20 years after my first round at Palm Desert Resort (and a lot grayer) I still enjoyed my round! Photo submitted by salevy on 12/17/2012
Played this course as part of a marathon 9-rounds in 5 days trip I took to the Coachella Valley.
A good golf course with plenty of challenge without being tricked up or gimmicky. Conditions were good, but pace of play seemed unmonitored and slow.
CONDITIONS: Greens were good. Fairways and tee boxes were fine. Bunkers were not in good shape (hard, whispy sand) and the rough was dormant.
VALUE: Glad I booked a deal time. Not sure if full fare is the way to go.
LAYOUT: This course winds thru a housing or resort development. A lot of holes have elevated greens which present a fair challenge. A lot of holes have an interesting or fun design to them using either doglegs or water features to present the challenge.
The 4some ahead of us was walking. Given the chance to play again I would choose to walk as well.
FRIENDLINESS: They got me checked in and out on the course.
PACE: A Noon-hour tee time was met with slow play. Took 4.5+ hours for a 2some to finish the course. Would’ve been nice to see a marshal moving things along, or at least lying to us about trying to do so.
DIFFICULTY: Though unassuming, this course can bite you. The par 3s are a great example. Though appearing straightforward, I missed the green on #12 and #16 and found myself carding double-bogey each time. Hole #14 and #18 can both easily ruin your scorecard too.
Disappointed.
Course was fair for price. No water stations other than a drinking fountain on front nine. Snack area was Closed from 11:00-11:30. Really? Was never able to get water or food. No beverage cart either.
Poor Management
Showed up for a 12:56 tee time. Tee off on time.
At 4th Hole a member Horse Race tournament shows up. We thought they were behind us.
Still we played front nine on pace, arriving at next tees with little to no wait.
On 8th Fairway the course Manager rides through. I ask him if we will finish by sunset. He says “Yes, no problem”.
We get to 10th Tee …. 4 Groups waiting. Over 20 minute wait. No Course employees in sight.
Bottom line…. We did not Finish our round as back nine took 3 hours.
What kind of Course treats you like this? We paid $100 to be treated poorly. And by time we got cart turned in … only the cart staff was around.
If the Course cannot manage a “game” they should say so up front … refund our green fees … and we part friends.
Best value for the Money in the valley
From the pro shop, to the cart folks, the starters and the inside staff, I enjoy this course more than most. The layout is as challenging as you want to make from multi tee box locations. I have played 7 rounds since February 1 and have not had a bad lie in the fairways. The greens roll perfectly, what you see is what you get. Last year I took instruction from the assistant pro Rod Prieto for a technical glitch and he fixed the problem quickly with expert advice and charged me for only a half lesson. That says it all about my feelings for this course and it's staff. The homeowners should feel very good about who they have running the place.
Golf now
I’m disappointed that I posted a negative review of the course and it must have been censored. Deleting the golf now app.
With multiple tees, and combo options, the course can be tailored to each golfer. The layout was nice, with challenging holes and straightforward holes. The pace of play was very slow.
Nice people
Very friendly staff. Course a bit rough around the edges but all on all not a bad layout.
Nice course
The course was nice and good value. My only complaint is the course needs to have a place to buy water when the kiosk is closed.
Nice Course, Good Value
I would recommend the PD Resorter. Good fairways and greens.
First and last at PDCC
This was our first time at PDCC, and we do not plan to try it again. Pleasant experience when we arrived and we were greeted with bag pickup and cart set up, but the course is in poor condition with the rough was as hard as a sidewalk and very slow play. No marshall or assistance and when we returned 4.5 hours later, all we got was the afternoons always get backed up a lot. No food or beverage after 2pm at the turn…..
This is not a country club, but more st city courses are run better.
The course was in excellent condition except for the sand traps which were very firm with very little sand on the surface.
