Can' Say I'll Go Back Anytime Soon
Golf was good. Greens were excellent. Parked in the front row of the parking lot and one of my playing partners and I got our cars broken into and items stolen. Manager's response: "Well, this Is a public parking lot." as if this happens on regular basis. Front row! And nobody saw anything. There are a lot of other courses to play around here...it is unlikely I'l be going back to Bartley for a very long time.
Good Course for Great Value
I always enjoy the course. The layout is fun and the rolling fairways and greens are unique for an area where everything is generally flat. The course was in good shape, though the greens were a little bumpy having been recently aerated. As always, for a municipal course you can do a lot worse.
Tight fairways
Got a GREAT deal through GolfNow ($20/player with cart). Started on the back nine due to slow play on the first hole. Played through at a good speed until we were on the 6th hole (our 15th) when we and three parties behind us bunched up watching the yahoos in front teeing off from the gold tees when they should have been playing the white or black. Course is in great condition. REALLY FAST greens. The fairways are really tight and you see lots of people playing their ball off your fairway. Also, lots of blind stretches so yell "FORE" when in doubt. 17th hole is AWESOME!
Great condition considering the drought
Had one of my better rounds out here and course is in great condition considering the drought. Pretty easy course if you have been here before. Not too difficult if your a first timer. Greens rolled true on pretty much every hole. It was alittle warm about 95 but there was only a few golfers so pace was about 3 to 3 and a half hrs! If you can get a good deal I'd definitely play the course. Good course but not on the cheaper side, about 35 to 40 with cart is average.
Short But Not Easy
Fun course not long but still challenging.
Not many bunkers, bunkers need more sand.
Tee boxes are level and in good condition.
Small undulated greens, short game a must.
17 hole has an island green ( under 100 yards )
great value for the price, good pace of play.
love this course, watch out for the hills and along the edge of the fairways, and h20,,, there's a cart girl now which is convenient.
Save your money.
Treated like unwanted guests by the Marshall and several other golfers on the course. Not the service you'd expect to get when paying $97 for a twosome round of golf, the girl on the snack cart was pleasant as was the gentleman at the first tee. Next time I'll save my money and go to Bing Maloney!
Great but slow play
Always a great course and easy to get tee times course is always in great shape. Play has always been slow should employ a marshal to let golfers know when the other player shoots don't stand there for 5 minutes go to your ball and ready to shoot
What a great surprise
Overall this was a great experience. Just challenging enough to keep coming back to support your golf ego!!! Loved it!!!
My go-to Sacramento course
Bartley is my go-to whenever I want to get out and shoot a quick round, particularly in the evenings. I played Bart more than 20 times in 2014. It's a short course and pretty open, so errant tee shots are generally going to be alright. If you're a decently long hitter, you're going to want to play from the tips since the blues are less than 6000 yards and you'll be hitting a lot of wood/wedge. It's a fantastic course for a confidence boosting round or as a straight-forward go-to course whenever you want to just play some golf.
This isn't the course to come play if you and your buddies are looking for a challenging round of golf. The course is a muni and therefore is pretty straightforward, maybe even more straightforward than most. But it's a fantastic course for beginners, high handicappers, and anyone else who is looking for a well-maintained, straightforward course. The course is well-watered, so even in the drought the course stays in good condition. There's some water, an island green, a little OB left on the first five holes, but not many round-ruining challenges. There are trees, but they are not lining the fairways or anything like that. I mostly come out when I want to practice various things or get in a quick round after work. Like all munis, the course is full on the weekends and things are going to move slowly. By late afternoon, though, the course is pretty cleared out.
The staff is great. Some of the best around. For example, last week I went out for the $5 last hour special. They couldn't get the computer to work so just told me to go for it. Other times I have showed up an hour or two before my round hoping to get out early, and whenever possible they have accommodated me. I like Bartley because I can always just show up and play and they'll make it work.
Overall, great course for a casual golfer or anyone looking to get in a straightforward round of golf. Well-maintained, open course, and can be a great value if you time it right.
Good Shape
First time, I've played this course. I've played several courses throughout California during the drought and the course here seemed to be in better shape than most. I was told it's because they have their own well water, but whatever the reason the greens and overall course were in good shape.
The pace of play was was great, we had a 6:45 tee time and by the time we hit the turn the Marshall told us we were 16 minutes ahead of schedule.
Nice course
other than not having a driving range to do a proper warm up. But the course was excellent shape. Unlike my golf game. I will be back there to play again
Good Day at Bartley Cavanaugh
Course was in good condition. Pace of play was fairly slow which led to a really slow back 9. Never did see a marshall to speed up the play.
Greens are pretty small but run pretty true. Lots and Lots of water which is in play. Minus the slow play was a good day. Will be back again.
Good city course
This is a fun course in great condition.
I only wish the island green hole was a lityle longer people woud come just to play that hole if it was about 150 yds
Great neighborhood course!
Wonderful little hideaway course that I played yesterday. The charm of a course along the river, the atmosphere of the Clarksburg/Freport area was a pleasure. The mature trees & landscape keeps the wind at bay and the course was both challenging & inviting in that it makes you think about every shot as the course is narrow & sloping. The greens were recently punched but recovered nicely and the fairways were well manicured & free of weeds, even in this severe drought. Am going to make this my home course!!
Tight but fun
Maybe because it fits my short-but-straight-hitting game, I enjoyed Bartley better than the other two city-owned courses - the MacKenzie at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex and Bing Maloney - I played on back-to-back days in March. It was in the best condition of the courses managed by Morton Golf and was the most fun to play with more shot-making required. The 6,158-yard routing sits on just 96 acres between the Sacramento River and I-5. There are plenty of moments when you might hit one in an adjacent fairway or you might have to wait while someone plays out of yours. Extensive mounding and landscaped trees try to keep those "shooting gallery" moments to a minimum. A series of ponds frame the most interesting holes - the short par 4s at No. 6 and No. 13, the island green at No. 17 and the daunting par 4s that finish each nine. Just because it's short doesn't mean you'll have your way with Bartley Cavanaugh. Chances are it will be the other way around.
Bartley Cavanaugh
This course has always been tough for my type of golf. My brother in law and I decided to give it a go and had a very enjoyable experience. Greens were in excellent shape with the holes in tough pin placement. Course knowledge is a must for good scores. But I was happy with an 82. We will be back again. Thanks to the friendly staff.
Good Discount Rate - Terrible Course Management
The course allowed a tournament in front of us to play in four groups of EIGHT. Yes, 8 golfers on each the four holes ahead of us. When we called the pro shop to complain about the unacceptable pace of play they said it was their employees tournament and not another word. Really!?!?!? We solved the problem by promptly skipping past the four groups of eight. Of course the course was wide open for us after that. We eventually returned to play the four holes we originally skipped over. It was CRIMINAL for them to allow GROUPS OF EIGHT to play.
