palmetto
played on 9/25/17...greens were in good shape..not great..could have been faster....layout was fun and challenging...tip for palmetto..numbers 9 and 10 are out in the middle of nowhere..so they cant run split tees..we were 3rd group out and played in just under 4 hrs in the morning...thats what made it worth it to us
Pace of Play
We waited on every shot. We were told that it would take 4:30 to play. We were only 5 minutes over that however they don't tell you that they must of estimated a lot of time for waiting when they calculated that estimate. We played another course the next day and some locals told us that this is always the problem with this course. The said it's a cash cow and they schedule tee times just 7 minutes apart. I asked the marshal if there was someone ahead of us that was really slow. He tried to convince us that we were playing on pace for 4:30 hours. Do not waste your time at this course. You will spend more time watching other golfers then playing yourself. This course could be played in less than 3:30 hours. Many holes had 2 groups waiting.
Fair value
Saturday so you almost expect it to be slow. And it was. It all comes down to how slowly just one group is and affects everyone after that group. 4 hours and forty minutes isn’t great but we were pushing to get done before dusk. The staff was excellent and very friendly. The starter and bag guys were really cordial and funny.
Fall maintenance getting ready for winter, which made the course wet. It still was a fun rounds
Slow play
2:45 to play front nine, got to 11th tee and there were already 2 groups waiting to hit, so we left. No rangers
Golf
The pace of play was extremely slow. Lost a ball in middle of fairway due to big mud patch.
A bit below par
I played this course several years ago and found it to be in pristine condition. Coming from Ohio, I wanted to play a well conditioned course which prompted me to book this again. The staff were great-but the course was not. I was especially disappointed with many of the greens; it looked like someone randomly dumped five gallon buckets of sand on many of the geeens. Tee boxes were also showing wear. This aspect is easier to forgive . The half green-half beaches we had to putt on—not so much.
GREENS NEED TO BE BETTER
First time playing down in Myrtle Beach (planning a golf trip in the fall with some friends) and this was one of the places we looked at. Thankfully there were two courses in case we wanted to play the other. Booked the first tee time since it was supposed to rain that afternoon (it didnt lol, SC weather for you). But overall, the experience from the driving range to the staff was great. But once we started playing, there were a few greens that were not up to par at all. Saw so many patches of grass on the green as we were putting. Had hoped all the greens were not like this and they weren't, but for $74 you would expect perfect conditions or at least a heads up about them before playing. Overall, it was a pretty decent time playing.
