Poorly Maintained
This was my first time playing Bartley Cavanaugh. I'm playing in a tournament there in a few months and thought it might be good to test out the course first. I was warned that the layout is more of a "links" style so I was prepared for some uneven lies before I arrived.
What I wasn't prepared for was the very high green fees, terrible tee boxes, poorly maintained facilities, and crowded layout.
I play several times a month and usually don't have a problem paying between $20-$30 but almost $50 for this quality of a course was shocking. The tee boxes were very patchy and not even at all. No matter where we stood to hit our tee shot, the ball was going to be below or above our feet. The bathrooms in the center of the course were rusty and poorly labeled. The cart paths are more bumpy than driving on the grass.
Make sure to show up ready to play because there isn't a driving range to get warmed up on. The layout of the course was so closely intertwined that it felt like people were constantly hitting sharing a tee box, fairway or green.
The only positive from this course is that the greens were in great condition. They were extremely fast but rolled really well.
Greens are in great shape.
Course is in great shape. My only complaint is they need make the 17th hole longer. It is an island green and it is always under 100yds. 15 is too long for a par four. They could move those tees up an make room for 17 to be 130 to 140yds and I think more people would come out just to play that hole.
Slow
The course was in good shape for this time of year. But the slow play due to 2 groups of walking fivesomes all the while ball hunting also. Overall it took us 5.5 hrs to play our round. Hopefully they don’t book it like that anymore. But fun course.
frost delay
They had a frost delay. I could not wait. They refused to refund my money. GolfNow gave me some Coupons to make up for my $90 loss

Course was well kept! It is one of the better golf courses in Sacramento. I would recommend this course to all.
First for Fun
I booked this teatime early in the day as the sun was coming up. I got to go out and have the entire course to myself. I really enjoyed the course, especially hole 17 with the island green. For the most part it is a forgiving course however there are a couple holes where hitting the ball straight off the Teebox is a must. If you end up off of the fairway in a couple other spots you may run into some moguls in the rough, which are difficult to navigate. Overall I had a great experience and will most likely play again
Fast greens
I teed off at 7:15, played in less tha 3 hrs.no one in front of me. Greens are firm and fast. I fixed several ball marks on many greens.
Very good nice course for the $
Really enjoyed the course and cannot wait to get back and play it again.

Excellent course but weather was way to windy! I recommend this to all I meet!
Amazing course
This course was amazing to play. Drove out here from the Bay Area to meet up with a coworker who's from Sacramento and I was surprised of how well maintained the fairways and greens were for this course. Tee'd off 7am and finished at 1130am. The water hazards and the greens were the biggest challenges, but if you know where to miss, this course is quite forgiving as well. Playing from the gold tees was only 6200 yrds so I took advantage of that and tried to drive the greens. Plenty of birdies to have here...will def be back!
Short, but sneakily difficult
I have never played a Pete Dye course before until today. Since I read that the course is pretty short from the back tees (I usually play the tee in front), I took a risk and play from all the way back today. Boy, this course is a beast. Wind is a factor. So is the water looming for most of the holes. If your game is not sharp, you will pay for it. This course will make you grind for however long you get there.
Overall, even though it was challenging, I will be back when I am back in town.
Marshall patrol course to keep pace of golfers or allow to play through.
Great course well kept up but Marshall need to be on course on Monday thru Sunday to keep the pace on some golfers
Or to allow single to move ahead for there game is satisfiing other then that great course for the price.
Great course!
The course is in great shape and very forgiving.
The greens were a little bumpy when we played but I believe they had just recently been punched, so they should be much better now.
There is water all over the course which makes it challenging, but fun at the same time. If you ever wanted to try an island green this is the place for you.
Interesting day
We play here regularly and it is normally decent bang fo the buck.
They aerated the greens this week so their condition was garbage as expected.
What was not expected was the greens keeping crews lack of even minor etitquette.
There were 3 different incidences of crew watering greens by hand where they didn't so much as move a hose let alone move off the green while we were hitting in. After hitting on to the greens in one of the cases, the lady went so far as to drag her hose across the green to hose down my ball and the area around it as soon as it hit.
Weird, rude and overall pretty offensive.
nice
14.00$ with cart great deal , greens where pluged and sanded, harde to putt. So for 14.00 with cart had a great time on the cheap. Its a nice course any time . Steve
Consistency is the key
I keep coming here because I can count on green lush fairways and nice true greens. Although, there are a couple of traps that need cleaning out with fresh sand replacement. The afternoon play is always pretty fast and they do have a happy hour special to save you a couple of bucks. I wish they had a real driving range instead of a net but at least I get a few swings in to test my eye and tempo. This is my top course for value and play since you can score fairly easily. You don't have to hit 'em hard, just straight.
108degrees
too hot but course not crowded, delta breeze present which help cool down the day. thanks
This course attract rude golfer
This course is a challenger for beginners especially the terrain, slope and hills. The fair way is very long but beautiful, water ponds are everywhere. Some of the players were having difficulty finding the hole and because of the terrain and high slope creates frustration. A lot of Players were wondering around looking for their balls. Before going here I suggest you needs to drink a lot of sugars to make you laugh, otherwise you're going to ruin others people's game.
First Time at Bartley
My first time at this course was very enjoyable as I arrived early and was able to tee off much earlier than I would have expected. I found the practice green in great shape although the hitting cage could definitely use some sort of upgrade as the matts were very firm and the netting on the cage looked like it had been in use for a very long time. Nevertheless, I found the course to be interesting and in very good condition from tee to green. The staff was very courteous. I'll definitely be back!!
Thanks Blaine...
This is a "Links" style course so sooner or later you'll likely see someone playing a neighboring hole off your fairway. I disagree that fairways are long. You can mishit a shot but recover for a chance at par.
