Rio Secco
About
Designed by Rees Jones and Keith Evans, Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson affords great views of the Las Vegas Strip below as golfers try to find the course's tricky bentgrass greens. Said greens can be difficult to read, and if you find yourself above the hole, two-putts become a real challenge. One of the most talked about holes, the 200-yard par-3 12th, plays over a valley to a large green that slopes severely from back to front. Back pin positions are difficult, but a front location can yield aces as everything seems to funnel to that spot. Rio Secco is also home to the Butch Harmon School of Golf.

Rio Secco Golf Club: Golf and gambling in Henderson
The home of the 2012 and 2013 Wendy's 3Tour Challenge roams the scenic foothills of the Black Mountain Range, offering views of the Strip. It's my favorite course in Las Vegas not named Wynn, Cascata or Shadow Creek.
The 7,313-yard course opened in 1997. Box canyons and cliffs make this Rees Jones design quite a chore to score upon.
Golfers can buy into the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge at the tough par-3 seventh hole. An ace in qualifying affords three shots for the grand prize every year.
Butch Harmon's original golf school calls Rio Secco home.
Great Experience
I played Rio Secco on February 26th. I found the course to be in very good shape, the staff was exceptionally friendly, and the overall experience was excellent.
It is a little bit of a drive from the Strip hotels but it is money and time well spent.
Rio Secco is a beautiful golf course! The course has a variety of holes configured it a way to make it challenging but playable. Some beautiful views from several holes of the LV Strip. We had slow greens on the front nine as it was wet from light rains and the sun came out and dried the greens out on back nine and were much faster. Overall staff was very friendly and would definitely play here again.
The course layout was excellent, and the staff was very friendly. But, all the greens were damaged by ball marks and golf spikes. The pace of golf was slower than other courses in Las Vegas I played.
Beautiful course, and very challenging
A beautiful course with lots of elevation changes, true greens that are fast but wont kill you.
Staff are very helpful.
We played 3 courses on our trip, this was our favourite
Great staff, beautiful course in great condition
This is a beat challenging course. Great options for from various tee boxes
Slow Play
Our tee time was at 1:10pm and we only finished 16 holes by 6:30pm because the pace of play was so slow. The course is absolutely beautiful but definitely not worth $250 for a round that take 5+ hours...
Good day at Rio Secco
Overall course was in good condition from tee to green on this day. Pace of play was 4 hours 40 minutes on weekday. Staff was very friendly. Overall a decent value for non-resident and would recommend.
Wolf Creek Lite
Vegas trip for work with friend, played Wolf creek, Bali Hai, Rio Secco. For the price, approx $250 a round, it’s comparable to Wolf Creek and about 30 minutes outside the strip. Beautifully maintained tee boxes, greens, and fairways. I refer to it as Wolf Creek lite as the views are fantastic but not as grandiose as WC. Great clubhouse and bar area, snacks on the turn, free tees and ball markers, friendly staff, great full length driving and putting range unlike WC or Bali Hai which offer irons only driving range and/or a netted hitting area. If I could play Rio Secco twice and skip Bali Hai I would’ve for the value alone. A+
Accommodation
Unfortunately our navigation took us to the Rio hotel seven tho it said Rio Secco golf course so make sure you are going to Henderson and not Las Vegas. Even tho we were late to our tee time the staff was accommodating on getting us out. We didn't use the range or practice area but it looked very nice. We played as a two some so we waited a little bit of the group in front of us but that is expected as a twosome. We were still able to play in 4 Hours in 20 minutes and I only lost one ball. course was in great shape. green where a little slow but rolled at a 10. so if you don't like lightning fas greens this a a good course. Staff was great from check in to leaving. Great views of Las Vegas and the house on the courses are so high up that they were never in any endanger of getting hit by a stray ball.
Not so friendly staff
For the last 5 years, we’ve been to vegas every summer for our annual golfing trip. I have never experienced anything like we have experienced at Rio Secco.
As we all know, golf is a tough sport and it can get the best of us. We have friends that are newer to golf and shoots in the high 90s, very typical for the average golfer. Being new to the course and not playing at our best, it took a bit more time to look for balls and play each hole. On this particular day, the marshal visited us and was rude from the start which isn’t vegas hospitality like. We were slow and he wanted us to hurry up which I understood but the way he said it and talked to us was very judge mental and condescending. He followed us to make sure we picked up the pace, left and then came back a few holes later and did the same thing. It’s like we were being yelled at for not being good at golf, we’re here for a fun golf trip n ended up leaving on the 14th hole disappointed. We paid 150$ to get yelled at and only played 14 holes.
So the moral of the story is: if you’re not a scratch golfer, this place isn’t for you because you will get talked down to and followed because you suck at golf. They’re more worried about pace of play over customer experience….
It’s in great condition all around.
Came to enjoy a round with my lady. She really had a great time, course was in great condition. Price wise, it’s Vegas so you gotta pay to play. But definitely recommend if you come to play here anytime soon. Free range balls with paid round. Cart has iced cooler with 2 water bottles in each. Very needed. Play early and enjoy!
Great course
Great golf course in excellent condition. Interesting layout, greens rolled really well.
