Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
About
Jack Nicklaus designed the golf course at the Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run. The 18-hole, public course is touted as having one of the best layouts in the area. The par-72 course offers 7,014 yards of challenging and fun golf. Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run's design emphasizes strategy rather than power. Sand and water hazards add interest to the course. In addition to providing a great game of golf, the course also has picturesque scenery with the many oaks and pines that snake though the course. It has been named one of America's Top 100 Courses priced under $100.

Gator at Golden Bear Photo submitted by fusselbe on 11/07/2012
Nice Leap Year Day
Course was in great shape for February. Pace of play was 4:15. A couple of greens were partially void of turf, but I never hit my ball there. So no complaints.
Better the 2nd time around, except for pace
This is the 2nd time I've played Golden Bear. I generally don't like Nicklaus courses, as my take on them is that Jack expects one to be able to hit draws and fades to avoid trees and hazards that encroach on what would be "good" straight shots from the tee or fairway. This is true to some degree at Golden Bear, but only on a few holes. The fairways were the best of 7 different courses I played in February at HH, and the greens were fast and true. Unfortunately, the starter sends groups off every 8 minutes rather than 9+, so by the early afternoon there is a wait on most holes. The ranger did come out and moved things along a bit, but the round was close to 4.5 hours, by far the longest round of the 7 I played during my trip. The course conditions, the reasonable price, and the variation of holes outweigh the negatives. I will play it again...but will try for an earlier tee time in the hopes of a faster round.
Great experience
The course played well. The starter has a handle on everything making for a highly enjoyable round. We played there three times in 2024.
Nice course
I have never played this course and found it to be very playable. I am a senior golfer. Although the pace was a little slow the layout was “ friendly
Nice fairway turf
Conditions were much better than when I last played it
Fun Time
Three of us played here for the first time on a really chilly, gray, and windy day. Course is really nice. Lots of water that you can’t really see from tee boxes which presents a challenge you are not aware of on teeing off. For a fairly gloomy day and an afternoon tee time, the course was well- populated ahead of us, and there was a fairly slow foursome several groups ahead of us that lead to some hold up and wait play. But we had a great time anyway. The greens were immaculate and rolled fast. Cart paths are being repaired (and they need it in a few places), but didn’t cause any problem getting around. I don’t understand why a bunch of courses on HHI do not have Visage displays of the holes in the carts. Everywhere I play up north has them, including dog track public courses. The GPS displays help a lot in giving you an overview of what’s up ahead. Still, a great course that was fun to play. We’ll be back. Very friendly staff - starters, clubhouse and on course refreshments.
Love Indigo Run
Excellent course. Excellent staff. Played early so no waiting
First time at golden bear
Loved playing this course. Will definitely be back!
Loved the course
The staff efficiently greeted me upon arrival. I used the driving range and practice green, but was called to the first tee 1/2 hour early, the only disappointment of the day because I only hit 2 putts. Course was a little long for me from the gold tees, but in fine winter shape with good grass in fairways and well tended greens with subtle breaks I was not always able to read. I will return .
