Issues with course
Greens were in horrible shape with disease spots on every green. Sand traps compacted not racked. Pace of play was okay, waited every hole. Course to my understanding will be closed near end of month for complete renovation. With all this in mind course should have offered a discount on thie green fees.
A Don’t Miss Golf Course
Whispering Pines was a great, affordable golf course. Wide fairways, wonderful views, wild life, and staff. Challenging for any player depending o n tees selected. Descent pace of play. Greens vs were very quick and true but many worn areas but playable. If we return to Myrtle Beach, a must replay. It’s directly across from the airport hut never an issue.
Could be a great course.
Course conditions weren’t great. Great layout but no one takes care of the course. $30 course at most.
Needs maintenance
Pretty park-like golf course with a lot of trees. Greens were in poor condition, fairways- were rough in spots and weedy on the edges. Needs an overhaul and they had signs saying the course would be closing from May 24- Sept to do repairs.
Bang for the buck ‼️
Nice lay out. Coarse is in good shape. Very little amenities. I was told they would be closing for upgrades at the end of the month. I played at a discount from my GolfNow app
Fun course!
Fun and challenging course. Fairways were in awesome condition. Greens need some work. Will go back!
Serene atmosphere
Played a morning round at Whispering Pines and it’s was an overall good experience. They are about to do a course overhaul so I can understand why the greens are in rough shape. The atmosphere of being surrounded by pine trees was a highlight. Course is fairly tight when you compare to a resort course like Grande Dunes. The greens are tiny with significant slopes (almost silly at times) which makes it challenging. Sad to hear they are going to be taking out a lot of trees in the remodel and there were signs that they have already started trees removal. I think with the regressing of the course will make a difference. If they slightly enlarged the greens by 30% and made them more level it would be incredible. Overall worth a play if you haven’t played there before so you can play again in September to experience the before and after.
Good value
The course is playable for high handicap players. The fairways were in good shape, but the greens looked water deprived. The staff was pleasant and friendly. The only thing I didn’t care for was the rule of not taking your cart beyond their marker, even with a 90 degree rule, established 100 yards away from the green. This I believe slowed the pace of play to a fault. Most if not all golfers know enough to respect a distance from the green that’s closer than 100 yards.
Nice course on a windy day
Our foursome played on April 15. Unfortunately the wind was a significant factor on this day. Although we loved the course layout, there is some work to be done to improve the course rating. The bunkers were unplayable and the tee blocks had varying conditions.
Course needs much attentioin
Course needs irrigation and much maintenance. Tee boxes uneven and some bare. Fairways are thinning and has many areas that are void of grass. Bunkers are more like brown dust instead of sand. After a two hour rain, most bunkers were full of water and unplayable. Greens are 95% poa annua. Staff was very friendly and cooperative. I would not recommend this course until it undergoes some renovation and maintenance.
