20 years after my first round at Palm Desert Resort (and a lot grayer) I still enjoyed my round! Photo submitted by salevy on 12/17/2012
Great pace for an afternoon round
4h20 round in the afternoon, very happy with that.
Relatively easy course. Nice layout and very good conditions except the rough that is very thin and quite dry.
Decent shape
Course is in reasonable shape, fairways are green, somewhat patchy. Rough is brown. Course is surrounded by housing. The last hole is kind of strange.
Very Nice Course
I played this course with two friends and a 4th member joined us. The experience was generally great except for the pace of play. We had a very slow group ahead of us who were not held up by anyone ahead of them, and unfortunately, there was no course marshal to get things moving.
The condition of the course was generally excellent, except that there were no markings for distance, which for those who don't have GPS technology, is troubling.
Loved my experience
Good layout, excellent conditions, friendly staff and got paired up with fun members
We had three players and a rider. After we were leaving added up and on the first tee a fourth player a young lady who was practicing for a future tournament at the club joined us along with her mom and everybody got year old brother. Within minutes we were all informed that we could only have two carts for the group. They took a cart away and the young lady rode with myself while her mom and brother and my son walked the course. At the turn I asked if we could have another cart and despite plenty of carts being available was told that the club pro said no. On top of all that the pace of play was a abysmal.
Surprised at course conditions. Much improved from last time I played a number of years ago.
Awesome course, in great shape, terrific price
This is second time playing this course. Found it in really great shape! Fairways nice and green and greens in excellent shape. Plenty of fun and challenging holes - especially 18! Great value at this time of the year! Friendly staff! Will be back!
Quite a few very challenging and memorable holes
The Palm Desert Golf Course was quite enjoyable, and had quite few very memorable and challenging holes:
- Hole 6 was a short Par 3 over water ... with a "safe" side and a "wet" side ... hard to stick
- Hole 7 had a long stretch over water before landing on a relatively wide fairway
- Hole 9 had a beautiful drive over water, leading to a narrow fairway with water on the left ... stay right!
- Hole 10 was a long Par 5 with a very sharp dog leg right at the end ... quite a challenge
- Hole 14 was a long Par 4 with a large body of water just before the green ... lay up or go for it?
- Hole 18 was the pinnacle ... a long drive (or 3 Wood) over water with a short island fairway ... followed by another body of water just before the green. You had to stick and hold your tee shot, and then stick and hold your approach shot. A real challenge.
Not the longest or most difficult course, but very fun, challenging, and memorable.
Well done ... Palm Desert Resort!
A Mellow Course … but Enjoyable
Seems to me that this course is quite mellow … nothing fancy, but quite enjoyable nonetheless! Before the round, we were able to practice chipping and putting … as the driving range was out of service. As it ended up, the chipping practice was quite useful, as it led to a few up-and-downs!
We did end up waiting at most holes, and the course layout was above mediocre. The course was well staffed, and they were both friendly and helpful (hence the overall five-star rating).
I would certainly play the Palm Desert Resort Golf Cours again, and I recommend it for intermediate or novice players. I don’t think that the course would be enough for the scratch golfer looking for a real challenge.
