Great layout, fairways were all lined with either trees or water
Challenging course but fair if you kept it in the fairway
Vary quiet and enjoyable course
Would play it again .
Golf Pass got us a great price here
Course was fun to play. One problem was that the rough was too thick and we spent more time trying to find our golf balls. Slowed pace of play. Rough needs to be cut more.
Challenging par 3’s
Nice layout in great condition. If you can score on par 3’s, you will have a good round..
Extremely slow pace of play
It took 3 and half hours for nine holes. Not able to get in 18 holes of golf.
We appreciate and thank you for your feedback. Here at Port Royal we strive to provide acceptable pace of play. We hope you will come back to visit.
Lovely course; perfect greens
Had a wonderful round on this pristine course. Greens were perfect.
Course layout is nice. Greens a little slower than I am used to and rough’s are pretty deep. We played for 50% off normal rate and that was good but would not play for the normal rate. That is a little high for this course.
Great golf vacation
We stayed at Island Links Resort. 2 minute ride to Port Royal golf course. They have Barony & Robbers Row, two great courses. this is our 5th year playing Port Royal.
I am a 7 handicap, playing from White tees. I thoroughly enjoyed this round, more than I expected. Excellent variety of holes, perhaps with a bias towards dogleg right driving holes. There were wide open fairways and tight driving holes. There were some very short holes, and some that test your long irons and hybrids. The greens were average in size, usually well guarded, and required accurate iron shots. The greens putted beautifully. It was a hot Friday afternoon, and I had the place to myself. My only complaints are - (1) I felt the bunkers were inconsistent in terms of the sand. Some were very firm, and I found out the hard way you had to play those with a square face. When I opened up the blade, the bounce was too much to penetrate the hard sand and I bladed a couple over the green. Once I experimented with a square face, it was better; (2) on a 91 degree day, there was only one water cooler on the entire course - and there were no cups!! Luckily, I had brought my insulated water bottle, so I was OK. Ironically, the one time all day I saw the snack cart, it was right after that water cooler. So word to the wise - byow. One other thing to mention - if you are an American history buff, you will enjoy the historical markers about the area being site of a large Union fort during the Civil War.
Nice layout; historical site
Course layout very nice. Unfortunately the greens were top dressed with sand which we were not aware of at the time of booking. Happy we didn't pay full price.
I enjoyed my round today. Course is challenging but fair. A lot of variety in the holes and layout. Make sure you read the historical markers. Staff very friendly and engaging. Course was in very good condition.
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your day with us at Port Royal! Keep us in mind if you travel back to Hilton Head.
Robbers Row review
We had tee times today at 7:48 and 7:56 am. We had a threesome and a twosome. The starter decided to send us off as a fivesome as long as we are committed to the pace of play. After nine holes we went to the 10 and another starter came up and said members were complaining About the five some and slow play. We finished the front 9 in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Very rude members.
Good But Not Great!
The staff was very kind and welcoming. However, the green just received aeration so extremely difficult to judge. The course played much slower than expected with slow groups and no ranger we experienced major backups. The course needs to manage the groups better! Pro shop was decent but not luxurious and the cart staff on course had limited selections of beer and drinks on a 90 degree day.
The layout was fun with some difficult holes but some easy iron tee par 4’s for 8 handicappers. A hot deal of $40 is fair, wouldn’t pay more than $50 for this course in its condition; July 15th!
New favorite course on island
This is my new favorite course on HHI. The staff could not have been friendlier or more gracious. The check in was efficient. I was helpfully matched up with a twosome and I don’t think we were forced to wait at a single hole. The course has many challenges but to my eye played fair. The greens were well maintained if a little quick.
