Robbers Row Surprised Me
Half the price of nearby courses, but the fairways and greens were in better shape at Robbers Row. The cart path through winds through numerous live oaks and includes several Civil War historical markers. This is my have to play it again course for Hilton Head Island.
Great course
The layout, conditions, and staff were great! Totally recommend!
Conditions Lacking
We’ve played this course many times and it has always been a favorite. Still love the layout and the staff, but this year the course conditions were not what you’d expect for a $90+ rate. Many greens with bare spots and turf problems including the collars. Also, other than the clubhouse, didn’t see any water on the course. With high 80’s temperature and high humidity, you’d think there could be a few options to refill other than buying something from the beverage cart. Overall, we felt that Robber’s Row was not what we expected based on past experiences. Hate to see this deterioration since it’s been one of our favorites.
Very nice track
Played other courses in HH. Found Robbers Row to be in the best conditions. Great practice facilty vs other golf courses. Will definitely play again
Marshall ruined the experience
They stack em up, like most courses, which is expected.
We had 2 foursomes of friends playing back to back. We were held up at the start due to a group earlier arriving late which was no problem for us, we had all day. The valet, pro-shop staff and the starting official had been great. They were very friendly and apologetic for the situation. Behind us there was a group of 3 locals that were very irritated about the late start and they made it known to all.
We stayed right behind the group in front of us as did our friends behind us. Behind then the 3 buddies of the Marshall (the locals) whined constantly and that resulted in us getting harassed for 5 holes for pace. Both our groups finally just sat there and let the locals play thru which only stacked things up worse but at least got the Marshall on the guys that had been in front of us instead. By the end we finished only 4 mins off pace but the rude Marshall harassing us really put a damper on the day.
The 8 of us played Port Royal - Robbers Row the next day...I highly recommend them, it was a much better experience.
4 of us are Country Club members and avid golfers so we get the rules, I say this only to establish that we aren't novice players and we are very aware of course etiquette.
Great staff and very nice layout
My buddy and I booked this while he was here on vacation. I am a local and have played a lot of courses on the island and in Bluffton and this rates at the top of my list.
Fast Day
Overall, beautiful layout. Fairways not great, but greens in pretty good shape. The staff was quite friendly and made the experience better. Including range balls with the greens fee was a nice surprise. Pretty challenging and requires accuracy off the tee.
Stay Away
The course was way over priced despit being on HIlton Head Island. The tee boxes were mostly dirt and the greens still hadn't recovered from being aerated, but they charged full price. We waited on every tee box but still had a ranger who decided to follow us for a whole creeping around in the woods. He drove up while about to tee off and then crept up on us while about to hit second shots mid back swing. Whole staff seemed to be suffering from first day syndrome. Would never play there again!
Good for this time of year
Golf course was in good shape for early summer. Fairways are filling in. The greens were still a little bumpy from aeration. Should be good in a couple of weeks. Staff is friendly.
Designed By Legendary Course Architects
Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club is located in the very pristine Port Royal Plantation and features 36 holes of championship golf. Legendary golf architects such as George Cobb, Pete Dye, and Willard Byrd have left their marks on Port Royal. The club’s golf accolades include a #7 ranking in “The Best 18 – The Greatest Holes of Hilton Head and Bluffton” by Hilton Head Monthly in 2015 and as a “Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts,” by Golf Digest magazine. In addition to fantastic golf, Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club is also an award-winning tennis destination.
Robbers Row Course was originally designed by George W. Cobb and William C. Byrd. It opened in 1967 and in 1994 it underwent a redesign at the hands of Pete Dye. The course sits atop some Civil War grounds and each hole features historical markers describing events on the Island. Robbers Row is located on the marsh side of the Port Royal Plantation and cuts through beautiful strands of magnolia and live oaks. It’s known for its generous fairways and well-protected greens.
The 6th hole at Robbers Row is a 517-yard (White Tees) dogleg right par 5 that can be reached in two with just the right tee shot. By playing down the right side of the fairway, you can shorten the hole or make it even shorter by hitting your driver over the trees and giving yourself a chance to get on in two! A layup shot up the left side of the fairway will leave the best angle into the green, which is shallow and mostly flat. It’s a good chance to pick up a stroke or two.
Port Royal has excellent practice facilities including a full-length driving range, short game area, and practice green. The staff of PGA Professionals at any of these courses can help you get the most out of your game. They offer private lessons, group lessons, camps, and clinics for golfers of all skill levels. There’s no excuse not to play your best when you step up to the first tee.
Heritage Golf Group has partnered with two local resorts: The Westin Resort & Spa and The Sonesta Resort. To get to the Sonesta Resort, you drive right by the Shipyard’s clubhouse, making it easy to get in an extra nine holes in the evening.
The Sonesta Resort is a AAA Four Diamond family-friendly beach resort that recently underwent a $30 million renovation. The renovation included a spectacular new swimming pool complex with a shaded lap pool and Jacuzzi, a zero-entry heated lagoon swimming pool, and a children’s area. The 340 spacious guest rooms and suites offer views of the Shipyard Plantation grounds, lush tropical gardens, swimming pools, and the Atlantic Ocean. The resort offers indoor and al fresco dining at Bayley’s Lobby Bar & Terrace, Seacrest Restaurant and Terrace, and Sweet Cane restaurants.
At the Westin Resort & Spa, coastal splendor meets southern hospitality. The resort sits nestled amid natural dunes and Hilton Head Island’s pristine white sands, The Westin Resort & Spa offers its guests oceanfront resort views from most guest rooms, the Heavenly Spa by Westin, and three outdoor pools. All of Westin’s bright, open rooms include WiFi, a flat-screen cable TV, a small refrigerator, and coffee-making facilities. There’s family-friendly dining in the Carolina Room, poolside dining at Splash, with additional dining at View 32 and Ingredients.
Any or all of these courses can be packaged together through The Heritage Golf Collection with a single phone call
Nice day to play-
My wife and son are not frequent golfers so the fact that the greens had recently been punched was not a problem. The rate was only $75, so they got a chance to enjoy a $171 layout and condition for less than half the price.
The pace of play was reasonable, and the conditions were nearly perfect. Reasonable temp and very little wind & including a small bag of range balls was nice as well. Thank you
Needs Some Work
I knew the6 had aerated the greens before I went there, so my 3 star rating not based on that. It was the tee boxes, some fairways that either had no grass or had weeds that was disappointing. I went here 1 year ago and thought it was in great shape. Love the course layout. But this year's condition is not great. There are simply better options for the price.
I sincerely hope they get the course back to what it was.
Good course and pace of play
I didn’t experience all the amenities due to arriving close to tee time but the course was in good shape and pace of play was well in line with what you would want on a Monday morning. Played 18 holes in under 4 hours. The greens were aerated so they were running slow (as you would expect) but the course offered a discounted rate because of this. Overall a good course to play especially if you don’t want to spend a fortune on HH island.
