Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
About
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

Sandy
Course was not in good shape. Fairways were dried out and lots of some large animal droppings?? The greens were sanded (lots of sand). It didn't seem appropriate to charge same amount for Desert as Lakes course. Generally like the layout but just not in good shape.
Almost
Played the Desert course and the greens were heavily sanded but fairly consistent in speeds. Fairways were mostly brown. Sunny day in 70s still made for a nice outing.
Great Trip Opportunity
Excellent price and weather. The course was dry and needed repair in a number of places but still provided an excellent track to play.
Sad
Don’t let the pictures fool you. It no longer looks anything like them. Several years ago I played Primm and it was beautiful but at this point it appears as If maintenance is virtually non-existent. It seems like they are barely keeping the Lake Course in playable shape and the Desert Course is being left to die. Frankly I would be embarrassed to charge someone to play on the course.
What a Shame...
Played 3/4/22
OMG, they have just let this course completely go. Fairway shots ended in thin, cuppy lies within the short, interspersed mixed grasses, bare spots were plentiful, and the course featured greens that aren't green at all (they look like mostly gray/white pressed mud). At least the rock strewn sand in the bunkers was still playable as long as you removed the pebbles. A big portion of the rakes we picked up in the bunkers were broken, too. The bar/grille right now closes at 3 PM, so you can't sit down for a snack or drinks there after your round before the hour drive back if your tee time is 11 AM or later. The pace of play was slow-ish, a few minutes wait on most shots. We finished in just under 4 1/2 hours as a 3-some with a 3-some ahead of us, but if they had a slower 4-some ahead of them... who knows, maybe a lot of lost ball searching as the wind was 15-20 mph with gusts to 27 on this day. Pretty brutal.
On the plus side, the staff is very friendly and accomodating, and the practice facilities are expansive and well worth going early there to work on your short game or hit the range, with practice balls supplied free of charge.
We had played the Lakes Course the last few times and it seemed like it was getting a bit scruffy but still decent, so we decided to go for a little change of scenery and play the Desert Course this time out.
Unfortunately to me, this course was poorly maintained and not worth the drive from Vegas or the green fees. We played with a Hot Deal tee time from GolfNow and $54 was still too much with the 100 mile round-trip drive and extra $20 in gas money you pay in order to play here. Sad, these are two Dye-designed beauties and it seems like they're nowhere near what they used to be.
Well, hopefully it will get better in the future. I don't understand the conditions because we had quite a mild Winter. Maybe they're just letting it go before reseeding new grass for this Summer.
Anyway, at least for now- not recommended.
Challenging layout
Winter conditions on Saturday included dormant fairways, strong winds, minor mold damage to a few greens which were otherwise fast and crowded with Super Bowl weekend golfers.
But, both courses have excellent layouts with challenging designs. Staff members were all very helpful and friendly. Nice bar with food available.
No Reason to Drive 30-Miles from Las Vegas
The course was rough overall with many dead trees, splotchy fairways and damaged greens. Not the old Primm coorses I remember.
Very poor course maintenance
Unfortunately the course was in very bad playing condition. they let the course go a bit. very poor greens, multicolored fairways, dry and dusty. doesn't seem like they water the course at all. played here in the past and was in much better shape. clubhouse and staff are great. will play again when course improves.
Surprising oasis
Good golf, good layout, some very difficult holes , kind of rough in places.
We had a good.round.
Terrible green condition & very rude attitude
We went there Oct 2, 2022. When arrived, no one in the club House but wet flooded carpet with loud fan sound to dry it. We made reaervation through Golfnow. After few holes, we decided to quit. I never seen such a terrible green in my 40 years golfing experience. If they posted the condition honestly, we would not get upset. To make a things worse, the guy from club House was very unprofessional. His attitude is "so what?" He said us to complain to golfnow. It is not their fault at all?
Never go to this place. It is not worth to visit. Wasting your time & money.
Not worth the money.
I'm surprised this course is still operational. The greens were absolutely unplayable, and the fairways were patchy. The staff made no mention of the course condition upon check it. I could tell it use to be a nice course and the layout is great, but it's not worth the 90 bucks.
Horrific Conditions
Driving 45 min from Vegas to play here was a HUGE mistake
What the heck happened here?
I used to love coming to this place. It was a short 40 minute drive from Vegas and 36 holes. But my god what has happened here in the four years since my last visit?
The good: range balls are now on the range, and it seems like they’ve been upgraded. The practice area is quite large though it is hard to see range balls land on the hard pan.
The bad: pretty much everything else.
The starter: he was too busy with his phone and talking with another employee about something on his phone to help get me paired up with the others in my group. When I got frustrated with him I sarcastically said “sorry to bother you and went to the cart”. He was so clueless that he thought I was being serious and said “oh no, you aren’t bothering me”
The cart; it still had a half-eaten burrito on it. The wrapper was still warm when I picked it up to throw it out at the range. No telling if it was still there from a morning round, was the starters breakfast, or something else
The pairing: again the starters fault, but had no idea how to get the people with each other. Because of this I never met with my group. I caught up with a threesome on hole 2, but there was a single in front of them and a foursome in front of them. Behind me was another foursome.
The course: OMG. What the heck happened? This used to be so nice. This time of year there was generally a woman’s NCAA tourney there with lots of name schools. This was more suitable for an off-road derby. The greens were no better. Covered In a strange green mush. I’ve played oil and sand greens that were better - and probably had more grass.
The pace of play. Unbelievably slow. Due of course to the lack of focus on pairing groups correctly.
The wind - not the courses fault obviously, but a 25 mph wind started in the third hole just to top it all off.
I’d love to say I’d be back again, but I can’t. It’s too bad. There’s a great layout but this now is barely a golf course.
Not a good winter course
With the bermuda being dormant and no rye overseed like some other Vegas courses, the Desert course was in poor condition.
Rough track
The course appears to be in disrepair right now, with the fairways extremely thin and bare and and the greens showing some disease periodumb disease. It's not worth any money to play this particular course.
