Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club offers the traditional links course reminiscent of those found in the British Isles, situated amidst Virginia's horse country. The club gets its name from the land's former use, a raspberry field. The scenic terrain overlooks to Catoctin Mountains and there are still a few raspberry bushes dotting the course. By far the layout's most formidable challenges come from the deep, stacked pot bunkers that make it truly feel like a classic Scottish golf course. There are also water hazards on a few holes. The course's signature is the par-4 third hole, which is long but plays downhill all the way. The 10th hole, another par 4, is one of the toughest. The landing area is generous off the tee but there is a creek and pond to the left and fairway bunkers on the right.

Course needs work in all areas. Tee boxes, fairways and greens. Plus, the cart paths need work as well.

Raspberry Falls still good

First time I played Raspberry Falls this season and first in nearly a year. I used to play this course a couple times a month for over a decade. i still love the risk reward challenge the layout offers. I was however disappointed at the greens as they were very choppy and beat up quite a bit. Other that that, the staff was friendly and inviting as always.

SLOW pace of play and delayed start - dissappointing

The course is great. Staff is fantastic. The pace of play was worse than municipal courses - took over 5.5 hours. Very disappointing for the price of the course I expected more. Plus there was a 20 minutes delay due to Golf Now overbooking. The course owns the issue in my mind. Will not travel out of my way for this course due to yesterday's experience.

Starting to go downhill . . .

Very good layout but starting to go downhill. Poa is taking over many of the greens on the course. The practice green just outside the pro shop is a disaster and it leaves you with a terrible first impression. Tees and fairways are OK but below average for the prices they charge. Great practice area.

Satisfied with experience

Myself and a friend made the trip to Raspberry Falls from Northern PA in an attempt to find warmer and drier weather. I heard good things about Raspberry Falls from a co-worker so that combined with catching a deal made us make the trip. Overall, Raspberry Falls delivered.

I get some of the comments regarding the course conditions as they certainly were not perfect; more specifically the greens Some of the greens were surprisingly "bad" for May 1st in NOVA. If they can get the greens cleaned up they'll be very little to complain about. The bunkers, fairways and tee boxes were all in good shape. The layout itself is very playable. The blue tees offer a non-taxing but still challenging experience. There's very few forced carries.

The staff was extremely friendly. We got a bit lost on our way down and they sent us out at later time without issue.

I would definitely play here again so long as I knew the greens were on the up and up.

Only play if you get HOT DEAL Starting to go downhill

I have been playing this course for years and it has always been one of the nicer options in the northern va area. As always the staff was very friendly and the clubhouse was clean. Other than that this place needs some serious consideration on what has gone wrong the past year. Yes it has rained a lot but this is the only course in the area where the tee boxes (besides the tips) are completely chewed up and horrendous. The greens roll ok but are very splotchy. And they now make you pay for range balls. For the price they charge I’d expect a much better course, free range balls, and atleast a cart with a GPS. Definitely will only be playing her if I get a hot deal for cheap this year.

Good course

Good course which was in good shape....hard to find this early in the season. No beer cart on the course which was a bummer, could have used some refreshment during the round.

What happened??

Raspberry Falls has been one of our favorite courses in the area for years, but wow, were we disappointed in the condition of the course! Tee boxes were in bad shape, greens were spotty and bumpy, sand traps were horrendous, bathrooms were dirty, ball washers literally had brown water, range balls no longer included if you get a discounted green fee are just a few of the noticeable shortcomings! Did something change with the management??

We had booked a tee time to play with out of town guests next weekend.....we are changing those plans after what we experienced. Sure hope things improve!

They should be embarrassed charging $90 for a course in this condition. Spend $50 for a muni and you’ll get the same experience. A foursome was wedged in front of us. Cart path only on a dry course in bad condition. Not worth the drive or money to come from DC.

Disappointed in Course Conditions

It's been about 5 years since I've played this course, but always remember the course being in pristine shape and a challenging layout. I took my son-in-law, since he'd never played it, and I was a bit disappointed in the course conditions. The fairways were chewed up and splotchy with dirt/grass patches. Number 10 has been roped off for much of the hole because of water pooling under the top layer of grass making it spongy and rolling under your feet. The rough is also not in good shape, as there are lots of dirt spots with tuffs of grass, making it difficult to get the club on the back of the ball. I would recommend the course to a friend because of the layout, but with the caveat that it is not currently in good shape. On the flip side, though, the staff were very nice and accommodating..from the bag drop, to the pro shop, to the starter, everyone was very personable and helpful. I just hope they get this course back to what it was several years ago.

What happened?

This course was once the crown jewel of the Western DC suburbs. How far it has fallen.
I realize it’s still March, and we had a horrible winter, but there’s no excuse for charging these rates for such awful conditions. They have a lot of work to do.

Course in need of some TLC

Course is in pretty rough shape. I get that we've had a ton of rain but so have all the other NOVA courses and Raspberry by far is in worse shape than lets say Bull Run or Westfields. Greens were bumpy and the rough was almost none existent (patchy). Many of the holes where the tees were originally elevated, were closed and under repair (holes 3 & 18). Spring golf has just started but I can not see this course getting back into tip top shape anytime soon with the amount of issues we saw yesterday.....

Great round!!

My best friend came to visit and asked about playing a course he had yet to play, so I suggested Raspberry Falls. Glad I did; starter was awesome, pro shop attendant was awesome, and although the conditions were challenging (playing in Northern Virginia in March), we had a great day. Awesome layout, great staff and great deal made for a very memorable day.
