Maybe it was a bad day for them...
MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS REVIEW:
TOUGH COURSE THAT IS NOT MAINTAINED DO NOT PLAY.
So one of best friends and I wanted to play before heading back to college. We decide to try this course out on a Sunday afternoon instead of paying to play at Raspberry Falls again (top 3 courses in NOVA IMHO). Now I understand a budget tee time comes at 3:40 so we were paying a discounted rate and thank god for that. So they also introduced FOOTGOLF there to bring in more money and it made the experience awful. The pro shop staff was incompetent, the starter was incompetent (I ended up suggesting that we tee off the back 9 to start since those footgolfers were on the first couple holes). The carts were no better than those little electric cars little kids drive in. The course conditions (everything but the green was absolutely atrocious). It would be an awesome course if maintained properly there are lots of narrow fairways, blind fairway shots to a protected green, bends in the hole making you play spot golf.
Half of the other golfers there I would not consider good golfers (not judging) but their reviews might be skewed since they have not played some other nicer courses.
Take the kids or the wife out to this course since it is cheap but bring a TON of balls you will likely lose them.
fun design but greens are poor condition
Course is fun and challenging. Conditon is a little below average. Be prepared to loose a ball or 5.
Great course
Very challenging, great bunkers, and a very friendly staff.
bring some balls
Tight narrow fairways, doglegs, and undulating greens. If you like a challenge give general ridge a try . Bring a lot of balls easy to lose a few
General took my balls!
If you like to play on tough fairways and greens, this is the place for you! Love the challenge the General throws at you. Bring some balls.
Tough Challenging Course
This is a very challenging and narrow course but you'll love it you have a competitive spirit and attitude about your golf game. Plan on losing a few balls though if you're not straight off the tee. Would recommend they go out there and blow away a few leaves that having been piling for the past several years. Might make it easier to find a lost ball or two.
Great Day
Had a great time playing this course. As the starter said at the outset, it is not a long course but it has plenty of challenges. My son and I found it to be a fun course and will definitely play it again.
General is in good shape
This course as a mix of wide open fairways and some that require some target golf and thinking through what you want the second shot to be. Course condition is as good as I have seen it in 3-4 years (except for one tee box which is being worked). The greens are sneaky tough with undulation and more break than one might see without careful assessment for several sides of the hole. A single view from behind ball will not do the line of putt justice or get you in the hole!! They are now providing course tip sheets for the holes which is nice especially for first time or infrequent payers. Overall fairways, rough, and greens are in very good shape and lend themselves to an enjoyable round of golf at a reasonable price. Scoring is there for the taking: greens are holding and putt are rolling smoothly.
Good Value for the Money
Course has many "blind" shots but it's a fairly difficult course. Can't understand more folks do not play here....it's good for me but not so much for the Park Auth.
Generals Ridge.....a golf ball collection pool!
This is not a golf course.....its an obstacle course!!!! The worst golf course i've ever played at in northern va.....no cart personnel.....no starter.....snack bar opened at 1100 on a holiday????
Clubhouse staff not friendly, no starter
Walked in and the clubhouse employee was helping an older caucasian gentlemen. He was extra helpful to him.
When it came my turn he was rude, rang up my golfnow deal and then didnt tell me anything else. I had to ask what I should do next and he told me no starter and proceeded to help next customer.
Thankfully a couple invited me to join them.
Challenging Course, Great Value
I paid $29 to play on Memorial Day. Great value considering comparable courses were two to three times as expensive.
Good time with friends
Had a great time playing with friends. I could have played better but the course played well.
Good Course, OK Service
This is a nice course with good playing conditions. It is somewhat challenging for the weekend player so it tends to play slow. The service needs improvement, however. I had to beg for range balls because the guy working the counter was out of baskets for the balls and was too lazy to go get some more. Also, I followed a very slow foursome and never saw a Ranger on the course. This is a nice course, but would be much much better with a little customer service and more active management.
A bit challenging
I played here for the first time and for the price on the weekend in this area it is a good deal. They offer driving range/putting and chipping practice too. Because it rained hard the couple days before this we had cart path only. This added to our playing time and made for a long day. It is a very scenic course with the trees and creeks. Saw deer crossing the fairway. Now for the downside. The carts had a tough time with the hills. There was a ranger once as we were about done. They should be out on the weekend to stop players from either hitting 3 times from the tee or looking for a ball for 5 minutes and just plain keeping the flow of the game going. This course is very hilly and a lot of blind shots where you don't know if the group in front of you has moved on. They could put a bell out for players to ring. The course was in good condition considering the amount of rain that fell. Big greens but tricky. On the turn we went in for dogs and coffee and they were out of coffee and when I asked if they will make more the reply was when I get a chance. After the round was done we went to get a dog and boast about shots of the day but stood at the counter for 5 minutes and nobody came so we left. Overall if you want to challenge your game, pack a lunch and make sure it is not cart path only rules and enjoy the course.
If you like hills....
and blind shots, then this is the course for you. To many chances to lose balls you think are in the middle of the fairway. Will spend a lot of time looking for balls just barely in the rough. Almost all fairways are sloped down, tough to get an even stance. Unless you hit your tee shot in a 5 yard window, good luck! Very nice greens, putted true. Nice scenery. Cheap deal on Golfnow on the weekends was the only reason we ventured back to this course after 8 years.
Generals ridge
Very testing course from the championship tees. Lots of elevation changes and uneven lies. In good shape. Tight fairways.
Challenging
This course plays longer than the actual yardage. God Bless you if you play from the Black Tees.
Needs some TLC
We played Saturday morning around 11:00 and couldn't beat the price of $35. Tee boxes need a lot of work. Most of them had dead grass. Other than that the course was in pretty good condition. Tight fairways, uneven lies, and tricky greens. Not a good course for a beginner.
