A little dark, but black bear in a dark tree, hole # 6...appropriate for Black Bear Golf Club! Photo submitted by relivgolfers on 09/29/2013
Course conditions underwhelming
Played the course given the 4-star rating, but it's more 3-star. Course wasn't in great shape, although greens were nice and rolled true. I can see this being a very nice course under better conditions.
Black Bear GC a fair test and great features
We love the layout of this Course. A true test of your skills as a golfer.
Not it’s former glory
I was a member here long ago when the course was in amazing shape. I would say it’s in decen shape. Greens are good but lots of ball marks unrelated on the greens. The traps have seen erosion and are not well kept. Sand is hard and compacted.
Pace of play was ok. The layout of the course is challenging and fun. You have to have your wedge game on point. Lots of elevated and large rolling greens. Misses leave you with sand or challenging chip shots. When this course was in its prime, it was one of the best around.
Need to be in decent physical condition to play this coy
Black Bear Eustis 1/6/23
The course staff at check-in and restaurant offered a friendly greeting and service. The golf course is in as good shape as it has ever been. Not handicap (golfer) friendly. Many signs indicate what is or is not allowed, such as keeping both tires on the cart path near the greens and tee boxes, which would make it difficult to walk to and fro. Not a slam, but an observation. I like that the owner and manager take great pride in trying to keep the course in as good a condition as possible. I would play it again at the Golf Now 'HOT DEAL' rate.
Goat Pasture
Not sure what happened to this place
Had to be ran out of money
Nothing overseeded or maintained well
Minimum efforts to make conditions tolerable
Greens need help
One of my favorite courses in the Orlando area love the layout never seen it in such poor condition every green had multiple dead patches all over sad to see hopefully they get it back under control.
Greens having some issues
Played on a busy Saturday morning. They didn’t cut the greens so they were very slow. Looks like the greens have a fungus because they are very patchy in many spots.
I was shocked at the price but the conditions warranted it.
It's not what it used to be
I played black bear in the USGA Pub- links qualifier about 16 years ago and it was a great golf course in phenomenal shape. I just played again today and I'm sad to say that it has really gone downhill. The greens were so slow that you could barely get a putt to the hole and the rough is overrun with weeds. The bunkers, it looks like they've just given up on trying to keep there in shape. The pace of play was great because there was literally no one else out there. I really hope that they can get this course back into better shape because it truly was a fantastic golf course back in the day.
another one bites the dust
another course in central florida that won’t spend money to maintain conditions. greens are laughably slow. weeds and dirt around greens. hole 6 has a temporary green. so disappointing. won’t be back in awhile.
Really Fun Round!
The layout is great! It's really open off the tee, except for well placed fairway bunkers. Then the raised green complexes are very challenging with unique shapes, multiple levels, and lot of interesting contours. Overall the course is in great shape!
Course not in good shape for the money
Our golf group plays this course several times per year. This is the worst shape it has ever been and price is too high for this area. Greens were aerated but we were not told and charged the full price. The starter said we should have been charged less due to the aeration.
In addition, our tee times were reserved using Golf Now. The third tee time was canceled 48 hours in advance yet Black Bear did not acknowledge and is now charging my card for a no-show fee when I have an email from GolfNow that shows the submission of the cancellation.
Won’t be back.
Fun track would go back!
I haven’t played blackbear in a long time, so it was nice to go back and see how it is. Course was in decent shape. No concerns a little bit of bare spots here and there but nothing like some places you see. Pace of play was good, had one large slow group in front of us and the Ranger made sure to talk to them and allow us to pass. Price is a little high in my mind for what you get but not crazy out of line enjoyed it a lot and would definitely go back
Potential….
This course has tons of potential! The price was a bit high considering the condition of a few of the greens, most traps and a few ground under repair spots. It has a Phenomenal layout, and hills, and small fast greens, but it’s just not as pristine as the price would have you think…the off road path to the range was a bit ehhhh municipal.
Probably will not be back, but would recommend it for someone to play, and Sandy played it, it’s a very interesting course in central Florida. The staff inside was exceptional though! Heathere was an awesome bartender and waitress, and the food was delicious! I would love to see the superintendent get the budget he deserves to turn this place into a real gem!
