Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Could not cancel due to rain!
I did not play because tee time was 12:44 and it was going to rain at 1 :30. If I can use the time to get anot her tee time, that would be terrific.
The course offers challenges
There are quite a few doglegs, offering some challenges working around or over trees. The course is also in good shape.
Worth playing
Course in very good condition for the time of year.
I’m a17 handicap. The course is fair and challenging from the white tees. Water comes into play often. Greens were fast and sand traps well kept. No see um bugs might give you some trouble so bring bug spray in case. I will definitely play this course again. Only giving a 4 rating because of time of the year. Course will improve as season progresses. Hope this helps your decision to play.
Pleasant challenge
The late winter/early spring course conditions were very playable. In particular, the greens were smooth and receptive. While the fairways were still dormant they offered good lies and responded well to crisp iron shots.
beautiful
absolutely beautiful. Great course, friendly staff
VERY DISAPPOINTED
My husband and I teed off about 2:30 and knew we might not finish before sunset. We were done with the front nine in less than 2 hours (we played scramble style to speed up our play). After the 11th hole there were at least 2 groups backed up on every hole. One group told us to play through but came up on the same issue at every single hole. There was no sign of a ranger anywhere. We complained to the golf shop and his response was we monitor a 4 hour 15 min round from the clubhouse. Really, how die you do that with no GPS on the carts nor no ranger. It wasn’t even worth the discount rate we used to book it since we basically only played 9 holes.
Nice course in Hilton Head
Nice layout, some holes tight. February conditions ok.
Port Royal-Barony
Mid February conditions are always different. With that said, the course is still in good condition and greens are very good. Staff was great as always. Love the the place and highly recommend playing there.

Challenging course. Enjoyed our round. Weather could be better - windy and cold - in the 40s!
AlicePort
Great course! Conditions not the best - windy and cold!! Definitely will play again in better conditions.
In all fairness
The course was in fair condition considering it is the winter season in Hilton Head. The course will improve and become everything you could expected this spring.
