The Senator Course at Shula's Golf Club
About
The 18-hole championship course at Don Shula's Golf Club is one of those courses that just seems to get better as you play your way around.
The first few holes are fairly open and not overly difficult. However, things start to get more difficult as you continue. By the time you make it to the 11th green, you'll know that you're in for a real dogfight. The fairways on the back get tight and there's water on just about every hole. All in all, it's a very enjoyable course from start to finish.
There are tennis courts, multiplex, fitness center etc. There’s something for everyone. The hotel's onsite amenities include upscale dining at the Original Shula's Steak House and casual dinning at the Bull Pen, which serves breakfast lunch and light dinner until 7pm.

Major Disappointment
Had a 9:16 am tee time and very excited to play here for the first time till I stepped onto the driving range. First you cannot drive a cart to the range as the parking lot is between the range and the pro-shop.
The staff was very friendly and will give you a ride if you ask.
The range was pitiful, the balls were all very dirty and the ground was not even recognizable as a driving range. There was no grass to hit from and it must have been 10 years since anyone bothered to fill in the divots- simply not what one expects when one pays 80:00 for golf.
I got over the range and came to starter about 9:10 am expecting to tee off on time. The starter was simply a nice gentleman with an impossible job. He informed me and many others that no one was allowed to tee off till the members who were already playing ended their rounds. By the time I got to the tee box at 9:10 there were as many as 16-20 golfers just hanging around waiting to tee off. The first tee was close to the 18th green, about 35-40 yards away and because members were still coming in and putting, no one could tee off for fear of disturbing the members. What a stupid policy. Many of the paying customers had things to do, in my case, I had a flight to catch; we had to endure and wait till the members finished and there were several groups. Eventually we teed off about 30 minutes later than the tee time; what a mess. The course should have advertised this as people book so one knows what one is in for. The poor Starter had many irate and unhappy customers complaining to him and all he could do was be professional which he was, explaining that his hands were tied.
Having teed off, the course itself was like a cow patch in many places. Fairways were overgrown and the Greens were as fairways should be at a decent course.
I am certainly not going to play here again until the stupid policy of not teeing off till members conclude their rounds is changed and the course gets a little attention. If you want to enjoy your round, do not spend your money here.
Miami Shores
Very friendly staff but unfortunately the course is in very bad shape.
bunkers are not raked, greens have many unfixed marks, tee boxes in bad shape. I know they are doing construction work and the course would look great in the future but for the time being it was not a pleasant round.
Terrible
This course was terrible, it was poorly maintained half the tee boxes were closed. It was no starter to direct us there was construction everywhere. It was just a disaster. Not to mention it was insanely expensive for what should’ve been a $35 round.
Getting worse by the day
This course was never amazing, but it used to be a good value and ever since new management has taken over, not only has it gotten much more expensive to play, but the quality of the course has gotten significantly worse… there are also now allowing people to play in five and six Sums the tee boxes are horrible most fairways have more mud then grass underneath the ball …And to top it off , we booked a teatime yesterday here as a last resort, because we could not play anywhere else, and the greens were punched…of course no one told us ,it was just a big ol F u when we got to the first green way to go new management if it wasn’t for grand palms you would be the worst course on the premier card
Recommend, I’d say a bit expensive not too much
I loved layout
Very pretty and calming course
Some areas were a little uncared for
8.5/10 overall
Can be a little cheaper for what it is tbh but don’t regret paying 107 for it
Overpriced for the course condition
Much of the course has drainage issues so it is often cart path only. They have no rakes, no ball cleaners and some of the tee boxes are rutty. There are some pretty views and lots of animal life. The greens are in good shape. It is not a $90 course though. The restaurant could use some more "grab & go" options as it is basically a hot dog if you want to keep moving to the 10th hole.
KEEP AWAY- Nowhere near a Resort Course as Advertised - Way Over Priced
This course is overpriced ($150 a round Yikes!) and it is in poor condition, some might use the word dog track. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
The layout of the course is very challenging as are the greens, but course needs a lot of work on tee boxes and fairways. It may have been a good course one time, but not today. Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention that someone forgot to put rakes out for the traps.
The driving range is an absolute mess with mats (of which there are few) that are worn right down to the rubber base.
They advertise the pace of play being under four hours, when in fact the round was over 4 hours and 35 minutes. The Ranger basically said you are lucky it is not more as it is on most Saturdays. One reason might be allowing 5'somes and not moving the golfers along.
Course design is very good
Nobody control the pace , wait to much in the tee it is no good and you lose the rhythm
Anything less than 4 stars is a lie or isn’t about golf
First impression was horrible cart guy made no communication of what cart to load up, finally load up cart to head to driving range and it was off cart guy left. Paid for round thru a window, came back and cart was gone clubs back where I loaded them, mask and sunglasses lost in the cart. (Cheap shades and a disposable mask) no biggie. You have the walk to the “range” which is fine but having NO balls for the range at 10:45a is inexcusable had to wait 20 mins for someone to throw down a pile of balls no counted amount was just simply scooped up and dumped next to me maybe got 25-30 for $10... and the range is under power lines (who thought of that?) so before my round I’m thinking this place is trash. Pleasantly surprised. Good to great tees & fairways. Greens were well kept but a little shaggy, made up for it with tough hole locations so you still had to keep below hole or they were fast. Nice layout. Beautiful day on the course. Please get your cart girl some better mixers tho. Had a double of makers mark poured for me to be told all you had was Diet Pepsi to mix... but all the negatives had nothing to do with actual golf. The conditions of the course were amazing. And for the price you can’t beat it. Courses in Naples charge 3x as much for similar quality
Dear Sogvae,
Thank you for your review of Shula's Golf Club. I am sorry to hear that you did enjoy your experience while at Shula's Golf Club. I can clearly see that by your pictures, the driving range was setup incorrectly. Balls should not be setup in the dirt when there is grass further to left available. We do not allow carts to drive to the range for safety reasons since they have to pass through the parking lot. Our staff can drive guests to the range safely.
I was unable to find your reservation on Saturday. We had a member shotgun event on Saturday that started at 8:00am. The last group to clear the first tee was 9:18am. They should have cleared the tee earlier but didn't. The first available tee time after the shotgun would have been 9:16am. This group would have been 10-12 minutes late in starting. Was your round of golf Saturday or Sunday. The last group of members cleared the first tee by 8:20am on Sunday.
Our greens have been in great shape all season long. I'm sorry that they didn't meet your expectations.
I'm glad that you found our staff helpful to you. Many of our repeat guests enjoy the course and staff. I am truly sorry that we were unable to create an enjoyable experience for you.
Sincerely,
Shula's Golf Club
