A Little Rough
Fairways were very short. Greens had just been areated and sanded. As a result, there is no such thing as a true line. Ball bounces all over the green. It will be a month or more before the greens will be in reasonable condition. Until that time, be prepared for a difficult round.
aerated and sanded
greens were aerated and heavily sanded, making for terrible putting conditions. I though golfNow was supposed to let us know when a course had aerated greens before we booked.
I have played at Wedgefield Golf Course several times. This is an average golf course with reasonable rates. I played with a friend and we had to drive a little distance to play at the course. The check in was quite nice a quick. When I reached the first green I found out it was aerated and heavily sanded. I was very surprised because every golf course I have played before that is usually the first thing they tell you before you tee off. All 18-holes were aerated and sanded which destroyed every putting effort. I should have asked for a refund but I played through and will not return to Wedgefield this year.
No mention of aerated hreens
Greens were aerated and sanded to the point of completely being unputtable. Fairways were mostly poor from dry conditions. Will not return. No water coolers on the course.
Getting better and better
Glad to see this course coming back! Great layout and the trees make it pretty but fair.. greens are a little bumpy in places but must course to play..
I stayed away from Wedgefied for 3 years due to overall poor coditions.
I decided to give it a try again this winter and I found overall improvement under new management.
During my 4 rounds this winter, the conditions have gradually degraded to the point yesterday where they were awful.
The entire course is dried out and is in serious need of irrigation and reseeding. I am not privy to any limitations imposed by the Water Management District. But I believe consideration should be given to using reclaimed water.
It takes money and resources to keep a course in good condition and I don't think that is being done here.
Waste of Money
It was our first time playing here and there were no directions to the first hole. Most holes had no signs as to what hole you were on or layout. Not one ball washer on the course. You're on your own to find hole #7 and #10. Greens were in very bad shape as were the fairways. No pin placement designation either. No bathroom on the back nine or drinking water.
Will not be back.
Old Florida not that far away
We were intrigued by the price, and proximity to the Orlando Int'l Airport. A few county roads later and you're reminded that Central Florida isn't all Ritz, Disney, Waldorf, etc.
Incredibly friendly staff (and dog) including a foursome that encouraged us to get out ahead of them. Conditions were so-so, cart paths could use work, bunkers lacked rakes in many places. Yet with all those downers it was just a fun day as you could sense everyone involved is on the same page and looking to make the place fun and affordable for all.
Greens in poor shape
Some of the greens are at the end of their life cycle. Fairways are in good shape.
Good round for the money
Course conditions were very good. Tee boxes nice, fairways good shape, greens good but rolled a little differently from the front side to the back side. Perhaps it was because it had rained overnight and by the time we finished our round late in the day things were drying out again. Overall an enjoyable round for the money. We’ll be back again.
Owner is doing a good job bringing the course back to a high standard.
We had a foursome of woman in front of us and it was obvious they were beginners when I saw one of them whiff 5 times before she hit the ball. 3 twosomes went by them on the nineth and then it wasn’t bad. Never saw a ranger.
With that said it was a nice course for the money and the man at the pro shop was very nice. I liked the layout. Fun course.
The course was in good shape but the greens were rough. I think it the time of the year when the grass on the greens goes through a rough spell before coming back.
enjoyed playing with Don and Bruce. Played 14 bunker shots. Interesting. Course is coming around. I think I'll play again next week.
lack of hole ID
Very friendly staff in pro shop & restraunt. We played maybe 10 or11 holes & finally went back & started #10 which is across the street. Number 10 was marked very well, but the rest of the holes were not marked very well. Of the 4 or 5 players we ran into 3 of them were like us, playing the course for the first time. If the course was marked better I would play the course again.
Slowly getting better
Some improvement over last year. Tees are good, greens have been over seeded, however are patchy, do not roll true and are slow. Golf cars are nice electric and it looks like they are working on the irrigation system.
