TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course
About
The world renowned Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is the first course of its kind. Built with the intention of being home to THE PLAYERS, it was created for spectators. It was designed as the first stadium-style golf course, offering fans clear and stunning views. The challenging layout is routed so that no two consecutive holes ever play in the same direction. Traditional Scottish links-style bunkers, sandy waste areas, and water hazards that come into play on every hole make the Stadium Course even more interesting. There are also hundreds of oaks, pines, and palms throughout the course. One of the most widely known, and feared, holes in golf is No. 17, notorious for its treacherous island green.

I dove in the waters surrounding the 17th green. Gordon Davis, who's been the diver there for 20 years, was my guide. No gators, just golf balls. A lot of golf balls. Photo submitted by MattGinellaGA on 05/02/2014

Who doesn't like TPC Sawgrass!?!
This course was way more challenging than it appears on TV. Some of the lies around the green are very challenging. Hitting the fairways are very important because hitting it in the tough my lead to a layup. 17 is a walk in the park despite playing 17 and 18 in the dark.
Great facility and the course layout is fantastic.
The course was undergoing some routine golf requirements, so the fairways and greens were not in perfect condition. That being said, it was not bad and the layout is fun and challenging. I would definitely play again and would like to see it when it is perfect condition. The club house and facilities are second to none.
I mean...come on...it's sawgrass...
Pristine condition, super friendly staff treats you like royalty, amazing food/happy hour at the clubhouse...ill definitely be back.
Many Tees under construction, otherwise, great course!
Many of the back and "one-up" tees are under construction, and not in use. Also, there is nowhere to practice short game (wedges) beyond the driving range.
Otherwise, the course was in great shape, the staff was quite friendly, and the course was challenging, as always. Surprised at the shortage of carts. This required me to schlep my clubs around from practice green to practice tee until a few minutes before my tee time, when my cart was provided. Price is a little steep, but being a premier course, c'est la vie!
What a course. Brutally tough!
The course was in great shape. I had heard they resurfaced the greens and fairways one month prior to our tee time, but I couldn't tell. Great shape! Greens were very smooth. I believe a 9 on the stimp meter. Not overly fast, but plenty fast enough. What a great day. Our caddy, Jason, knows this golf course like the back of his hand. Big help on the brutal greens. The greens are just very difficult to read.
experience of a lifetime
This course is no cream puff. Even with your A game you can blowup on any given hole if u dont hit right shot. I have never played a pro course except in mexico at mayakoba....and this is 10xs harder than that. Without a caddie u would be dead in the water. The rough is bermuda grass....the most u can hit out of it is a 6iron. Even my caddie said the pros can only get 5iron at most out of. If u get lucky and ur ball doesnt sink down.....u have a fair chance to hit a hybrid/5 wood/long iron....hut u have to hit it perfecto...otherwise its a chunk shot. I am still mezmorized by experience. We got rain delay for 2 hrs and only got the front side in....we are going back wed and they start everyone on wed off the back side.....bring someone to take pictures for u. Only $34 for a rider....and they will have a once in a lifetime experience as well. Plan for hot humid weather in summer...they have towels and water and anything u need. The proshop is like walking into dicks sporting goods...except all golf...all tpc sawgrass apparel. Caddie named Phil....awesome job.....I am sure all caddies are..but u neverknow...highly reccommend him if you go. We are requesting him for wednesday. Plan for 5hr round...thats only because carts have to stay on path...caddie tells u yardage your ball is out...readsall the greens for you...so nice tip highly recomme nded for job he does for u. Everything from pulling your cart up...grabbing u a club....cleaning ur club....raking all traps...fixing all divots made into green. I fould go on for days......my best way to finish this is this.......this is the golf players dream....likena kid at disney world. I am about a 12 handicap......I shot 50 from the blended tee option. This is a mix of the blue/white tees.....champions tees arent available for the public. And trust me...they are really only there for the pros. Golf now is the only way I would book ttime there. Especialy cause if u get rained out.....they are awesome....I will leave it at that. They take care of your fees and any money back. I hope when u go it does nit rain.....because price during off season.....which is july/august in florida.....you cant beat it. It was on my bucket list in life to play one pro course in united states....and we vacation to daytona annually in july.....once in a lifetime experience you will not regret. So stop hesitating and book ur round ir you are thi king about it. You onky live this life here once....then only God knows whats in store for me/you after that. Amen and amen.
TPC Gem
Great course near the beaches just south of Jacksonville. A Must play when in the area and a really challenging lay out.
I love this course!
Many times I have watched The Players and absolutely enjoy playing this course!
BRING YOUR "A" GAME
I crossed off a destination on my golf bucket list when I played the stadium course. I played it shortly after "The Players", and the stands were still being taken down. This was by far the hardest track I ever played. If you don't hit fairways and greens, it can be a nightmare. The rough, even around the greens was diabolical. I managed to par the front side par 3's but that was all. 16, 17 & 18 are just how I imagined. It took 3 shots to get on 17 but I got there! This is a must for any avid golfer!
