El Campeón es un Ganador.
This review is limited to El Campeon which is a magnificent and unique value in Central Florida. It's sister course, Los Colinas, although very nice in it's own right, is a more traditional course found throughout Florida's gated communities.
But El Campeon had it all, elevation changes, old Florida tree canopy, challenging and unqiue holes, and scenic views. It is definitely worth the drive from Central Florida and when compared to the other courses in Lake County, is top of the list.
The facilities are very nice and the staff was friendly and courteous. My only complaint would be the pace of play, as I several groups in front of me had golf ball fisherman who would spend more time looking for lost golf balls in the water than playing golf.
Tough golf course
Not you're typical flat Florida golf course .
This course has teeth and will take a bite out of you .
Pace of play was excellent and course condition was very good .
Shout out to the pro shop staff after driving from the coast and arriving well before our tee time they reworked our tee time so we would not have to wait for 2 hours .
El Campeon
Chourse could use a major overhaul. It’s over 100 years old and they probably have never resurfaced the course. Tee boxes were in really bad shape Fairways about the same. tough course and nice layout but for the money it wasn’t worth it.
Elevation changes
With the diversity of elevation on the course the change was welcome from what we're used to in South Florida. Tee shots straight uphill or downhill took some calculations. Greens were excellent, some fairways could use a little fixing up. Played with Terry who works there so he chaperone around the course which was very helpful. I will be back soon and recommend it to anyone who's looking for the excitement this course provides
Highly recommended
Despite slow 5 hour round had a great time. Greens run true fairways and tees in peak conditions. Worth the drive to play course with so much history
GREAT COURSE, BUT I DONT KNOW IF I WOULD OF PAID FULL PRICE
GREAT COURSE, BUT I'M GLAD I GOT A DEAL. AT THE FULL PRICE RATE WHICH IS ALITTLE HIGH. DONT THINK ITS WORTH THE EXPENSE. SO I SUGGEST WATCH FOR DEALS!!!
Design is unique
The elevation change is very unique in FL. It keeps me excited playing every hole.
Green and fairway aren’t good in a few holes, but the layout more than offset that.
Harder than I expected....
The course layout and conditions were great. There was more elevation change than I expected, and more break to the greens than I am used to. I'm not really one to complain however, I inquired about pin placement indicators (ie colored flags, secondary flag on the stick, etc.) and the starter tapped the GPS in my cart and said "use this and if you're on the green you'll have a birdie putt". Now, at the directional sign for the course the had a "pin position#2" sign but the scorecard didn't have pin positions on it, and the GPS didn't have pin positions on it. There was a zoom feature on the GPS for the greens which showed the slopes, but the pin was shown in the center of every one of them. Here's my dilemma...If the flag is on the front of the green I don't want to necessarily play a shot at the flag and miss short, so I'd like to know what club I can use to carry past the flag and stay on the green. The opposite is true if the flag is in the back. Also, since the green zoom feature shows the slopes (which are sever in some spots) you might want to adjust your aim or distance to accommodate the slopes. This came into play on quite a few holes and I found myself saying "well I wish I'd known that"...Sorry to fuss, but it was an issue and I didn't really appreciate the starter making me feel like I should be lucky just to hit the green. It was a little pretentious. I played the El Campeon course and I found it challenging but enjoyable.
They sent us to a different course
We were very excited to experience El Campeón for the first time. We booked a 2:12pm tee time. Upon arrival, the starter (who was very kind) approached us and let us know that a group of 20 was teeing off on El Campeón and that we would be better off going to play the other course (Las Colinas) and if we tried to play El Campeón, we would not finish our round. The person in the pro shop said that there was nothing they could do to comp us since it was a TeeOff booked time. It became apparent that they had either overbooked or bumped our tee time entirely. While Las Colinas was a nice course, it was definitely disappointing to not be able to play the course that we booked/paid for.
The pace of play was horrible. The first 5 holes went smoothly, the rest was hit and wait. We teed off at 1:30 and couldn't play #18 because we has a 6:15 dinner reservation on the Mission property. There should have been a ranger pushing the pace of play.
Great challenging course…..
Bring your A game… Course is in great shape…worth the ride from Orlando
Hope to play again before leaving Fld.
Great Layout - Could use some TLC
Played on a Wed late morning and was a 5 hour round as a 3some behind a 2some and a 4some. The greens were in really good shape, but there were numerous dead spots on the fairways and around the greens. Sand was not good. Layout, however, is really cool. Elevation changes you don't typically see in the Orlando area made for a fun round. Could be a really nice course with some improvement to the conditions.
Turtle pace
Teed off at 1:32. Four hours later finished #13. Two other groups waiting on 14th tee so we went home. I think Marshall may have left early so he wouldn't have to face abuse. Cart girls stayed thankfully as there was lots of drinking time on tee boxes. We could only laugh about it with the guys in the threesome behind us. One group just behind us quit after 5 holes because they were group #4 on that particular tee box. Would never go back there- pro shop was not sympathetic in any way. Go play Dubsdread of Debary for better value and pace of play.
Mission Inn - El Campeon Course
Great course - a hidden gem. Parkland course in hilly terrain - unique for FL. Great layout and lots of unique and challenging holes. Course staff was great. Played as a single but was connected with 2 players from Winnepeg.
Great course, lots of elevation changes and great greens
Very difficult course with lots of elevation changes and sloping greens. Best greens I've played on in a long time. Some very unique, interesting and memorable holes. Worth playing.
