Fun time, I’ll be back.
Awful
This course is only for beginners or players that don't care about course conditions. It seems the owners don't care about simple things like cutting or removing grass from fairways. Sand box was like hard mud. Green were like cart path.
Pelican Bay South traditional value
This course is in excellent condition. The traditional layout is pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to play. The staff is friendly and does an excellent job both inside and out side the club house. Definitely a keeper we will play on a regular basis.
the course for the price was great though the greens were not in good shape
Hot summer afternoon
Got on the course about 12:30 pm. Players were few but enjoyed the course and the pace of play.
Much evidence of course conditioning
This has been an up and down course. Now it is in good condition except for one green that is being yreated. Good value. Enjoyable course.
Very bad condition
Even taking into account the unusual amount of rain, the grass wasn’t cut and we had a difficult time determining if you were on the fairway or the rough. I’ve played other courses in the area and they seemed to be able to cut the grass.
Fairways were more dirt than grass. Greens were very good. At $22 a round they should still give you some $$$ back. Will not go back.
Golf Course
One of the best staffs that I have experienced at a golf course so far. The course was in excellent condition and very challenging with great pin locations. Me and my playing partners loved the experience and course.
Nice Outing at Pelican Bay South
Nice layout but course needs some work as fairways are not great. Tee boxes a bit rough also. Front 9 greens not in great shape. Back 9 greens pretty decent shape.
1st game of season
Arrived 1 hour early & was offered to start - which I did. Interesting course, greens some brown spots.
Great practice - no pressure.
Nice course, poor tee boxes
Everything about the course was fine except the tee boxes. They were horrible, mostly all sand.
Good layout. Very poor condition.
Good design, but, looks like this course is still recovering from hurricane damage. Tee boxes with NO GRASS. Fairways bare in places and weedy. Greens were playable and consistent.
