North/West at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course
About
Fernandina Beach Golf Club is home to three distinct nines, the North, South, and West that make up three different 18-hole combinations. This 27-hole facility boasts a unique configuration on each of the nines for a truly diverse golfing experience. The North/West course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club combines the longest nine, the West, and the shortest nine, the North. The North nine features undulating greens and water hazards but the generous, wide-open fairways of the West nine make the golf course accessible to players of all skill levels. Native foliage in addition to towering oaks and pines throughout the course allow for a scenic escape in addition to an excellent round.

Grinding on the back nine Photo submitted by Doug3188839 on 09/25/2012
The place is like a goat pasture.
Cannot say anything good about the condition of the course. The layout is pretty nice but the everything else is in very bad shape, Greens are bumpy, fairways are overgrown, rough is not well maintained, some of the tee boxes have no grass at all
Staff was nice, and got paired with two nice players so enjoyed the company
Good bang for your buck
Nice course just needs maintaining better. Sand traps needed work and lots of divots in fairways. Overall not bad at all just needs some work.
Needs help
Fairways were nonexistent and in horrible shape. Greens were slightly better. Bright spot was clubhouse with good food and service
Course could be much better.
The location and layout is great. There are lots of weeds and unkept areas. The fairways were way too long as well as the greens. The fairways were spotty too. No water to drink or cart service in Florida. Come on! No coolers were available, Just bags of ice that melted in four holes.
I paid for 18 and got very dehydrated and had to leave after 9. I asked for a rain check for another 9 another day. The lady just told me to take it up with GolfNow. That explains all the other issues at the course.
Course has gone way downhill
The fairway grass is what you would expect in the rough at many other courses in the area. Many spots have not been given any regular attention in a while. Could be a great course given the location and 27 holes available but just needs some real attention to get there.
Course conditions were awful
Looked like it hadn’t been cut in a week. It’s never great, but this round was exceptionally bad. Next time I’ll pay $10 more to go anywhere else.
The fairways were shaggy to the point that I couldn’t find balls and if I hit into the rough, forget about it. I know the rough is supposed to be penalizing, but I’m not on the tour and this rough is almost a guaranteed lost ball since I don’t have the luxury of having spotters. The green was great, if it were in the fairway… again very shaggy, patchy and poorly maintained. The bunkers were ok.
Progress is Being made
Course is on its 3rd general manager and course superintendent in the last four years. New GM has been on the job for a little over 6 months- new super, 2 months. Greens are recovering from some serious chemical mistakes made over the winter. They are coming along quite nicely now, as is the putting green. Fairways, bunkers and tee boxes need work. Avoid the South course if you can - fairways are closed on 2 holes (1 and 8) making it a par 33 and fairways on two others (2 and 9) probably should be closed as well. If play here and pay $60 for your round you will be understandably upset. More than $40 is too much, especially if you get stuck on the South course. But progress is being made.
It’s not that difficult to grow grass in Florida - Why can’t this course do it?
I wish I would have gone to another course. I had to roll my ball around on almost every shot because there was hardly any grass. I even hit 16 out of 18 fairways and it was difficult to find any grass to hit off of. The greens were rough - my ball danced around after every putt. However, the lady inside the club house and the starter were super nice and friendly.
Horrible couese
This course is way to expensive for the course conditions. You can’t tell the rough from the fairway, the fairway is totally loaded with weeds. The greens had lots of grass missing from disease or whatever. Never play here again.
Horrible
This was by far the worst course to date, that I have played at. The tee boxes were just hills of dirt. You couldn’t tell the fairways from the rough. The greens were a quarter gone around the edges. I would tell anyone thinking of playing there, DON’T.
Horrible Course
This was by far the worst course I have ever played at. Right from the minute we arrived, no one to help with the bags, the lady in the pro shop was very nice and friendly. The starter and cart guy were also very friendly and nice. The course itself was in horrid condition. You couldn’t tell the fairway from the rough, the greens were just aerated and no one bothered to mention that. The tee boxes were pretty much non existent, no grass on them at all. There was only one centrally located bathroom on the course and the gas carts barely went. This place needs a total upgrade.
