Off-Season Bliss
At this time of year a mid day round is paradise golf. I teed off as a single and I saw no one on the front side. On the back side I ran into a 2 some who promptly and kindly waved me through. So pace of play was superb at 2.5 hours for 18. This is especially good for senior golfers when the heat index can easily reach the upper nineties. The course is in pretty good shape despite the prolonged drought this season. I really like the course layout with many water penalty areas and tree-lined fairways. Play from the white tees (6000 yds) doesn't play overly long during dry conditions but it still requires proper fairway placement due to a varied collection of both left & right doglegs. There are two fairways that have a hazard that runs across the fairway which forces a carry or a layup decision. I find that exciting. The greens are slower than I prefer but they run true. The bunkers are in very good shape. Overall, this is a great value for the privilege of playing quick summer rounds on a challenging layout. Highly recommend in the off season.. Practice range uses artificial green pads but nice nonetheless for a pre-round warm up.
Everything great
I gave 5 stars for value although we didn't pay course pricing...had a special deal....
A Great Value & Fun Golf
At this time of year Serenoa is pleasure to play. The course is in decent condition and after 12 pm the course is generally wide open allowing for a single or a two-some to play 18 in under 3 hours. When I did run into slower players they invited me to play through which is more often an uncommon courtesy on public courses. I like the driving range and practice green for warm up. The carts are nice with touch-sensitive GPS & course layout screens. Greens ran slow but true. The fairways need seasonal showers to improve the current dry conditions but this is true at all local golf courses at this time. It is a pleasure to play at Serenoa and a very good Golfnow value.
A Fun Golf Experience
The entire staff was both friendly and helpful. The driving range uses mats and a self-help ball dispenser for $5. They have plenty of practice targets and hitting a few shots always helps as a warm up. I really liked the course layout with a great mix of both left & right dog legs. The greens were being kept rather slow but rolled true. The defense of the course is provided by water on most holes and by the small but sloping greens. Trees on the left & right frame most of the tee shots but the course doesn't play overly tight. Strategic positioning off the tee box is critical for the best chance at hitting the small greens in regulation. The fairway turf was relatively tight but most lies were pretty good.nonetheless. Many of the chipping areas surrounding the greens were pretty good as well. It has been extra dry this season and like most other area courses, it needs some rain. I give the tee ground area a C+. The turf grass was sparse on some tees and a few uneven lies. Serenoa is not a long golf course but it's lay out presents a number of fun challenges. A great value and I will definitely play there again.
A new experience
SERENOA is a better quality golfcourse today. Short but still challenging to play. Nozhimg to do with the golf but the free beer was a nice gesture
improved place
Have not played SERENOA for a long time. suprised to see the improved quality of fairways and greens. Free
beer was a nice gesture. Very friendly staff all the way.
Pleasantly surprised...
Had heard things about this course that caused me to choose other options in the area. Not the case...conditions are better than other courses in the area charging the same or more. Clubhouse staff, and restaurant staff were AMAZING. Greens were a little slow, but it looks like they may not cut greens on Sunday, which is the case at many courses. All in all, I would recommend Serenoa to anyone who wants to play a really great golf course. Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews, they are working really hard at making this a fantastic golf course, and it shows.
