Mostly kinder, gentler pre-Recession Pete Dye
Southern Hills is very representative of Pete Dye's work. True to its name, elevation changes influence play on many holes, and judging distances to account for rises or falls of 30 feet or more makes the course a bit unFlorida-like. Pete Dye's trademarks are all here, but they're a little toned down, both because of the hills and the fact that the course is long - more than 7,500 yards from the tips. A very long drive between 9 green and 10 tee interrupts an otherwise pleasant routing.
The course is in wonderful shape, as are the excellent practice facilities (including the big short course/short-game area that necessitates the big 9/10 journey). It's usually a $100 course or so, and delivers decent value.
Premium Price Poor Condition
No mention when we booked or came to play that the greens had been recently plugged and sanded. The fairways were also in bad shape due to a combination of being plugged and thick / too tall grass. At best we got a little roll. Many tee shots plugged, all ended up with some mud on the ball. First time I've ever played where I wasn't made aware of the poor condition, but especially the plugged greens.
Beautiful Course
The course was very very wet... Cart paths only... Greens where slow due to airfication about a month ago.... Tee time at 11 am got off early but was shortened do to rain... But was given a rain check to come play again since I drove 1:45 minutes to play.... Will definitely go again!!!!

WOW
Had never played this course. Just driving in you know you are going to play something special. Having said that, the golf course is firm, fast and very demanding. You really need to know where to hit it as the fairways and greens are contoured.
If you like a challenge and want to play a Pete Dye course this is really good.
Unbelievable
Great layout. I have to say this course beats world woods and the greens were perfect, lightning fast never played on greens as fast as this. I give this course an A++++++
Great layout. Tough but fair.
Played on Friday at 2pm. Very scenic. Tee boxes were good to excellent. Fairways and rough very good to excellent. Greens were excellent. Hard and fast. Played shorter than yardage stated due to tight fairways. Partnered up with another single for a very enjoyable round. I would definitely recommend and I will be back.
Great course
I highly recommend playing this course. It is a beautiful course in great shape with a friendly staff. I will definitely play again.
Stunning
A top-notch experience in every way. The course is beautifully maintained and the layout is diverse and scenic - just visually stunning. We were paired with members and they were so very friendly and fun. All of the staff is very friendly and professional. The clubhouse and facilities are very nice. They added another set of forward tees that were very enjoyable for the ladies in the group - enabling scoring in the low 80's. The Pete Dye greens were perfect and very challenging. We can't wait to play again.
Best course
Love this course. Although it's super challenging for my novice knowledge I love everything about it. The course is gorgeous and the staff is second to none. We rent an Airbnb condo while here and waking up to see the course out the back window makes me want to never leave. The greens are impeccable as is the clubhouse. They really outdid themselves on this one. You won't be disappointed.
Another great time on the links
The course is everything you read about. Play the proper tees and you will have a challenging but rewarding experience. Pete Dye masterpiece!
Best Semi-Private golf in Brooksville
Great Pete Dye design with plenty of visual deception and rolling terrain. You won’t find many flat lies but the design flows well and the course was in good shape considering this is a transition time of year for this area. There is space off the fairways and lots of mounds that will help keep you in play. Bring your A+ short game as you will need it and be sure to hit the putting green to get a good gauge of the speed. Range balls come with the greens fee and everyone from the starter to the lot attendants are nice people. Bottom line if you haven’t played it I recommend taking the drive to enjoy this great golf experience.
Southern Hills Plantation Golf Club
This course is one of the best in the area which is evidenced by the number of PGA/Web.com qualifiers that have been there. It is always in excellent shape and the staff is very friendly. Well worth the drive from Tampa.
Amazed
Met a college buddy coming down from Georgia. From the moment entered to every single hole, couldn't have asked for better. Greens rolled very nicely even in this summer heat (and sunk a couple long ones too). They are true. The beauty of this course is while it is challenging layout, you get what you see so it is overall fair. Absolutely in love with this course and consider it at the best level of all courses I've played (comparable to copperhead, etc.) after living in Tampa Bay area for 2 years. Staff is exceptional
One best I've ever played.
Got a $49 hot deal due to greens aeration about 5 days before. All I can say is WOW! What a nice golf course. Pete Dye design and you won't be disappointed. Attention to deal abounds everywhere. I sadly played behind some hackers who would have been better off using their green fees for lessons.
If you love golf you'll love this course. I'd play it more often but it is $$$$, so this will remain on my special occasion list only. If was just a bit more moderately priced I'd play there regularly.
very wet due to the rain
The rough is brutal..
The greens are punched for aireation very very bumpy..

A players course
This is a fabulous course. Challenging and beautiful, I would recommend this course to anyone that appreciates a well designed golf course and isn't afraid of a challenge.
Wow!
Still the best course that everyone can play in the Tampa area. Greens are true, fairways wide, cut close and never a bad lie.
