Editor's Note: Course closed for businss in 2022.

This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.

Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.

There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Good value

$55 greens fee is good value for this aging course in Palm Springs. I’m very average golfer and my game isn’t suited to paying $100’s to play golf in the desert area.. I would play it again.

Enjoyed the experience and would recommend

I liked the course layout even from the back tees. Par 3s overall are long. Starter was very welcoming and staff working on the course were very respectful of players on the course while they did there work. Was a great start to my playing golf for my time in Palm Springs. I would recommend the course although there wasn’t much for food or drink on the 19th hole afterwards.

Mesquite was a nice layout with some challenging holes, including some very long par 3's. There are places where bridges are washed out, and some areas that are simply dirt and sand, but overall a good course. it did seem a bit pricey for the value.

Ok

The price was right for what you get. Average course with just a really strange setup. Shared cart paths with two or three holes right on top of each other. The pace of play was actually fine, different from other reviewers. They do not sell beer or liquor on the course, or in the clubhouse, which I have never seen before. Honestly, not a bad golf course, not a great one either.

Not too good

Arrived to play 1/2 hr ahead of time to warm up. Purchased a token for the range, $8, and headed to the range, only to find out it was closed, why, no idea. No reason given, so at the turn, requested a refund for the range. It took an act of God to get the range token refund, was told the manager would have to make the refund.
The Course was is sad shape, greens were fair at best, fairways were actually descent. But bridges over the wash were.not,
Pace of play was slower, but tolerable
No clubhouse amenities at all, what a shame, fantastic building
I guess the fair to play is reflected on by the price of green fees but it could be so much better
Overall, I’ll play it again if other area courses aren’t available,
Location of the course is excellent, very close to downtown PS.

Mesquite golf

Price is low but dont expect much. Course still can be trying and greens are fast. Layout is not good having to come so close to others when teeing off. Our cart died on #16 , made it to clubhouse and friendly staff gave us another. No restaurant available but we knew that going in.

This course needs a lot of work on the front 9- back nine is in fairly good condition- greens were average. Course should be closed for a season- changes should be made to bring conditions up. Club house not open- there was no cart service when we played.
