Oyster Reef Golf Course

About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Unable To Finish 18 Holes
We had a 436 T-Time. My husband and I can easily play in 4 hours. We made the turn at 630. Waited every hole on the front 9. After 9 holes the Ranger told us we wouldn't be able to finish the round and to have the carts back to the clubhouse by 8 pm. There were 5 groups ahead of us, each having 6 players. We passed them all as we headed back to the club house. They were all still playing. We were able to get 4 holes in when we hit the other groups. It's a nice course with a great restaurant. We visit Hilton Head at least twice a year. Not sure if we will go back.
Worth A Try
Oyster is one of my favorite courses to play. I come here in late April and it's not really summer conditions just yet. All of the island is begging for rain. The course was dry and hard in the fairway, but the greens were in great condition. If you haven't played down here before, you have to remember that you're at sea level and the club you're used to using at 150 yards won't be enough. It pays to be smart out here. A bogey score on some holes is not necessarily a negative. Trying to be a hero will cost you strokes. Sand traps are plentiful and hitting out of them is like trying to hit your ball out of a bowl of sugar. If you can keep your ball in play off the tee and can make 10 foot putts, you will be happy with your score at the end of the day. A good short game pays big dividends out here.
Disappointed
I was very excited to play this course with many positive comments from friends. For the amount charged, I was very disappointed in the fairways, and their lack of grass .
Nice layout, staff friendly
Played late afternoon , staff was friendly, enjoyed the layout. Greens were in good condition, but honestly the fairways were in very poor condition with very little grass on most of the fairways. If I had paid the prime time rate, I would have been quite disappointed due to the fairways.
Fantastic layout
Very enjoyable day !
Layout is fantastic bunker placements were good locations .
The only down side was the grass in the fairways was very sparse .
The greens were in great shape but the speed was slower than I would like but rolled true !
I will be back to play it again .
Excellent Course Layout but….
Absolutely loved the layout of this course. Every hole was interesting. Signature hole was fun. I would make this my go to course for Hilton Head. The tee boxes and the greens were great. But the fairways really needed some work. Very thin. Maybe it was just a little early for growth. And the driving range was not good. Very torn up. But really I will play this course again.
Gr8 greens
Need to pay better attention to pace of play. 5 hour round. Greens were gr8….. most fairways need to be more green, no totally bare spots. Enjoyed and had fun and will go back.
Nice Condition
I played on an almost perfect day, so my perception is a little skewed. The course was in good condition and the greens were in even better shape. The layout is enjoyable and only the greens really require some precision. I will definitely return.
First Timer
The layout is very enjoyable and course conditions were very good. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful.
The grass needs to grow
The greens were nice but the fairways had insufficient grass. Good course to play later in the season.
Best Cart Girl on HHI
