River Marsh Golf Club - Hyatt Chesapeake Bay
About
The Hyatt River Marsh Golf Club is Maryland's leading Eastern Shore golf course. The classic design incorporates challenging elements including sculpted bunkers and mature trees but balances them with wide, player-friendly fairways and inviting greens. Water has a prominent presence on the course with Shoal Creek meandering through the course and the Choptank River serving as a backdrop to many of the greens. The riverside golf course has the look and feel of a seaside links course. The final two holes are the golf course's most memorable. The par-3 17th requires a dramatic carry over Shoal Creek to a large green strategically guarded by three bunkers. The 17th is a challenging and scenic hole but it only sets the scene for Hyatt River Marsh Golf Club's final hole. Touted as one of the best holes in the Mid-Atlantic region, this classic risk-reward par 5 has a bunker and the Choptank River running its entire length.

Mixed feelings
The first time I played there was off season, but I was still impressed with the course condition, namely it’s beauty and medium-fast greens. I’m not arguing against the layout which would impress anyone exposed to higher end golf courses. What they did with the natural terrain and vegetation is certain to impress any visitor let alone a golfer. The views were impressive, especially the signature 17th and 18th holes of pars 3 & 5 respectively. The par 3 shot is over water until it lands on the green after a 200 yard carry, and the par 5 follows the Choptank river bordered on the left side while the hotel maintains its invitation to observe it up close as you approach the green. Rooms for improvement are in some of the fairways and tee boxes as they have been dried out and balded by a lack of watering or allowed to be saturated by partly swampy conditions in some areas. One tee box was completely bare of grass as it was surrounded by tall trees except the opening toward its fairway. To be fair the course must be visited more than once a year to be evaluated to gain a comprehensive understanding of how it’s managed; nevertheless, if repeat customers is the goal, they must be more diligent with the maintenance of this attractive course as the first impression elicits from its brochure.
This course is getting worse
This use to be one of my favorite courses to play in Maryland. Last year was the first year there were three or four of the fairways that were in poor condition and the rest were in average condition at best. This year most of the fairways were in below average condition and several of them the grass was so sparse in places you had to roll your ball just to find grass to hit off of. The greens were aerated about a week and half ago and we were told that before we played. Overall they were in good shape. Really like the layout of the course. Just hope they put the necessary work into the fairways to bring this course back to the condition it was just a couple years ago.

Thursday afternoon 1:48. Greens are very nice, bunkers very nice. Tee Boxes had little too many weeds, along with the fairways. Overall Good.
Anniversary round on a hot day
Love playing this golf course. Great views, challenging holes, never too crowded and close to one of our favorite resorts the Hyatt Regency.
The course was in good shape with some spotty fairways, but overall, it was a great experience. The greens were in excellent shape.
Max is a solid dude
Max behind the counter is a solid dude with engaging conversational skills. Hole 17 is quirky with the pier tee box and that mind you is a good talking point. If that box can be tweaked a bit too allow a tee to freely in pail the turf would be a nice touch but not sure it is environmentally economically fees able. Out of managements control has to be the ball marks on the green as those that have played a considerable amount of time passed failed to fix hardly any of them. A starter or announcement of who is on the tee and who is on deck couldn’t hurt either but all in all the scenery that accompany holes such as 18 might allow players to forget the negatives.
Too Hot to Handle
Got a great rate with golf app deal and course was in great shape. Wide fairways, lots of bunkers (with good sand), and the greens were nice. Enjoyed the layout, especially the last two holes (over water on 17, and along the river on 18). The only negative was the weather… it felt like 106 degrees. I would definitely play again on a slightly cooler day.
Weird experience
This is an expensive course, not just the golf, but everything in the club house including golf balls ($44 for logo-ed up Cally Super Soft non-premium balls, etc). We played at 4pm and got stuck behind a foursome wearing jerseys and tube tops who took a basket of range balls out on the course and were hitting multiple shots from the same spot. After waiting 15 min to tee off on 5 we just skipped the hole thinking of we passed them we wouldn’t see them again, until they drove up past the tee box on 6 and just skipped the hole to get ahead of us again? There were a ton of unfixed divots in the fairways and unfixed pitch marks on the green. The bunkers were completely washed out and some were openly under construction. Other parts of the course were also under extensive construction. This course has the ingredients to be great, but isn’t being taken care of, and for the money, isn’t doing its part to protect the course and isn’t worth it.
