Save your time and money. Stay Away.
From the moment we got ready to hit on the first tee, we should have known this was going to be a rotten day.
Before our first tee shot was struck, someone walked up to the box and said “ I am playing with the group in front of you. Do you mind if I hit?”
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the starter actually seemed to think it was ok. We looked at him with puzzled faces until one of the other players came back and picked him up.
The next 6 hours of my life (which I will never get back), was spent waiting on dead tee boxes, or putting on grassless greens.
We saw one ranger out there and, even though he agreed the pace of play was unacceptable, he did nothing to push the group ahead of us.
The only positive thing I can say about the place is that the woman at the clubhouse bar was very friendly. Which was great because we did not see a single beverage cart on the course at any point during the round.
The fact that they have the nerve to charge $50+ to play here is the icing on the cake.
Even if it were free to play, I’ll never play here again. Ever.
Fun track, fast and smooth greens
Enjoyed this course. Conditions were on par and the greens were just right.
Sucks
No where worth $50 for the terrible course conditions and pace of play. Almost a 5 hour round with no one enforcing PCs of play.
Slooow play
The greens and tee boxes need a good bit of work. The club house bathroom is terrible. Staff was nice. It took just over 5 hours to play. It was real slow
Horrible Managment
Came into Jax to visit family after Christmas. My brother and cousins have an annual tradition of playing golf during our visit. We have played myriad of courses across Jax over the decades, including the Champions Club at Julington Creek before it was bought by Brown Golf.
With my cousin living in Julington Creek now, we scheduled this years golf outing at this course again. We teed off on time at 8:34. From the first hole to the last, we never had anyone in front of us. We have all been playing golf for over 20 years and are well aware of keeping pace.
We had a great competitive round shooting 82, 86, and 87. We had the ranger come by once on the front and twice on the back (last time was 15th hole). We could all feel that we were slightly behind the pace. However, nothing was ever said when he came by. We also came in contact with the group behind us on the 9th and asked them if they wanted to play through. They responded their they were just fine.
When we arrived to the 18th tee box, a different ranger pulled up and explained that we needed to “finish out” because we were “an hour over the pace”! We were surprised and asked if he meant ‘pick our balls up’? He continued to explain that they were “out of carts” and needed us back now. After explaining that we teed off at 8:34, and that it was currently 1:05, we understood we were off pace, but not by an hour! We politely took the information and explained our intention to finish the hole. The ranger said that we would have to “answer to the manager” on that.
We played the hole quickly. Then, as we were literally putting out, a woman walked on to the green with a dog on a leash. She yelled, “you are done”! She, “Sarah”, said she needed the carts back and to not finish putting. Our LAST putt!!!!
In 25 years of the game, I have never been told that we are fine on the 15th hole and then approached on the 18th green, by a manager with a dog, telling me not to finish my putt. COMPLETELY unprofessional and straight RUDE!
We were all absolutely perplexed. After turning our carts in, we felt it necessary to seek further explanation and understanding for the treatment. As soon as we walked in the pro shop, Sarah explained that they were super busy and needed the carts back. When I attempted to ask for reasoning and the lack of communication, she immediately replied, “leave or I’m calling the police”!!!! The POLICE!!! We all looked at each other in absolute disbelief. We came in to seek an explanation. We’re not argumentative or confrontational, and were threatened to have the police called on us! What the heck just happened here?!?!
We simply left, vowing to share our experience as I am doing here. If our treatment was a reaction due to a stressed out poor manager (ran out of carts) during a busy holiday period, then that is unacceptable IMHO. Needless to say, our outing will not be returning to Julington.
Good course in rough condition
I play this course frequently. I like the layout and the price is reasonable. Unfortunately as of today, the course is in poor condition. The overseeding has not worked well. The tees are poorly kept and unsightly. The greens are patchy and the sand traps are not acceptable. The course is fine for a friendly golf round but you will be disappointed in the overall condition. If you have never played here before, as an FYI, the course is unwalkable.
Can be a great course at times
I have played this course a few times in the past and always remember it being in good shape. Was a little disappointed with the greens and tee boxes. Also, the parking lot and much of the concrete cart paths need work. It’s a tough layout but showing its age a bit. 4 1/2 round.
Good value for your money
The course was in good shape and given the rainy weather conditions, the course played real well. I would recommend this course to anyone
Slow Pace
We had a group in front of us stop at the cart girl and each of the foursome bought a 6 pack of beer. We waited on the tee box while the foursome got their beer at the tee box after hitting their tee shots. The ranger sat and watched this, saying nothing to the group as we waited for the foursome to take their time to put their beer away and then go to hit their tee shots. All this with a hole open in front of them. The ranger should be fired!
Getting Better
Greens were in good shape. Some tee boxes were in bad condition. Cement cart paths can be an adventure. Lots of bumps and uneven cart ways. Not a huge fan of some of the back nine hole layouts, but overall would go back and play again.
Tee times packed for no reason
This course is normally a good time when playing, it’s not pristine conditions, but gets the job done. Today was a colder day and the starter told us that several tee times no showed. There were very few cars in the lot, but they managed to stack the 6 teams playing one right after the other, by sending teams early. It was hit, wait, wait, hit again, wait......ridiculous. Took 4:45 to play 18, but could have finished in under 4.
Getting better
Pace of play was decent for a weekend tee time. Course was in solid shape, but not fantastic. Greens and tee boxes still need some work, but it’s in better shape than the last time I played it 3 months ago.
Pace of play was terrible
The course was in fine shape. Little pricey for what it is, but overall ok.
The thing that killed me was the pace of play. There was no ranger out to keep things moving. We had 2 groups waiting on every hole behind a twosome!
Course maintenance needs improvement
This course has a great layout but the fairways are rock hard, greens are not low mowed and painted green. The clubhouse is in terrible shape.
This course and it’s associated facilities need some serious TLC. A fantastic layout getting somewhat wasted
This course was player friendly
The course needs some TLC on the tee boxes and the greens. Overall, the course played well.
Nice layout
First time playing the course, greens were faster than we normally play but we loved it. Nice layout allowing a variety of shots. We will be back!
Rangers need to quit harrassing golfers
First time was on the 11th hole we were told to pick up our pace we were two holes behind, we told him we just played past the slow group and there was no one behind us. A few holes later the same ranger told us we were a hole behind and to pick up our pace. We all looked behind us and could not see the group behind us and told him we made up a hole since the last time. The third time a different ranger told us to pick up our pace because we were a hole behind, he then stated but you aren't holding anyone up. Then why are you telling us to pick up the PACE!!!!!!!!!!
A month ago the same ranger told us to pick up our pace while we were waiting on the group in front of us to get off the green...
I've played this course many times a year for the last 15 years and this is the first time I have been harrassed like this.
