Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Terrible Conditions
The course is in terrible shape. Run down, same as last year. The golf carts have to be from the 90s and will hurt your back after 18 holes. Pace of play was horrible and to make matters worse, the group in front was drunk and acting stupid. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice and shame on me. There will not be a third time.
Greens and fairways a disaster
Nice layout and friendly staff but the greens and fairways are covered in fungus, physical damage and ball marks. The range balls look like they came from a dumpster. $100 for a non resident is stealing. What a shame.
Hi Matthew,

Please don’t waste your time here. The course is in terrible shape.
Hi RSimon,
Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We’re disappointed to hear that our course conditions wasn’t exactly to your liking. We hope you give us another chance soon to share an even more positive experience.
Back 9 Only?
I couldn’t believe that they only had the back 9 only open without having some sort of notification on “Golf Now” giving us a heads up. The green fees were still the same as if the whole course was open. Not to mention, they didn’t book any differently so by the time we got to the back 9 for a 2nd time, it was really backed up with new groups. It was maddening.
Hi John,
We are sorry that you are disappointed but appreciate your feedback. We are committed to providing you with a great experience and hope you give us another chance in the future.
Thank you for your rating, and we hope to see you back again soon!
Staff Nice, Course needs help
First time playing this course, will not be back. Staff is very nice but the course really needs some improvements. Tee boxes are not flat and have slopes. fairways are decent but the greens are horrendous. They just give excuses but funny how other nicer courses don’t have this issue with the greens. They’ll never ever spend the money to improve it because enough people keep playing it. Don’t know why because there are so many other better courses and better value.
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We do have an action plan in place for recovery. We value your input and will take it into consideration for future improvements.
First time golfing in Las Vegas area
My girlfriend and I are somewhat new to golf. We have only been golfing 18 holes for the past few months and thought it would be fun to have as a part of our trip to Las Vegas. We searched for courses that appeared to a good fit, not too expensive and yet very beautiful setting. We seemed to get a little lucky in having some overcast and a light breeze through about 12 holes before the heat really set in. I love the grass here as it seems to be resilient to divets. The greens is where most of the work could be done. Perhaps it is due to the heat. It was surprising that there were no safety nets surrounding the driving range area and the first tee. I am not sure if these are not allowed, or the appearance would not be approving. You definately do not want to walk this course in the heat. The fairways were well kept. Seemed a little expensive for the experience.
Hi Brian,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're glad you enjoyed the beautiful setting and resilient grass. We appreciate your feedback about the greens and safety nets, and we'll take it into consideration for future improvements. We hope to welcome you back soon!
Thank you for the great rating. If there are any details you’d like to share about what we are doing well, we’d love to learn more!
Good time
It was dead out there because of heat I assume. The course is in good shape with exception of a few greens. I believe disease is issue. Bartender, cart attendant and pro shop employees were all quite professional and friendly. The price was good ($50 pre-GN discount). I will play again.
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're glad to hear that you found our staff professional and friendly. We apologize for any issues with the greens and will address this concern. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to having you back on the course soon.
Used to be great
I used to play this course all the time when I lived closer. Went there because I had not played in a while. Almost every green is destroyed making putting consisyently impossible. The course was empty when I played so we never had anyone infront of or behind us allowing us to set our own pace. The course should not be charging full price when conditions on their greens are as terrible as they are OR atleast give a warning that they are that bad.
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We apologize for the condition of our greens during your visit, and we do have a plan in place for recovery. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as we strive to improve.
Bad conditions
Greens were so bad. Hard to even try to putt. Cart paths in terrible condition. Tee box's were in bad shape. 30 other courses in Vegas in better shape.
Hi Chris,
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the less-than-ideal experience you had. We strive to provide excellent conditions for our golfers and will address the issues you mentioned. We hope you'll give us another chance to exceed your expectations in the future.
