Slammer and Squire Golf Course at World Golf Village
About
World Golf Village is home to 36 challenging holes of championship golf. The Slammer & Squire Course is named after the two World Golf Hall of Fame legends, Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen, who served as consultants to the course's designer, Bobby Weed. The golf course is known for its tricky par-3 holes and the carefully preserved beauty of the landscape. Its traditional layout meanders through native flatwoods and hardwood hammocks, running alongside wetland preserves and a wildlife habitat. The scenic Slammer & Squire Course features contoured greens and gently rolling, generous fairways. There is also an abundance of water on the golf course in the forms of lakes and marshes.

Surprisingly soggy
The course was surprisingly wet -- despite the fact that the area has not had an overabundance of rain in the past week or so. I played the day before at another JAX-area course, and there were no wet spots. The wet conditions were only half of the battle. Once I finally found the course (you would think that if World Golf Village can afford TV advertising it could afford more than two directional signs to Slammer and Squire), the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. As for the course, interesting layout, visually attractive and challenging enough (though not particularly long unless you play from the tips). Other observation was the relatively slow speed of the greens. This is the time of year when the greens all over JAX speed up. Not here though. I would like to play here again, but it will have to be during a prolonged dry spell.
What a beautiful location
The day was perfect and so was the course. Everything was in great shape! My brothers are coming to town next week and we definitely will be playing here.
Very nice course conditionsT
This is definitely a very nice course . However, the regular price of $95 is a little too high for my tastes. With a Hotdeal from Golfnow.com, I got on for $35. The staff was friendly, the course conditions were very good, and had it not been for the wet conditions that caused us to use "cart path only", this would have been perfect. Great resort next door, too.
Fun course , joy to play.
I have played the Slammer & Squire four times now and have enjoyed playing very much. Golf Now has made the price possible to play for an old guy on a fixed income. I hope they keep it up so I can play some more. Every golfer should enjoy playing at least once so you can play it again.
Fun course , joy to play.
Course was well cared for and spacious giving you some room for minor errant shots. Greens were somewhat quick but adjustments will give you a better chance to make some putts. Liked the course very much. Will play again.
Great Fun
We enjoyed playing the Slammer and Squire. It was in great condition. The greens were very fast, so really had to adjust play!! Lunch at the Legends was really fun.
Great Course, soggy fairways
First, there was a great deal on Golfnow. It was 11:57 and first tee time after a tournament made turn. They were running an hour behind and starter graciously asked and strongly suggested we get out early to avoid getting stuck behind group. It was admirable the way they looked out for us. I got paired with an avid golfing couple from St. Aug, Don and Miss Vickie, that were a joy to play with.
Fairways and valleys were soft and soggy. We had lots of plugged and muddy balls. It would have been good to get an advisory from starter or golf shop. Otherwise great experience again st WGV.
Punched
Even though the entire course had been punched, I love this course!
Highly recommend for golfers
Beautiful golf course in excellent condition! Fun to play. Friendly staff. We will definitely come back again!
Fun Course with Challenging Layout
This course lives up to its hype. It has all that look for in a course Fast greens, wide fairways that provide a good challenge from both tee shots and approach shots. The course was in great shape when I played and pace of play was kept up throughout the round. Staff was friendly, and very reasonable with situations presented. All in all a great course to play.
World Golf Gem #2
Slammer and Squire is a very fun, challenging course. It is always in fantastic shape. Another of the N. Florida gems.
All around great
As expected the course was in great shape. We caught a great deal online. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens were all in top shape. Only complaint of the day was having two balls pancake and sink down into green side bunkers from iron shots out of the fairway (I know, why would I hit it in there in the first place). Pace of play was outstanding and the course offers a great mix of layouts throughout the 18. Good views on 9 and 18 coming up to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Pace of play needs to be improved
This is a great course. It is well maintained and challenging. Friendly, helpful staff. However, the three times that I have played here the pace of play was an issue. A lot of waiting behind slower groups. I think the rangers could be a little more forceful in getting groups to speed up. I will be returning because I do enjoy the course layout.
Great Course
The course, was,in great shape as usual. Only complaint was the green were slow.
