Oyster Reef Golf Course
About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

It Does Not Get Any Better Than This on HHI
This golf course has been around since the 1980s, is one of the most popular courses on Hilton Head Island, has very satisfied members, and cheerful employees, and is in great condition.
We had an 8:28 tee time and were paired up with a veteran HHI visitor and a fellow Viet Nam Vet.
Our greeting from the cart guys was helpful and friendly, the pro shop was outstanding and Tom the starter was helpful and amusing especially after The disappointing Buckeyes beatdown.
They even have a Ranger Richard who patrols this course with dedication. He introduces himself as our Golf Concierge and offers to help. He gave us updates as we moved quickly
through our four hour round.
The fairways here are smooth and cut short with nice speed.
The greens are full and well formed with many tricky undulations.
This is a challenging but not tricked out golf course.
Holes #6 and 16 are tough par three holes that require an extra club or two.
Hole #6 is the signature hole and #16 is the second toughest on the course.
Sand bunkers are the signature hazard the designer Rees Jones has used throughout this
significant golf course. Both par 3 holes are dominated be monster bunkers lurking. In order to score well here by avoiding the bunkers should be the objective.
Over Priced
Nice course and a good layout. Staff was excellent. Unfortunately, there is nothing spectacular about this course that requires $180+ for green fees. Too many other options on island that are better value for the money.
Loved It
The course was in great shape. Layout is fair but challenging. Greens were quick. Fairways were fast. Really enjoyed it
First time playing Oyster Reef and it was great . Course was in great shape , greens rolled true . Way too steep on the price .
Ok but declined
The course was pretty well maintained except the greens need some love. The staff wasn't nearly as friendly and helpful as last time. I'd probably return again based on the stellar first experience a couple of years ago.
Needs Work
The front nine was in bad shape for the price and time of year. Many of the greens where very dry with patchy grass. If u didn't keep it in the fairways your ball was either in sandy soil or the pine straw since there was no rough.
The back nines greens were much better, but the rest was the same.
Course was in great shape and everyone in my group had a great time. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we had a great lunch.
Fun course
The layout was beautiful and in great condition. The staff was friendly and helpful in directing us through the course.
A gem amongst so many choices
A n attractive layout with a blend of long par does, testing attractive par threes and reachable par fives
Fairways were in poor condition
We found the conditions to be sub par for a course
that is advertised as a premium course. The fairways were extremely dry and patchy. The staff were friendly and the layout beatiful. Unfortunately, the positives were insufficient to outwiegh the poor course conditions. Too many other options on the island - wouldn’t play it again.
Oyster Reef Always delivers
Even though the course was setting play records staff , starter and ranger kept everyone up to date and set expectations for play. Conditions were excellent and our pairing for play partners couldn’t have been better.
Great course for all golfer types. Course layout and bunker placement is well designed creating visual challenges from the tee box. To best score on this course is to have a yardage book and plan your tee shots accordingly. Overall conditions of the course were good for April. I have played many courses on HH island. This is a top 5 course on island at a good value.
Good course
Disappointing in that no GPS or scorecard with the layout. Certainly they out of town first time guests? Good course, a few greens a bit rough.
