Good All-Around Experience
Driving up to the bag drop-off, I was immediately met by friendly staff to grab my clubs. In fact, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. After paying in the pro shop, my partner and I didn't utilize the practice facility, the starter asked if we wanted to go off early so we opted to skip the driving range and putting green. From what I could tell however, the driving range looked pretty decent.
For a Sunday morning, there wasn't very many golfers so that was great regarding our pace of play. Everything from the tee boxes to greens were in pretty good shape, hardly any bare spots. This course is surrounded by homes so if your ball managed to stay in bounds or find the trees with those less than ideal shots, there wasn't much for hitting surface to get out of trouble. This is to be expected so this isn't a dig on the course at all.
Fairways were pretty good and consistent by setting your ball up for decent contact. Some areas of the fairways on each hole had some sparse grass but overall I give the fairways a "good" rating.
There was no water in any of the traps which was a nice surprise given they had quite a bit of rain the day before according to the starter. Trap sand was a little heavy because of the rain so I can't really rate the traps under dryer conditions, i.e., how fluffy they really are under ideal conditions.
Course layout was challenging (although the length from the whites was a little shorter than I like but my partner wanted to play the whites) in that there was plenty of water and fairway bunkers to deal with for errant shots.
The greens were in pretty good shape and held the ball nicely on approach/chip shots. Oddly enough, there were tons of non-repaired ball marks on the greens, I found myself repairing 3-4 ball marks in addition to the ones we made. I brought this up with the staff who were painfully aware of this and they stated they will bring this up with golfers before they start their rounds. Green speed was average, i.e., a little slower than I usually like but they were consistent and each of the greens had challenging breaks to them. In other words, not hard to 3-putt on those long putts.
19th hole was nice as well, the clubhouse has a nice pub and restaurant for grabbing a beer/bite. The course didn't have anyone driving a beer/food cart which would have been nice but I can understand that given the lack of golfers on the course. We finished our round as a 2-some in about 4 hours, that's taking into account a slower back nine where we waited at every tee box so that's still outstanding in my book.
Overall I definitely recommend this course as one of the better public course values in the Flagler/Volusia county area here in FL. .
Course in real good shape. Greens consist. Played with a pair of resident, very nice people.
Not really a big deal I was expecting to see more water to deal with On a Florida course.
Good Course to Play
Everything you expect from a quality golf course sums up Halifax. From being greeted by the staff, using the driving range, to teeing it up on number one. Pace was excellent (Monday), course challenging, and greens rolling true. Only hiccup was the blue tee box. Not level and needed a trim.
Staff on course/pro shop not friendly not welcoming at all. Lots of older men who seemed annoyed to have us there.
Great course but
The pace was so bad we left after 15th hole , backed up three groups! Who puts that many people on a course at the same time !!!
Often I read reviews and I notice that some players try to find something, big or small, to complain about. To be honest I probably have done so in the past. One of the best things you can say about a golf course is that the whole experience was solid and satisfying. The course made it a point to make your round as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. Halifax does that. From letting us out early to making sure our round went along without any problems Halifax checked all the boxes. For a great golf experience head over and enjoy this course.
Nice Course for Golfnow price.
This is a classic Florida housing development course, without the frequent water hazards. Fairways were nice and wide, traps were in good shape. The greens were a bit slow, but the undulations and pin placements were fun. We played in the afternoon, done in 3 hours. Only appeared to be one other 3-some on the course, and they let us play through. Would go again at the hot deals price.
Save your money
Although I only played 11 holes
Course was in terrible shape
Greens were bad a lot of patches
Fairways weee good
Some tee boxes were not level especially from the blue markets.
Better courses in the area to play
I do not mean that this is a tricked up course,I mean it is surprising to see a course of this design, over close to the ocean. This course reminds me of one you would see in the rolling hills of the western side of the state.Large greens and wide fairways define this course with as compared to courses in this area where water is more prevalent.Play this course especially with the Golfnow rates.
#1 in Volusia
Great condition and layout. Greens are 90% after last months maintenance but run consistent. We play the lpgas, the Rive, the Riverbend around here and the trio of Venetian, ,Spruce and Cypress around orange. Halifax is #1
Good conditions easy play
Halifax is a lot of fun and easy to manage your game with respect to club selection and strategy.
Good value for very playable course
This isn’t the most picturesque course but it is a goodbye value and very playable. No real signature hole(s) but the course was in good condition. It does drain well, it poured last night and all the greens were firm and there were only a few spots of standing water. Greens were slow, sand was still a little wet, and the bermuda rough was up due to all the rain, putting a premium on hitting fairways and greens. The fairways are wide and greens mostly big so this is a good course for high handicappers, assuming you pick the right tees. As several reviewers have said, many of the tee boxes could use some work to level them, or at least set the tees on more level areas. If there is one real gripe, that would be it. The price was right and pace of play was right on at 4 hrs. Will play again for sure.
Fun Course layout in good condition
Snack bar does not open until 10:00 am so if you have an early tee time, make sure to take your own snacks and drinks. Make sure to take bug spray, the mosquitoes are crazy thick on the course. I dealt with two different people in the pro shop. One gentleman was FANTASTIC and the other gentleman was not near as nice and helpful.
The tee boxes have lots of mounds and valleys so you will not have a flat stance or lie on the tee boxes.
There are lots of neat and pretty rock formations throughout the course which are neat and interesting.
The fairways are wide and lush
The rough is very thick full. It is a challenge to get out of the rough and onto the green as it should be when you are off the fairway.
The greens were on the slow side, but they were very smooth and ran true. Once you are used to the slower speed, they are great and have very few non-repaired ball marks.
There was no Marshall at all (Labor Day holiday) and there was a group of 4 which was two groups ahead that were VERY slow. At one time on a par 5 there was the slow group on the green, a group in the fairway and my group and two other groups waiting on the tee box. 5 groups of four on one hole because there was a group of four that were crazy slow and no course Marshall at all to speed them along on a busy labor day holiday.
Golf course in good shape and a mixture of good holes.Blue tees could use some leveling.Overall good value, staff friendly.
