Course is in pretty good shape since the last time I played they had just aerated the greens.
Course is challenging.
Enjoyed playing. Met a very friendly gentleman to play with. Ease of an out of town player setting up a round was great.
I enjoy this course - the diversity in the layout, the degree of difficulty is just about right for me (10-12 handicap. I mix the blue and white tees depending on the distance.
Pace of play can be slow - I like to play "ready-golf" makes everyone's experience more satisfying.
Course is in fairly good condition for Feb/March
Pretty Good Deal
Played the black tees and enjoyed the layout. Most holes have good shape, with fairway bunkers and a few water hazards. However, some holes have some poor design features IMHO, such as #9 and #11 which both have very large trees that block approach shots from the center or right side of the fairway (makes no sense to me). Hole #17 had a HUGE area of ground under repair right in front of the green (I'm sure this will be fixed once warmer weather comes).
I was disappointed to see they did not allow separate carts during COVID and did not have dividers. I decided to walk for this reason even though the deal included cart fee and I WOULD NOT walk this course again. There are a few lengthy walks between holes and some steep hills (the walk between #9 green and #10 tee about killed me, trying to keep up with the rest of my group who all rode).
All that said, I will definitely keep this course in my rotation of public courses to play...but only as a course to get a cart when playing.
Unimpressive and Disappointing!!!
Played here a few years ago and the course was immaculate. I don’t what has happened since. The greens were all chewed up, the tee boxes were atrocious and very little room to hit from. Not worth the money at all. I recommended going somewhere else like Mill Quarter Plantation or Providence Golf Club. It was very disappointing and the only bright spot on the day was one of the holes, maintenance was letting water pressure out of the pipes and it turned into a geyser.
Improving
Played this course and had allotted plenty of time to play. Good thing because the course was crowded and everyone must have been in no hurry to play a round. Totally ok though as the people I came across were super friendly and did not get mad at me or the staff for not pairing me up with someone. Relaxing day with my best 9 ever on the back. The front...meh but that just makes me want to go back again.
The greens were definitely in ok shape but considering it's already September, you can't expect too much. Still sandy. I love the signs that say "repair your ball mark and one other" but you can tell that most people aren't abiding by that request.
The staff at the end of the day were extremely friendly and were my biggest cheerleaders when I had told them about my best 9. I'm sure they shoot rounds like that all the time but it still was nice of them to acknowledge my accomplishment.
It had been awhile since I had golfed there and I forgot how fun this course is. Whether you're a beginner golfer or a little better than average this course won't overpower you and you'll have a great time chasing that little white ball around its fairways.
Here we go. The good: Staff at course is fantastic. If you want to support a local course with great people, this is it.
The bad/awful: Course is in terrible shape. Tee boxes were mostly mud and dirt. Greens (besides hole 10, 13 and 18) are simply miserable. Sand, divots, brown spots, horrible. No consistency putting, no pace, forget lining up the put. Ball will have a mind of it's own. Fairways as always very wet and long grass off the middle. No value if you pay the full price.
The pace: 5 and 1/2 hours to play a long and enduring round of golf. 4 sums that should be on the front tee's on the back. 2 sums, 3 sums and 4 sums scattered every where. The course was miserable but the time to play it was excruciating. Long painful round of golf.
Course layout is fun. Staff is great. Play the course but set your expectations in low gear.
Weekend Round
We enjoyed a ice round. Didn’t play well but it was not the courses fault. Nice mix of challenges.
Nice course
Nice course, decent fairways and greens were in great shape. A couple were challenging but fun to play. Fully enjoyed the day and this course!
Excellent shape - quick round
Course was excellent, best shape by far in year's. Pace was quick, 3.5 hours.
Birkdale
Course was in pretty good shape. Soggy in many places.
