Needs TLC
Love the layout at this tight course, but it isn’t a great experience. There are very pretty holes but also a handful of ugly holes. Fairways are in bad shape; greens were solid but slow.
Clubhouse guy was kinda rude. Weird they don’t take cash to buy a Gatorade. Zero water coolers on the course, zero ball wash stations. Signage is poor, and the tee markers look like they were cut with a butter knife and painted 40 years ago.
This course has SO MUCH potential in a historic Fairfax area, but they don’t put any love into the course.
As for the play, SO MANY blind shots. Thank goodness for 18 birdies app.
Price a bit high, a couple patches of bare ground but playable
A bit pricey for a late afternoon round. A couple of places turf needs to grow in but otherwise improving.

Have a good day!
Don’t know how you even call this a golf course.
Never written a review before but hopefully this can save some people some time/money. Easily the worst conditions I’ve ever seen, tee boxes fairways, greens, rough all in awful shape.
Saturday mid-morning was $80 on aerated greens and a 5+ hour round. I thought the staff was friendly so I can only surmise it’s run by greedy dishonorable owners.
In short this is someone who just stuck 18 flag sticks in a big yard and called it a golf course.
Not Worth the Money
I have played this course several times. The pace has always been slow but last night was absurd. They let a group of six go before my group of two early evening. We did not finish our round due to it becoming dark. Greens had been aerated which made putting extremely difficult. Bunkers need some love several looked like packed mud with others completely overgrown with grass and weeds.
I really want to like this course because it’s convenient for me to get to but there are others that are in better shape for far less money like Oak Creek in Maryland.
Penderbrook Golf Club,
Hello, thank you for taking time to review us. We looked back and saw that you had a tee time at 4:40pm which is during our twilight tee times. This means that there is a chance that you do not finish, sunset on your date of play was 8:03 and pace of play is set at 4:00. The groups in front of you were two threesomes who both had the tee times before you, we send groups out in order by tee time.
The tee time you book on GolfNow had an “aeration alert” on it which was to notify you that the greens had recently been aerated.
As far as the bunkers go, we renovated all of our bunkers except for two on hole 17, all other bunkers are in great shape.

Have a nice day
Very Nice, Recommended!
No complaints on this course and I’ve played it multiple times. Pace of play was great, good general course conditions, great greens, nice clubhouse and good price! Food/drink shack at the turn is great for the obligatory hot dog and whatever other refueling needs you may have. Fairways do sometimes have an odd “green-like” strip with different grass than the regular fairway, but it’s actually nicer grass to play off of, so I’m not complaining about it.
Hello, Thank you for taking time out to review us and we are glad you enjoyed playing Penderbrook Golf Club. We are in a multi-year process of switching our fairways over to warm season grasses, which are those new strips you have noticed. We have completed some fairways and looked to do more each year. Again, thank you for the review and we hope to see you back out soon! Penderbrook Golf Club
Quirky, decent and improving
I've played Penderbrook 5-6 times in 2022 with friends who have a regular group. Because the course is in the middle of a housing development in Reston/Herndon, it's a short course, with narrow fairways, some tight angles and short par 3s. Lots of forced carries over water. Precision is required on tee shots and approaches. I'm impressed by course conditions - it's obvious management is putting money into it. Bunkers have been restructured, some are now sod wall bunkers with steep lips, which provides an extra challenge. Tee boxes are in good condition and certain fairways are spongy, while others that get less sunlight can be patchy. Golf carts are new. Because my group always gets an early morning tee time, I've almost never had a problem with pace of play, but I note that many bunkers have been removed, perhaps to help pace of play and lower maintenance costs. Penderbrook's convenient location is also a plus. A downside is that there's no range. Overall a challenging course whose management seems to care about conditions.
Odd start
Started us on hole 8 which was strange. 8, 9, and 10 are a little tougher water holes, so not the best to begin a round on when you come in cold. Otherwise the course was in very nice shape and practically empty on a Tuesday around noon, so didn’t feel rushed or held up at all.
Penderbrook Golf Club,
Thank you for taking time out to leave your review and we are glad you enjoyed your experience!
Just a note about starting on Hole 8, we do this every Tuesday so that maintenance can have a head start on cutting the rough on the front 9. We understand it can be a challenging start but we hope you understand. Hole 10 is unfortunately a little further from the clubhouse, which is why we use #8 as the starting hole.
We look forward to seeing you out at Penderbrook Golf Club again soon!
Have a nice day
Cart
Golf club doesn't care of COVID as share cart with person who doesn't know even.
Penderbrook Golf Club, Hello, our cart policies are posted in each tee times notes before booking, in the booking policies that must be acknowledged and posted on our website as well. Each tee time includes one cart per two players, if a customer would like a single rider cart, there is a single rider cart fee which is the remaining half of our cart fee and based on availability. This is standard practice in the golf industry and is left to the customers discretion.
Have a nice day
Worst course ever
DO NOT ever come here. Terrible course. Significantly over priced. Conditions are crap. Rangers can’t speed up play at all. Overbooked just an overall terrible experience every time I come here
Penderbrook Golf Club,
Hello, we looked back at the GPS pace of play data for the date of your play and the longest round was 4:25, which on a busier Friday is acceptable pace, pace for the course is set at 4:00. Our tee times are 10 minutes apart and that is what we stick to, never more.
As far as the conditions of the course, we believe it is in extremely good conditions for this time of year, as you can see from the prior reviews. We have also upload recent pictures on google that show the current conditions.
If you feel like your experience was unique to yourself, please reach out to us to discuss it further at info@penderbrookgolfclub.com
Thank you

A good challenge if you want to pay for it.
This course is generally well maintained and the pace of play is good. It has a few too many blind shots for the tightness of the course but if you know your yardages you can score. I think the weekday prices are too high for the course but if you can get a great deal off GolfNow then it's worth the look.
Decent Course
Some holes were being repaired so there were some rough areas. Pace of play was very very slow. Some holes would have 2-3 groups backed up and I only saw a marshal on the course once. The ground was very hard in a lot of spots on the course.
Greens were in great shape and the par 3 greens were challenging. For the pace of play and some fairway conditions, the price was on the high side.
