Slow Green
Very Very slow greens, cart paths are in horrible shape, golf carts themselves need some attention.
Great Course
First we were greeted immediately by a member of the staff who was friendly and very helpful. We paid for our round and they let us go early because there was no one in front of us. The course was beautiful. Greens were in magnificent shape and very challenging. The fairways were well maintained and some of the holes were just absolutely CRAZY challenging. We loved it!! I would highly recommend this course if your looking for a course in the middle of the woods and a challenge. For the price in Virginia you can't beat it.
Less Bite, More Hassle than its worth
I used to play this course alot a because it was a challege and still is, however since I began walking; I realized this is not a walking course. You can get away with it on the front 9 but the back nine is tough to walk. There are no short cuts anywhere on the course, spend alot time on the cart path because of the design. But this was not the problem.
They have since made the course easier by having less rough and slowing the greens down, so not as bad as it used to be. The problem is there is absolutely no reason for anyone (average hitter) to hit driver on this course unless you playing from the tips. But what happens is people want to hit driver so they play from the tips or blues so they can hit driver. There are so many blind shots that many people spend time searching for balls. The course gets backed up starting at hole 3. But hole 4 provides time for things to spread out again but then gets backed up again at hole 7. Then the "regulars" play hole seven and skip to hole 10 (because the green on hole 7 is next to 10 tee box). Then they skip back to the front 9 on the back (after 18). This the play all day people.
I have played this course several times in the last few weeks twice I only played 9 holes because it was extermely backed up (during the week) and twice I had groups in front of me after coming off 9 to 10 that was not there on hole 9. Twice I had to call them out on it so I can continue to play. I was playing by myself catching groups walking, and this is a hard course to walk.
The back 9 is extremely backed up on 15, 16, 17 because 16 is the toughest hole on the course and I get that. But the other reason is for all the skippers on hole 7 adding extra groups on the back that should not be there. Because its not as busy you get 3 -4 groups of onesome behind 4 somes that will not let people play through. So its an endless wait game. Play a hole wait 15 mintes. etc. Then add foot golfers! Walking slowly down the cart path as you wait for them to clear so you can hit.
No starter! No Marshall! At least no that enforces anything. This used to be a strict course on pace of play.
I love this course but no longer worth the hassle. If you have the time and the patience its worth the challenge. But otherwise save your time.
Very slow
Course was in fine shape but it took us 25 minutes to get off the first tee box after our scheduled tee time. Round took over 5.5 hours and was very back logged. Rather challenging course with lots of hidden shots.
Good course management required
Course offers options to bomb away or sometimes to play smart and play to a required distance locale. Using driver does not always mean the best placement for your approach shot. Sometimes less is better. Play smart and conservative at times and you will enjoy this course much more.
Great Day of Golf!
Coarse was in great shape, very interesting coarse with many types of layouts. Always fun to play.
Nice course to play
The tee boxes needed attention but the course itself was challenging and fun. Great price.
Hidden Gem
I have played this course a few times now and every time it is in extremely good conditions. Staff is always very friendly here. And during the week you can play 18 for about 15$, you cant beat that.
Thank you for choosing to play your round of golf with us. We hope we see you soon.
Challenging for the First time Player
This course has a lot of tricks and hidden shots that really test the recovery ability of a player playing this course for the first time. The greens are very undulating, placing a high premium on knowing where on the green to target.
Not for the average Joe
First time playing this course. I liked the design and I know the condition will improve as the weather continues to warm up. I look forward to playing in full leaves. This would be a tough place to play in the fall. I consider it too challenging for most players. Some forced carries, blind shots, and few flat spots anywhere. That contributes to the incredibly slow play - we never came up to an empty tee all day.
Early kickoff to another golf season
Having played here before, I knew what to expect from the course and staff. As its early April, the course still had rough spots. They had just sanded the greens, which explains the low Saturday pricing.
As usual they were understaffed; it was the starters first day; he did not know golf, had not been trained or coached and was really at a loss beyond recording cart numbers. Their was one cashier and one snackbar person. While all were pleasant and trying; they obviously needed help.
Very challenging yet very fun
This course is so difficult i had to laugh. slopes are steep. even the greens have slopes. The fairways are narrow with many dog legs. I lost lot of balls at this course. only thing that bothers me is the footgolf holes
Cart Had Brake Failure, Crashed Upside Down!
Awhile back we played here and our cart had a complete brake failure on a downward path. I bailed out but my partner ended up upside down under the cart in a ditch. There was approx. $1,000 in damages including broken clubs, medical bills from battery acid burns, etc. We were told that the cart had just been returned from the manufacturer for repairs. We submitted reasonable costs for damaged items to Mr. Chalice, Marshall, Anderson (director) and received no response at all. Play here at your own risk!
Slow Play, No Marshals
Great course for the money. Arrived for afternoon play was sent right out, but two holes in hit a wall of waiting for each hole. Paid for 18 holes, only played 13 till it got so late and fed up with waiting. Larger groups were not waving smaller ones through. Staff was only there to collect the money and pass out/take in the carts. Facilities were lacking, no one available at the snack bar at the turn. Great looking and cared for course for the money. Tight fairways with woods, but easy to locate balls that lose their way.
you'll think you're in the mountains
I've always liked this course because you feel like you're in the mountains without leaving northern Virginia. You don't see any houses until the 17th tee.
Of course I'm also partial to it because I had a hole in one on the 2nd hole back in 1998. I love taking people here for the first time just to see their reactions. I once saw a friend 5 putt #3 and pick up since we couldn't stop laughing. Another reason I like this track is because I'm a short hitter but can still reach all holes in regulation except 7,8, and 16 (the toughest hole in NoVa). The amen corner here is 10-12, with blind shots a plenty. A par on those 3 holes and you have accomplished something. My only complaint is the cart paths need a lot of work due to soil erosion. You don't want to walk this course without a pack mule!
Challenging and fun
Not the longest course but challenging and fun. Majority of the holes demand a great tee shot otherwise be ready to be punished accordingly.
First time playing there and I feel both tested and tried.
Novice golfers should not play here. This course will test your golfers character..
Airation
They should let us know airation before we buy tee time.
Elite Target Golf & Great Scenery
What a blast this course is. This was my first visit and this is a great course for those who appreciate challenging golf course architecture! The way golf was meant to be played. I played the blue tees and play to an 11 handicap. The course requires you to hit every club in your bag
Good driving range and short game practice facilities.
Tight fairways, but they can be hit. Keep the driver in your bag for most of your shots to ensure hitting the fairway. There is severe trouble everywhere for off line shots, so 'hit it where you can see it' is a must at all costs. The driving tips on the golf carts were good and accurate. The course has good markers for 250 200 150 100 yards but could use some more on course yardages - I still paly the old fashioned way - without a GPS. Large, undulating greens that require you to hit below the hole. Unfortunately, they were just aerated so we couldn't get the real feel of the course, but they were still fast! I hit the ball fairly straight, but not long and shot well - 85 - with a few lost shots because I didn't know the course
I live out of the area but plan to play here again when I return.
Course is Toughest I Have Golfed in the Area
Hilly, uneven terrain, bad lies, narrow fairways, very unforgiving. Most challenged at the greens which we very uneven in slope and very hard to read. Well maintained is about the only positive comment I can make. Only go if you want a real challenge.
We are happy you enjoyed your visit with us. Thank you for your feedback, we do hope we see you again soon.
