Challenging par 5 - tee shot over the ravine Photo submitted by u00000638985 on 06/03/2013
Great day
The course is great, it makes you think about your shots and placement. The greens have very subtle breaks, some big, some unseen.
Much Fun
Warm fall day made this experience so much fun. Glad they stayed open for play in Nov
Amazing Fall Golf
What a day - The course was wet from the recent rain - but the greens were amazing for October and the course was really well maintained. This is an amazing fall golf course with all of the hardwoods framing each hole in full fall color. They have done a great job getting the leaves out of the way allowing us to play without too much leaf digging. We highly recommend for a late season round. Great value!
Kind of soft
Drove from Chicago to The Ravines to begin a mini-golf vacay with a buddy. Unsure if that part of Michigan got a lot more rain than Chicago received or if they just overwatered the course but the fairways were extremely wet. Was actually surprised they didn't restrict carts to the path on all holes. It is a beautiful course with fast greens.
Found out that the 14th hole provides two sets of white tees giving you the option of teeing off on either side of the ravine - would have been nice to know.
Plan to return, but under drier conditions.
Way too tight off the tee. Gimmicky.
No room to use your driver off about half the tees. I hate that. Way too tight and tricked up. Even cutting the corners left you no room to land the ball. No my style course. At all. Greens were pretty good overall. Not real fast but in good shape. First time there but never going back. You could use a 5 iron on most tees. Not for me!
Arnie Gets You
When designing this course, Arnie simply tried to challenge the golfer on every shot. Laid out so beautifully, a golfer simply cannot get too upset as they mark their double bogey on the card, clean the sand off their wedge and crack open another blue light. Greens roll well with Arnie fortified bunkers surrounding them. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 Stars was the pace of play and ignorance of staff to rectify poor pace of play. They allowed a group of 8 golfers play together and this severely slowed the pace. There were multiple back ups, and many groups left behind us because they didn’t feel like wasting their labor day Saturday being screwed twice, by Arnie and the negligence.
Ravines Golf Club
First time playing this course, had the most amazing experience. Fairways and Greens were pristine! One of my favorite courses I have ever played on, highly recommend playing here whenever you get the chance.
Don’t pass up
Excellent course and layout. Cart path only today so def. got my steps in. Greens were in great condition.
Another Great Round at The Ravines
Took my son out for 18 before he headed back to college and had a great day. Course was in great condition, weather was about perfect and the pace of play was reasonable for a Saturday afternoon.
Really love the course
Played after 3:00 PM with twilight rate excellent value, fun course to play will be back for sure.
Felt Rushed
My wife and I got to the course 15 minutes early for our tee time. I grabbed our bags and my wife went in to get couple drinks as it was about 90 degrees out. She came right back out of the clubhouse and said "they told me we need to get up on the tee box it's time to go!" We get to #1, there's a group that had just pulled away. The starter was there and told us we were being paired with another 2some, we wait 5-10 minutes before they showed up. I asked if there was a beverage cart and he told me yes. Average pace of play on the front 9, didn't see the beverage cart a single time. Stopped into the clubhouse at the turn. No one running the bar... Go over to the proshop and there's 3 highschool/college age young men arguing about schedules who ignored me. Once I got their attention I asked about beverage cart, they said "it's out there." I told them we had just completed the front 9 and not seen a cart the whole time and that there was no one tending the bar, they seemed less than concerned. Finally a bar tender showed up as the group behind us pulls up to the clubhouse. We order a couple drinks and some waters. We head off on #10 and the cart girl pulls up before we even finish #10. Obviously at that point we're all set. That was the first and last time I saw a beverage cart. Couple greens burned up on the back, nbd... Finished the round and pulled up to the cart return waiting for assistance cleaning clubs, no one showed. Not happy with this visit.
Perfect Day in Saugatuck
Nothing like playing an Arnold Palmer designed course on a perfect West Michigan summer afternoon. The greens are perfect, bunker sand is great and the layout is very fun and visually challenging.
Planes, trains, automobiles
Don't worry about some reviews - If you think you will be annoyed like Steve Martin in the movie Planes, trains, and automobiles, I am here to sooth your fears. Planes, yes - too cool though. Jumbo jets you could almost touch, the back draft like I've never experienced. we stopped to take photos. Did NOT detract from experience. Trains - one, well maintained train track through property. Never saw a train. Autos - You could briefly hear or see I-96 and Rt 6 but the golf course swept through so many forests and glens and beautiful scenery and well groomed course, the highways were barely noticeable. Beautiful clubhouse, and stunning course equal to some private clubs.
