Country Club of Hilton Head
About
The Country Club of Hilton Head rambles over a variety of terrain, including rolling, open expanses, pine and oak woodlands and freshwater ponds and marshlands. Each hole is distinctive, as a golfer must negotiate water hazards, contoured fairways, pot bunkers and sculpted bunkers, and grass hollows. This facility features constant elevation tees, landing areas and greens, as well as the only punch bowl-shaped green in the area. The Country Club of Hilton Head layout also features 3 doglegs, undulating and tiered greens and two par-5's that stretch more than 575 yards in length. An excellent, fair test of golf for all skill levels.

Nice course, slow round.
Overall, we liked the course. Pretty good shape for February especially considering all the rain that we’ve had. Lots of minor doglegs but nothing too crazy. The greens were fast (we were told they were at 11) and true. As average golfers we thought that a number of the greens, especially on the back 9, were too penal. Small, elevated, undulating or sloped, numerous bunkers. We waited on every hole starting halfway through the front 9. 18 holes took 4:40.
Pace of play
The starter said cart path only and said we would be done in 4 hrs. I knew right away cart path only would never be 4 hrs well it took 5 hrs.
Sloooow pace 5+ hours
It was cart path only, but still. 5.5 hours is not OK. No ranger to be seen. But, it’s a great layout and the greens were pretty true. And after all, it’s still February. I will return.
Course Was Closed
I booked Sunday 02/14/21 and the course was closed so i called to cancel and did so. but Glofnow still charged me a fee. Not the couirses fault but Golfnow should update when a course is closed and refund money.
Slow pace
Cart paths only - 5 hour round.
Interesting course layout.
Nice course
Nice layout. Winter conditions... fairways were in only fair condition.... greens were dormant Bermuda but rolled true at roughly 11.
For this time of year, it was a a very fair value on a course well worth playing .
Great greens
Greens were lighting fast but they rolled true. The men who handled the club's were very friendly. Not so much inside the clubhouse. Would definitely play again.
Friendly staff and fun course.
We play thus course at least 8 times during our stay on the island. Although the fairways are brown during the winter months the tee boxes and greens are always in great shape. Staff is super friendly and the members are great also.
Good course
This was the first time I played here. It was a good, fair layout. Pace of play was very good. Will return if the opportunity presents itself.
Challenging Green Complexes and Difficult Par 3s
My experience at the Country Club of Hilton Head was nothing short of top notch. The club personnel at the bag drop, pro shop and first tee were exceptionally friendly and informative. The practice facility is awesome and included complimentary balls. I had conversations with a few members prior to my round and found them to be engaging and enthusiastic about their club. I was paired with a member and a guest who were familiar with the course and were helpful in providing assistance on the strategies for playing each of the holes. The main advice provided (and needed to be followed) was to always take an extra club on approach shots as every green is elevated requiring a few extra yards more than what your GPS or Rangefinder was providing. Course conditions are very good. The rough and fairways are dormant, but the fairways have been sprayed with green fertilizer so it was very easy to see where to go on each hole. The greens are FAST and smooth and although they have some pitch marks, most had been repaired correctly and did not impact the roll of your putts. All of the par 3 holes are forced carries over water or marsh with bunkers or runoff collection areas on all other sides. The rest of the holes are a good mix of straight and doglegs left and right. None of the holes appeared to be a repeat of another - so each is memorable in their own way. GPS on the cart would be helpful to know distances to carry bunkers and especially on holes where it is cart path only as my ball always seemed to be on the side of the hole opposite the cart path! On all of the holes, the greens appeared to be appropriately sized and shaped to accept properly struck approach shots. I rate this course a 4.7 out of 5 and hope to find the time to play the Country Club of Hilton Head again!
Very Nice
Very impressed, wonderful layout greens were fast and true. It’s tough but fare so far #1 on my HH list . Staff was friendly and helpful.
Enjoyable Round at Bear Creek
Workers at the Bag Drop and Pro Shop were very nice and accommodating to me and my son. We were provided with ample balls to warm up at the range and given the freedom to tee off whenever we wanted as we had arrived almost an hour ahead of our tee time reservation. We hit a few at the range and rolled a few at the practice putting green before teeing off a half hour early. We felt like we had the course to ourselves as we played the round in about 3:15 and finally caught up with the lone group in front of us on the 17th hole.
The course layout has many doglegs in both directions with only a few straight holes and of course, the par 3s sprinkled in between. Course conditions were fairly good - especially on the tees and greens. Fairways and rough are dormant so it was hard to differentiate the difference between the two from the tee box. Bunkers on the dogleg holes were all very similar with a shorter bunker on the inside corner and further bunkers on the outside corner - making it appear as if a complete line of bunkers was awaiting your tee shot on nearly every dogleg hole. Green complexes were all unique with different challenges from angle of approach and bunkers or water/marsh/waste areas surrounding the greens. Although previous reviewers had noted how tight it was off of the tee, we found the tee shots to be playable on all holes with trees lining both sides of the fairways, but yet ample room to miss hit some drives off of the fairway and have a playable second shot. Will return to Bear Creek should I find another great tee time deal. 4.5 stars out of 5.
Course was wet
The course was extremely wet due to lots of rain. It drained well though. The greens are incredible. Love the layout. Lots of fun