Greens Unplayable
I'm a local and have always liked the course layout however the greens are done. Diseased looking, they are horrific. Rest of course is ok considering it's summer in the desert. Staff is very nice, practice area is nice. Charging 50 dollars to a local is ridiculous considering the greens. Can't imagine if I was a non-resident paying their rate. I'm guessing course management is waiting things out until September shutdowns like many courses do here. Hopefully they'll get the greens situation cleared up. While they are at it they need to fix the cart paths as they have been awful for years. Those of us who have played here many times know where to avoid the horrible path areas but a newcomer could have a very uncomfortable experience. Always have loved the layout so hopefully they can get these issues fixed. I don't hold much hope for the cart paths as they have been awful for so long. Don't think management has ever cared about that.
Hello BMurphy,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and practice area. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the condition of the greens and cart paths. We are actively working to address these issues and appreciate your patience as we do so,
Horrible greens
The staff is pretty friendly. The cart didn't have any brakes. Every time I play there. They only put about 30 ice cubes in the cooler. The fairways and bunkers were in good shape. The greens are in horrible shape. Going to wait a month before we go back.
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear that our staff was friendly. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cart. We appreciate your input on the ice cubes and greens, and we'll work on improving these aspects. We hope to see you again in a month.
Great Course horrible Greens
The tee boxes, Fairways, and rough are in great condition especially for the amount of play this course gets! The greens are awful they are diseased and have large patches all over the greens that make putting like playing in a field of land mines you will not have a putt where you don’t have some missing grass and holes you won’t have to putt through. For $71 it is a total rip off and considering they force you to prepay to play you don’t have a leg to stand on to get a refund or a discount! The bar staff, cart girls, starter and outside services are great, totally accommodating and helpful. The pace of play is so slow because they pack the tee sheet even sending groups out on the back 9 and front 9 at around the same times. The proshop is small and when I went to ask about the greens and possibly getting a discount or rain check for another round when the course was in better shape they didn’t want to help in anyway. Also my buddy couldn’t make it he was sick and I had already prepaid and they wouldn’t refund me for his round or give him a credit to come play when he was feeling better. I understand that golf has become extremely popular and that the cost of everything has gone up but for $148 for two locals, I would expect better customer service from the pro shop and better course conditions. The other courses in town with issues with the greens have either shut down to repair over the Summer months or are charging $25-$35 per person for locals with the understanding that it’s cheap because the course isn’t in perfect shape. Painted Desert is a fun track when in good condition could be worth the $72 but in it’s current state anything more than $35 is a total ripoff. Stay away until they fix the greens and treat locals better.

A TRUE REVIEW
This course was built in 1982 and very little has changed. The Management Co is doing the best they can. But course is "very worn". The fairways are in decent shape but the greens - well, see the picture....very spotty with holes. Super narrow fairways and if you miss by 2 inches, your ball is lost in the old rocky desert to the sides. I would not recommend this course to any golfer who has not played here and knows exactly what they are getting!
Hello Rick,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Very sorry your experience wasn’t what you’d hoped. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the team.
Hello Sal,
Thank you for your 5 star rating, and we hope to see you back again soon!
Nice course but pace of play
It’s a nice course and I enjoy it but the pace of play last time was beyond ridiculous and makes me question if I want to come back. It took over an hour to go from hole 10 to 12 and from there I picked up and left and there were three groups stacked up behind us waiting as well. Got back to the clubhouse and was told they had sent the marshal home. Willing to give them another try but if it happens again that will be my last time.
Hello Kyle,
Thank you for giving us honest feedback. With the help of your review and a few others concerning pace of play, we steadfastly resolved the issue. We hope to see you back soon!
Weekday Afternoon Delight
Another great round at the hidden gem, still in fantastic condition. The heat is starting to stress the course a bit and there is a lot of thatch build-up on the greens, but overall, it is in great condition still.
The Driving Range likes to play off the mats and the Cart person/marshals are scarce on the weekdays, but so is the general public and the course can play very quickly during this time.
I think the Arcis Golf Management Company has been very beneficial for public golf in Las Vegas and I wish more companies would pay attention to their practices. Although everyone wants the tourist dollar, you can't forget about the locals, and Arcis does a good job of that in our Valley.
