Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Underwhelming greens.
The course is still nice.
Just felt that the greens lacked character and could’ve been in better shape. Of the courses we played, the least favorite.
Very nice experience!
Teed off 0700 Sunday a.m. so no one ahead of us and played in 3 1/2 hours. Nice track with several smaller greens and good mix of trouble (sand and water) and openness. Course in very good shape. Saw previous comment about poor condition of greens due to recent aeration but I disagree- you could barely see where they had been punched and they rolled fast and true and were fun and had some challenge. No GPS on carts so bring your range finder or fire up your distance app. All in all a very nice experience!
Barony
Biggest issue - A course of this caliber should certainly have GPS on cart. The standard is the standard and this is below the standard.
Greens were recently aerated but this was not a huge issue.
Aireated, not a pleasant experience.
there was no mention till after we paid, course was just aireated. We'd love to play under normal conditions.
Gary
Greens were dry and rough fairways better condition then the greens,
Nice Challenging Layout
I do not drive the ball long so I played the Black/Green tees Still had 11 holes where I hit fairway/hybrids into the greens. Shot 77 with 31 putts with 12 FIRs and 11 GIRs, so it was a pretty good day. Plenty of doglegs to negotiate. If you do not hit a long ball, put aside your ego and have a better chance of scoring from the forward tees. You'll enjoy it.
Very enjoyable! 😉
First time playing Port Royal. Staff was friendly. Course was in great shape. Beverage carts on course. Layout allowed for various shots and used almost all the clubs in my bag. Few areas being repaired but nothing that couldn't be moved just a bit to allow repairs to grow in for future. A few sand traps didn't have much sand and were under repair. Just don't go in the sand and you're fine! 😃 I wasn't that lucky! LOL! Will definitely be back!
Disappointed
I had played this course several years ago.
The course was not the better of the existing courses back then and I believe the conditions have gone down hill.
Hidden Gem
Great course, in great condition. Was first one out for the day, played 18 in 2 hours 10 minutes. Was fantastic. Will definitely return.
Greens are back!
I've played this course several times, but hands down this course is in the best condition I have ever seen. (June 2023) Greens, which had damage earlier in the spring, have completely recovered and the fairways are lush. First ones out on a Sunday morning at 7AM, capped off by a tasty lunch at the Robber's Row Grill.
Additionally, you may not find a better practice area on the island. There is a large area for short game work, practice sand, putting, large driving range - and best of all they have a 3-hole "practice loop" that you can play 3 times for $25. (a full par-4, par-3 and a par-5) A great idea if you don't have time for a full 18. GREAT FOR KIDS.
Spectacular course!
Nice course was just going to practice but decided to play! Glad I did! Shot my personal best score! Challenging course but fair! Had ample birdie opportunities but couldn’t convert. If your down here give it a try.
