Great place to play
There isn’t a golf course on the island where you will be treated better than Shipyard. The staff members are so friendly, accommodating, and professional. The course is in excellent shape. I purchased a 2 month winter special through Heritage Golf. I have the choice of 6 courses with this package. I expect to play shipyard the most. In my opinion, you will not be disappointed playing this course….
A Solid Value During the Winter
The course has 3 nines and all play about the same. Golfers need to hit the ball well to score - lots of forced carries and doglegs. The grass used for the greens does not grow in the winter; they dye the grass green and roll the greens daily, resulting in fast but true greens. The pace of play was just over 4 hours.
Fantastic staff!!!!! Everybody was very accommodating and friendly. The attendants were very helpful with knowledge of the greens, (super fast) pace of play and any other requests you may have. We played here back to back days and will definitely recommend playing here.
Worth Playing
This is a 27-hole layout with a decent range, chipping area, and putting green. Interesting layout including force carries, dog legs, and a good mixture of par 3, 4, and 5 holes. The pace of play was around 4 hours. Greens are interesting as grass goes dormant in the winter, dyed, and rolled making for fast putting.
Shipyard
Course is not in good shape. Needs an overhaul from tee to green including golf cart paths.
Great course. Too expensive
Fun course and great experience. Just too expensive for the conditions. Have played better courses in wv for half the price we paid on GolfNow which was already a big discount.
Nice course as always
Greens are fast, rough is dormant. Usual Jan HHI
Staff is always nice. Play here every year
Great time and service
The staff at Shipyard Golf Club was amazing. Very friendly and helpful.
Course was fun to play!
Enjoyable and fast round in December
Arrived 30 minutes ahead of my 9:16 tee time and was greeted warmly by the staff. Got set up, hit some balls, some putts and out to the course, Got an escort to the first hole of the Clipper (I played Clipper then Brigantine 9's) and chatted briefly with the starter (we are both originally from Massachusetts) before starting the round. I was initially worried how the greens would be since the practice green has recently been punched (tiny punches) but the greens on the course were in really good condition.
Played the blue tees since the rating matched closely with my home course. Some of the blue tees were pushed back to the gold lengths, which presented a few challenges I didn't expect, but it was a pleasant round. Played 18 holed in 2:30, nobody ahead of me or behind, only maintenance crews on a few holes.
Everyone there was friendly and in good spirits. The course was in great condition given the time of year. Tee boxes and fairways were very good, greens not too fast and rolling true. It was my first time playing but everything is in front of you so nothing tricky, just straight golf. I would definitely recommend it.
Significantly improved over past years
Clearly management has and is investing to improve this course. Greens were in great condition; fast and true. Fairways need a month or two additional time to fill in but in current condition we still felt that they were far better than anytime in past few years. Only area that I would love to see modified are the bunkers. They were to packed down felt like hitting from hard pan. Plan to definitely return.
Enjoyable Course
Friendly staff. Course conditions were very good and a very playable course fof the average golfer.