Kind of a disappointment
I played the stadium course the 15th of June. I was very excited to play this course because of how famous it is. After purchasing the hot deal tee time for over $300, I arrived at the course. As I was driving up I noticed that the number one fairway seemed abnormally brown. Then I went inside to check in. The employee was very nice but he told me that they had sprayed a chemical on the fairways to kill all the grass so basically the fairways were dead grass and hadn't been watered or anything so they were hard as well. The course is having a major overhaul on the 17th so they have basically just let the grass die with no cares. The frustrating part is we were not told that they had done this til we got there. The fairways were awful! It was very disappointing. There is no way that this course should charge $410 for a non hot deal time when their fairways are dead! Another downside was our round took 5 hours and 45 minutes because we waited at every shot. Other than that, I had a great time because the layout if the course is fantastic. I would definitely recommend playing this course a couple months down the road after they do maintenance on it because it is a fun course to play!
AS SEEN ON TV
Early afternoon four some. After check in we were told the driving range closed, due to complete renovation. Since we drove an hour & twenty minutes we did not have much to do until tee time. They had 4 nets to hit into by the first tee for your warm ups.
All other amenities were good, water, towels bag tag. You must take a fore caddie, I had two over two rounds, one very good & the other not so good. They expect a rate of $40 per player for reading greens, raking bunkers, filling divots
The course is a great fun layout, but to enjoy it don't go and play the tips. Fairways very plush, but watch out for not repaired divots.
The rough must be avoided, the ball goes deep, hard to find and plan on wedging out. Bunkers and tees in good shape, the tee on the par three 13 in very bad shape. Now the greens were firm and running fast. Many had repairs with newly installed plugs, now that the TPC event is over they begin airification on June 17-June 29 the the third and final time. I would not advise going then, even for the discount rate of $225.
The course is has it all, but only as once in a life time treat . Especially at the rack rate of $410 + tax+caddie+bag staff & locker room attendants .
If you decide to go a camera is a must.
Oh, one other annoyance was the crews are taking down the stands and are quite noisy.
Exactly what I expected
I am now able to check something else off my Bucket List after playing the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. After attending The Players Championship a few times, I had always wanted to play the famous course, especially the island green at #17, and it did not disappoint. I clearly did not have the chops to play this course competitively, however our group caddy did his best to help the entire group with tips and advice, especially around the greens. If you ever have the opportunity to play the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, do not hesitate.
TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course an experience to remember!
You have to play this place at least once in your lifetime. The course layout is spectacular and is maintained as good as it gets. Staff is extremely friendly making you feel confortable. Our round lasted a little longer than normal as we were booked with a father and his 13 year old daughter and 15 year old son. Sofie the 13 year old shot an 84 and I am sure the son was in the ballpark, father was coaching along the way. Pin placement was exactly as that of the final day at the 2013 Players Championship.
This course is Awesome!
Amazing course and staff. Course in great condition.
Greens had issues but other than that it was great
Greens had issues but other than that it was great
great layout shame the greens are so so bad
the course is a great layout i would play it again in a heartbeat after the greens are fixed. the faiways are good but then i would go back after seeing greens and demand my money back. you can go to st johns country club for 1 fourth the money and see great cond.
Good if you can get a deal but greens need work
Course was playing short, many tees were forward and that helped as we could skip the driver on a few holes. Course is difficult but fair, narrow but with a bit of room for error on most holes but not all. Greens on the back nine were in pretty good shape with a few spots but on the front they were in rather terrible condition. Green #1 is half dirt, half grass, no kidding, and is the worst on the course. Beverage cart was just the right frequency. Overall for the discounted price we paid I think it was fair, not worth the rack rate though for the condition of the greens.
Great Course
I played the TPC at Sawgrass Stadium course the week after the Players Tournament. The grand stands on 16 and 17 were still up. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had on a golf course. I birdied 16 and when making the walk around the pond to the 17th tee box was an extremely cool experience. I would suggest everyone to go play the Stadium course at least once.
great course
I had good day and a bad day. I was pared with 3 other players and while I was warming up on the practice range the person I was on the cart with, took my clubs off the cart and put them on the grass at the chipping green. When confronted by the Marshall, he said he didn't want another player on his cart. I ended up playing by myself. The rest of the day was a great experience, but the start of it almost caused me to leave. I will go back but will only play with someone I know.
Tiptoe around the Stadium course with the utmost respect
The first time I played the Stadium Course roughly 10 years ago I remember genuine fear standing on the tee of the 17th hole. Plunk in the water. The second time I played the home of The Players Championship about five years ago came dreams of pure revenge. I wanted to prove to Pete Dye that I was good enough for his treacherous design. I still got manhandled. The third time I play it, I plan to approach the round with the utmost respect. As a target-style test of golf, there might not be a more exacting course in the game.
I think 'Stadium' only rewards those who play within themselves. Don't let Dye trick you into pulling driver when only 3-wood is necessary. Don't even look at the pin on any hole, especially the par-3s. Just shoot for the center of the greens. I'm hoping this new approach proves the old adage of "third time is a charm" to be true.
