Otter/Bear at River Oaks Golf Plantation
River Oaks Golf Plantation in Myrtle Beach is home to 27 holes of championship golf. The course sprawls across a former nature preserve that sits just outside the Myrtle Beach city limits. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that removed almost 4,600 trees, burying the remaining stumps underneath mounds of dirt and sand. This opened up the layout while adding an interesting up-and-down to the course that it never had before. The holes are divided into three nines that provide different 18-hole combinations. Each of the nines is named after a different animal that makes up the course's resident wildlife: Fox, Otter, and Bear. River Oaks' Otter/Bear combination is the longest course of the three available options. You'll find water coming into play on nearly every hole and there are several strategically placed bunkers to be found along the greens.

Fair but uninspiring
Very friendly staff, the cart lady especially was incredible. The course is very playable and always give you a place to bail out. The fairways and rough were in ok shape but the greens were very patchy and slow. Played fox and otter 9’s and Fox is all draw tee shots and Otter plays either straight or fades off the tees. For the price an excellent value considering the options locally and would like to play again when in slightly better shape.
River Oaks Golf Plantation
It’s a good course for medium to high handicaps. Lots of bunkers and water to deal with. There were not a lot of yardage markers.
Trying to beat the rain
The corse was in good condition played good front 9 the wind rain on back 9 made it to 15 sky opened up all in all had a great time play this loop it’s fun
Good Condition- Not a Lot of Trouble
Great course for beginner to intermediate players. Not a lot of trouble, if you hit ‘em straight. Had a great time.
I played the Bear and Fox courses. Other than some greens with portions under repair, I felt the course was in great shape! Bear has lots of water. Glad I played Bear before they turn it into houses.
Before the rain the pace was very slow, Marshall was around, but nothing was said. On the 8th it started raining, and everyone left, so the pace as expected was excellent.
Still early in the year so the greens were still coming in, the fairways were in fairly good shape. This course did not tolerate the rain well. The course has a great layout, with interesting holes. The greens had “make you think” putts with lots of undulation, we liked them, certainly not flat. The cart paths and areas off course we’re NOT in good shape, as well as some big bare spots on edges of fairway.
There is no restaurant, just a snack bar.
We paid $25 which was a fair price for the condition. For this price we would return.
My husband (8) handicap and myself (16), found the course very fair.
Layout good fairways and tees good pace of play good 3 courses Fox was best. Greens on bear slow and bumpy
Great February Golf
The weather was high 60's low 70's with little breeze. Perfect. We could take carts anywhere but they did ask us to steer clear of low, wet areas. Fairways and greens were the best we've played all week and were in really nice shape.
