Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Always first class
I always have a great experience from the beginning to the end. The courses are always in top condition and the surrounding views are unmatched. Everyone should play when in Vegas.
We braved the wind and the cold
Windy and cold but worth it!!! We could only do 9 holes instead of 18, they told us that they would give us a rain check for the other 9 but golf now will have to call them to verify. Great customer service, friendly, helpful!
Course was well manicured.
Long and fast
Long compared to Wolf and Snow. Tough to check approach shots, bc the greens a rock hard.
Terrific
Very nice resort type course. In fantastic shape. Greens were perfect running around 11 or so and very true. Highly recommend
friendly staff, great conditions
Booked based on some reviews on reddit - and could not have been more pleased. course conditions were fantastic and the starter, marshal and pro-shop employees could not have been more hospitable and friendly. Will be coming back when I'm back in Vegas.
Pace was horrible
The course was in PERFECT condition however the pace was so slow it was a 5:15 round and no a single marshal came out to do anything about it. the greens were wicked fast and conditions were perfect.
What a deal!!!
Got the Hot Deal from golf now. It’s the best rate you can get for non-resident. The course was amazing and surprisingly not windy when I played. I’m sure it will get tougher with the wind. It’s well worth the 40 minutes drive from the strip. The facilities are excellent specially it’s in the middle of nowhere.
Great course
Wind gust to 40 mph took a little away from experience but still appreciated the natural beauty and superb conditions. My only criticism of this beautiful facility is the carts are sooo slow and seats are all duct taped on the corners. They need to be replaced.
Great outing
The course was immaculate the pace of play was just over 4 hours. Highly Recommend any of the 3 courses there.
Great Experience
This was the second of the 3 courses at Paiute I have played. They are a must play when traveling to Las Vegas.
Awesome
The course is always in great shape.. it was a busy day so I have no problem, but it took almost 30 minutes to get my clubs from the checkin so that was the only concern I had.. still my favorite course in vegas
Must play when in Vegas!
It makes you wonder just how much maintenance goes into these courses. They are immaculate. I wish we had these courses in CA. Great layout, great staff, great weather (92 degrees with moderate wind), great food, amazing scenery in the middle of the desert. We will be back to play the WOLF/SNOW. MUST MUST play.
Desert golf in a beautiful course
Paiute GC was a mind blowing experience in terms of beauty, challenge, design, conditions and views! Played the course with my wife and walked the each hole & fairways simply to admire the nature's beauty.
I recommend this course for everyone who would like to play a round in a memorable golf course.
